Pro Wrestling-WWE V TNA, What defines fake and more

Featured Replies

Pro Wrestling

Hey, I'm Hbk_Hossack, which by my name implies im a wrestling fan. In this thread you will see about WWE V TNA, who will come out on top in the war and what defines fake...

Pro Wrestling:What defines fake?

First off, Pro Wrestling is entertainment. People say wrestling is [cabbage] because it is all fake and scripted, but it is more entertainment than sport. You watch movies, TV etc. that is all entertainment and scripted.

Now to the "fake" part. Yes, wrestling is scripted, the matches are planned. But the bumps are real. Falling off a ladder, how can you "fake" that? Getting dropped from 6 feet in the air, how can you fake that as well? It's simple. You can't. It is real, it hurts. wtahc a wrestling match frame by frame, they do get hit, they do get slammed. But it is very obviou sometimes that they are not hitting their opponents (Five Knuckle Shuffle anyone?) but that is usually by the no-talent losers.

Now let me ask you this question wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans:Would you like wrestling if it wasn't scripted? Imagine the matches we would see. The Great Khali would hold every title, because noone could beat him. People would just run away and be counted out in every match. we would never see some of the amazing moves of AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy and Chris Jericho, among many others. Put simply, they wouldn't be entertaining. And that's what Pro Wrestling is. Sports-ENTERTAINMENT.

WWE VS TNA

IMO, the WWE is only getting better now it has competition again. But TNA isn't the calibre of the WWE. WWE has a lot of history and a lot of well established superstars, like Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Triple H, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio etc. Not to take anything away from TNA, they have Sting, Kurt Angle, Booker T, Christian Cage, etc. But what do many of TNA's superstars have in common? They are former WWE superstars. Of the current TNA roster I can name (names in brackes are who they wrestled as in WWE)-Black Reign (Gold Dust, Dustin Rhodes), Booker T ( Booker T, King Booker), Christian Cage (Christian), Christy Hemme (Christy Hemme), Gail Kim (Gail Kim), Jackie Moore (Jacqueiline), Jeff Jarrett (Jeff Jarrett), Kevin Nas (Kevin Nash, Diesel), Kip James (Billy Gunn), Kurt Angle (Kurt Angle), Matt Morgan (Matt Morgan), Raven (Raven), Rhino (Rhyno), Rick Steiner (Rick Steiner), Scott Steiner (Scott Steiner), Sharmell (Sharmell), Sting (Sting), Team 3D, Brother Ray and Brother Devon (The Dudley boyz, Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von dudley) and Tomko (Tyson Tomko). That's almost half of the TNA Roster. And Abyss is a flat-out Mankind rip-off, but then again Umaga is a Samoa Joe rip-off.

Now to the talent on the rosters. This is pretty closely matched, but the most talented on both companies has to be AJ Styles. Besides him, Christian Cage, Booker T, samoa Joe and LAX, not many other TNA superstars have the same talents as the WWE's superstars, Chris Jeirhco, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, jeff Hardy etc. But what's the difference? TNA are putting on good mathces. WWE is not, they are runnin stupid storylines and pushin all the wrong guys, reminds me of WCW. But i still think WWE will come out on top...eventually.

38% of Tip.Iters put stupid made up statistics in their sigs. If you are one of the 62% that don't, put this in your sig.

:shame:

It was wwe vs wcw and they are not competing with TNA. TNA is not pro wrestling these days its amateur and its in one place week after week where superstars go when they want to settle down. TNA can NOT compare with wwe.

It's scripted so you can say it's fake in that sense, but Mankind falling off the cell? Jeff Hardy's jump from the 30 foot ladder on to Edge? The Elimination Chamber match? You can't fake that. Most of the people who dismiss it because it's scripted are often ignorant and fail to even recognise that its purpose is to be entertaining, not to impress people or make money by picking the team/person who wins.

TNA has a habit of not fostering its own unique, younger talent, instead picking WWE has-beens (or wrestlers nearing their end). They also don't seem to have as many characters or as much storyline development. Admittedly, I haven't seen much - I've only seen Bound for Glory 2007 + clippings of matches and whatnot. The wrestling itself is good - it still is entertaining. But, it's also a spotfest, and sometimes that's hard to appreciate. Furthermore is the booking, and the way Kurt Angle seems to be Mr. TNA. They introduce Booker, hype him up as a mega-star, and then have him lose? They give Sting the title, then have him lose it in TNA two (broadcasted) weeks later? I don't get it. Then again, I suppose the same thing can be said about WWE and John Cena, but there's still more diversity and more titles in WWE than TNA.

WWE hasn't yet lost its touch or anything - it's still entertaining. The days of the Attitude Era are obviously over, and chances are, wrestling won't be as successful as that anytime soon because of changes in social attitudes. I'm not pleased with WWE's current pushing of faces exponentially more than heels - I know they're crowd favourites, but I'm sick of Boretista and his dominance over everyone, as well as Jeff Hardy's constant victories, meanwhile Kennedy frequently loses, and Orton and Edge are often made to look like [bleep]es. I can understand face favourtism to some extent, maybe 60/40, and I know only a small percentage are smarks and like a lot of heels, but it seems now to be a little too much. I really hope a heel wins the Royal Rumble (Kennedy or MVP) and that Kennedy finally gets some success with this HBK feud he's got going.

Another thing that irritates me is their under-utilisation of talent. Why did they wait so long to start using Cryme Tyme in the tag title picture? Let's not forget they won TWO title shots they were never given - one at this year's New Year's Revolution and another earlier, at Cyber Sunday or something. Yet it wasn't until Cade and Murdoch got the titles that they moved from being Heat staples - and they were fired shortly after anyway. Kane is still being constantly jobbed and gets very little recognition nowadays, and they only just remembered recently that they've had Shelton Benjamin on their roster. Londrick, however, despite being huge crowd favourites and immensely talented, remain on Heat. It's good to see some of these things being corrected in the last few months, but I think there's still room for improvement.

Right now I think TNA is doing one thing right - Amazing Kong. Other than that it seems like they're just so bad at the whole putting on a wrestling show thing. Last week's iMPACT! main event was Samoa Joe vs. Chris Sabin vs. A.J. Styles. This looks great on paper and it was probably the first time in a long time that their show was main evented entirely by 'homegrown talent'. However, they managed to ruin what would have been one of the best main events of the year by throwing in a commercial break every time they were building momentum. There really is no excuse for that kind of sloppy editing on a taped show. When SmackDown! puts on a main event of the same caliber and length, you'll never see more than one commercial break.

They really need to look at themselves hard if they can't draw more than 25000 PPV buys with Kurt friggin' Angle in the main event. Right now they're just trying to do everything like WWE in stead of highlighting what makes them special. In 2005 they probably had their absolute high point when Samoa Joe defended the X-Division championship against A.J. Styles and Christopher Daniels in the main event. By defending that title last in stead of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship they really elevated the status of the X-Division and showed that their product was something very different.

They have guys like the Motor City Machine Guns and LAX in the tag division, yet the headliners of that division seem to be Team 3D and The Steiners. The X-Division belt is little more than a prop in a pointless feud that has been done a million times before. Jay Lethal managed to pin Angle clean for the X-Division belt, yet any momentum he gained from that was quickly lost when he became the whipping boy for Team 3D. They could easily have guys like Chris Harris, Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles main eventing for the TNA title, but in stead they keep insisting on Sting, Kurt Angle, Christian, and now probably Booker T. Booker T vs. Christian was little more than a SmackDown! midcard match about two years ago, so they can't really expect the fans to accept this as a credible main event matchup.

Also, I advise all wrestling fans to click the Ring of Honor link in the bottom of my sig if you're interested in seeing the best of what American professional wrestling currently has to offer. Ring of Honor is an independent promotion that works with a combination of the very top of the American indy scene ("American Dragon" Bryan Danielson, Delerious, Chris Hero), European talent (Nigel McGuinness, Doug Williams, PAC, Jody Fleisch) and a healthy talent exchange with Japanese companies like Pro Wrestling NOAH and Dragon Gate (Naomichi Marafuji, KENTA, and most recently Mitsahuru Misawa from NOAH, Blood Generation, DO Fixer, Naruki Doi, SHINGO from Dragon Gate) to create an incredible product. Talented wrestlers, a booking team that knows what they're doing and a company that takes its fans serious. Up to 2006 their show also had a lot of TNA talent on it (Samoa Joe, Homicide, A.J. Styles, etc.), but TNA put an end to that when ROH got their first PPV deal. Their third PPV debuted yesterday.

Review

I always thought that WWE was the top-of-the-chain wrestling company and that TNA was for all the WWE wrestlers who got released for drug use (Jeff Jarrett is awesome though).

Meh, it's probably scripted to some degree, but it's still fun to watch. Rey Mysterio FTW! 8-)

That's essentially what TNA comes across as sometimes. TNA is more about technicality and spots - their wrestlers generally take a lot more risks than the WWE ones. WWE, on the other hand, is like a whole entertainment product - promos, storylines, characters and the whole lot.

Ever notice the bounce of the floor? It probably hurts slightly more then a trampoline does.

Sure, the ability to do the stunts that they do is quite amazing, but the poor acting and script kills it.

it's probably scripted

Probably?

And poor acting/script? I can't agree with you there. Check out Mr. Kennedy, MVP, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Santino Marella, Randy Orton and John Morrison. Then try telling me that it's ruined by bad scripting and acting.

It seems a lot of people agree and i really like the point a few posters brought up, TNA isn't pushing their own talent, it's all the former WWe stars.
