November 26, 200718 yr I Pk, and I skill.. As a competitive person, i enjoy pking much more as it actually requires skill to beat the other person. I personally do not enjoy clicking on a tree/rock for hours on end, and when i set goals for myself that include skills, i find it becomes a chore. A chore is definetly not something i want when playing a game. Granted, it is very hard to stick with a goal for many skills, as they can be long and boring. But i guess some people enjoy skilling, so whatever floats your boat :) I engineered this thread with precise variables that I know would cause lul-worthy flames.
November 27, 200718 yr this is more a rant. It's more of a question. We the PKers, and Stakers are waiting for more counter-arguments from the people who post that the updates which screw over us are good. Seems sort of like saying that.. if there was a magical coin spawn in the middle of nowhere that was like 5million GP (oh and it took skill to get it because there are some other people that know about it and want it, and there are some monsters or something). Then Jagex removed that coin spawn, would you honestly feel bad for the people that couldn't make a living anymore by getting this coin spawn? Now, thinking about it, staking has been too easy. You can get 99 range or magic in UNDER a week easily (provided you have the funds). After that week, you are pretty much guaranteed your investment plus a TON more in return. There is no other skill or method related that even comes CLOSE to that amount of money (especially from the corresponding amount of work AND time). The skills that are even comparable, mainly being Runecrafting, take both initial funds and a lot of time (or no funds and a ton of time). The returns on these other methods are no where near those of staking. Surely, though, I don't think a 3k gp limit is fair. That is not fair at all. Anyone who says that is fair has no idea what staking is and is an idiot. I could see, perhaps, a 300-500k limit, per hour, a fair limit. As that is the average return per hour for a comparable amount of time spent training. (you see, that way, you get to be equal with other skills and yet still be doing what you like) Most (practically ALL) skillers and non-stakers have agreed about the 3k limit. Here is one/a good rationale from the people who think the practical removal of staking was beneficial: According to Jagex, now RWT will be severely hampered. That means that bots and other macros should be (mostly) eliminated. That would lead to skilling to be easier and more profitable. It would be easier to fish, woodchop, and even kill dragons. Not only that, but the products from these skills would increase in value. So, you have more value from items that are easier to obtain. Now, obviously, people will like that. It works in the person's favor. It is good. Eliminating the staking doesn't affect these skills or people at all, why should they care? In fact, the prices of rares and combat items should decrease - that means it would be even easier to level and skill and reach goals! Note, too, that majority of the fan base is skill-related (as in not staker, pker). Edit and also note: I am a skiller on my M6c Magnum account and a staker/PKer on my other account :) [/bads]

I can't say that is a very good analogy at all, but I think I got what you were saying after I read the next sentence. Gaining money with skilling is easy too, but with staking there is a huge potential for how much you can make. 99 in a week? Has there been some sort of ridiculous update that makes gaining xp ridiculously fast or something, because that seems absurd to me.. Even if you do get 99 range/mage there are tens of thousands out there who also have 99, so it's not like you have any better of a shot to win a ton with 99 range/mage, because chances are you are going to be staking others with similar stats. Anyways if staking was as easy and "guaranteed your investment plus a TON more in return," I'm pretty sure everybody would be staking, and everyone would be millionaires. One problem. Staking does anything BUT guarantee a return, it's all about risk/reward. Sure you can make a ton of money, but there is also a huge risk of losing all of your wealth. Skilling does guarantee a steady source of income without any risk (for the most part). Btw, thank you all for the posts, I'm glad there are some people out there who agree with me. What started this whole post was people saying they were happy merchanting/staking were ruined simply because they had a hatred for those groups of people for no reason. November 27, 200718 yr Its funny how when the talk about the staking change and the GE came up, majority of these forums were saying "lol good", "best update ever", "i hate stakers, good riddance". Yet the posts here do not reflect that? I'm glad the aurthor had the balls to post something like this, because this is what I have felt for quite a while. Along with that, these forums have degraded into a group of closed net of people who sit around and look down upon nearly all aspects of pking, staking, and merchanting. Just take a look at the graveyard forum, there is nearly nothing going on there except for the occasional rcer specing out a rc-pker and getting a good drop (aside from a few choice galleries, including my own). People always say pures are so arrogant, and stakers are so cocky, yet EVERY SINGLE ARGUMENT in game I HAVE seen between a skiller and a pker, the skiller in someway said he was better than someone else based on how they choose to play a game. I'll wait for peoples reactions to go deeper into this rant  Just can't agree better. Any thread of rcers vs rc pking, rcers win with the ton of excuses how rc pking is so wrong, the no honour bs is used by rcers themselves (teleing). Apparently some people are delighted that merchanting will be "ruined" when the GE come out, in the debate club :| *equips flame sheild* Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.
November 28, 200718 yr I haven't seen many (of what I would call) skillers jump for joy over the duel arena changes. Then again I don't pay attention to whether these idiots who are happy are skillers; I just brand them as idiots and skip their posts. :P The problem isn't elitist skillers; it's snobs in general. Anyone who wants something just because it spites another group is a problem. It sort of puts you a step lower on the psychological development ladder in that you can't see something from another's perspective. Staking didn't affect me as it was so I had no problem with it. People arguing which is better of the three (skilling, staking, and pking) is stupid and pointless. It's like arguing ice cream flavors. If you're not bothering me I don't care what you do, which leads into RC pking since someone brought it up. You have the right to attack me when I rc. Likewise I reserve the right to call you an idiot for wasting my time and yours since I'll just tele and switch worlds. Moral of the post: 1) think about things from the other's perspective (re: being a snob) and 2) expect the same courtesy back that you extend (re: attacking me). 571st to 99 Fm Nov. 4 '06 - 315th to 99 Crafting Mar. 3 '07 - 3410th to 99 Fishing Sept. 18 '0726378th to 99 Cooking Oct. 16 '07 -.- 99 Thieving Dec. 29 '07 - 1343rd to 99 Farming June 5 '081807th to 99 Agility Nov. 8 '08 - 3094th to 99 Smithing Feb. 14 '092012 total - 91 combat
November 28, 200718 yr You rant a lot. Obviously, not all 'skillers' hate stakers and pkers. Some of them do, and I'm pretty sure most of those people don't come from TIF..
November 28, 200718 yr Well, I really have nothing against merchants and stakers, but I tried to merchant and lost 24m in a day and tried to stake and went through 500k or so before realizing I'm not pure and will not beat them. So, why not skill? The income is very dependable compared to the previous two, and training your skills results in a higher total, more money, and more skill possibilities down the line.
November 28, 200718 yr You click on monsters to train, click on food while you are eating, click on the pile after they are dead... where's the skill in that? I'm yet to meet a muted skiller, all of them have been pkers... maybe they are the rude and arrogant ones? Ive never been in a fight with someone (mostly me running while rcing/clues/mining rune) without some sort of insult throw my way. And for what? Ive never been sworn out by someone while fishing/cooking/smithing/mining etc... Personally I think it requires a certain mindset to become an accomplished pker (which I'm not by any means, terrible myself). It requires the mindset of a pre-pubescent kid who gets (or got) picked on alot at school so he comes on Runescape to vent and show everyone what a badass he really is  If you don't like skillers, don't talk to us, you'll probably end up muted like so many others. I also realize that I've made a lot of assumptions in my little rant. If I offended anyone I'm sorry, even if you are one of the people I'm describing (and most of you probably are).
November 28, 200718 yr I think most high lvls are not condescending at all. On the contrary, they are the nicest people in game. It's usually the rude ones who can't make any good friends and so they leave game. So only the nice players are able to take a skill very high, because they stay in game. Now, if you are calling high lvls extremely condescending only because they dont give stuff away when other players beg them, or when they dont talk back when spoken to, then you being extremely unfair. Nobody likes giving stuff away for free. But since high lvls are the constant target of beggers they always tend to look like the mean ones.
November 28, 200718 yr A well made point and I agree. Yet it is just a game and people play it to be good at the actual game the way they like most. Whether it requires skill IRL for that or just patience, it's not really very relevant to Runescape. Either way, it's choices people make in the way they want to have fun, so yes, skillers certainly shouldn't look down at stakers, pkers or merchanters since we all got our pros and cons. November 29, 200718 yr It takes alot more effort to be a successful skiller than a staker. I dont have a problem with stakers as I respect the way they enjoy the game. Merchanters though I dislike because they constantly spam me with offers rediculousy lower than the price I state. I have to repeat myself again and again merchant after merchant before I get a legit trade. Another problem that I wont blame on all stakers but many DO cheat. I mean alot of the famous stakers have cheated and given a bad impression to others to do the same. I feel sorry for stakers though.. I would feel horrible if they suddenly took away the main enjoyment I got from the game. =/ I had to trade stakers very often because I used to sell them what they needed. The ones who bought alot or often were generally polite (Meaning older? More mature.) while the ones who bought in low amounts were generally rude to me. (Meaning younger? Less mature.) This is were they get their stereotype from. People think they are rude arrogent sods and most of them are. I got this from my own experience of trading with many many pures. So everyone hates stakers because they are rude pures. Skillers dislike merchanters because they rip them off aswell as making things easier to buy. People think skillers are snobs because they are jealous of our skills. \ Something to add. I have always wanted more updates for skills to improve the game but since stakers have been removed from the game now I pray they leave skills alone! I rather they left them alone rather than remove them from the game too. I am so worried the direction jagex are going, feel so bad for the stakers.. I am in real debate on if I should bother? If they can remove such an old past time like staking then well.. what else might they ruin... I remember few months ago I was getting cold feet with this game untill they started making amazing improvements! Now well.. :ohnoes: I got people in rl begging me for my account if I decide to quit. =/ =/ =/ Hopefully summoning will win back some confidence. I feel sorry for the stakers but I am glad they existed as it was a real reality hit how far jagex will go to remove rwt! ..Just mental. :-k Its gives us time to prepare for the reality this game will be destroyed at the cost of stopping cheaters. *Waits patiently for them to remove pking when summoning is release with excuses about technical issues. =/* Stakers convert to pkers and pkers convert to.. ..skillers? :XD: Oh gawd. Anyone want to pay my membership because its starting to feel awfully expensive and crowded around here!
