December 13, 200718 yr I'll give my top three in no particular order and then choose my favorite: [hide=Guitar Hero III]I love this game. It's like a drug for me. I've played it so much and yet I still have so much room to improve. There's really not a whole lot to say about it. The songs are great. I strongly prefer this game to Rock Band. Cons: None?[/hide] [hide=BioShock]An amazing game. The second I played the demo, I was interested. Walking into the room after the plane crash only to have the door slam shut and be left in complete darkness with this eerie music playing. It gave me chills. The enemies were so much fun to fight. The splicer never got old and the Big Daddies were one of my favorite enemies from any video game. My only con was that if you died, you could respawn, go do some damage, die, and respawn. Lather, rinse, repeat.[/hide] [hide=Halo 3]I know a lot of people on this forum hate the game and the series. I'm sure some say they hate the game just to be unique. I'm just going to come out and say that I love it. I never get tired of playing the multiplayer and my friends and I have never laughed harder than when we're screwing around in Forge. Also, no one can deny the ultimate success of the game. Someone earlier said that it shouldn't be on the list just because of the success of the first game. You're right, it shouldn't. It rightfully earned a spot on the top games list. Cons: Single player was kind of monotonous sometimes. Only levels I really liked were the Flood levels because they were so damn challenging. The last level was rather anticlimactic. A warthog ride is cool but there was no time limit. I could just stroll through if I wanted.[/hide] [hide=The Rest]There are quite a few games that could probably run for the top spot that I haven't played. CoD:4 and Phantom Hourglass are right on the top of my "Must Have" list. I'm also thinking about picking up an Orange Box.[/hide] Anyway, my pick for game of the year goes to: [hide=GOTY]BioShock with Halo 3 and Guitar Hero III coming close behind.[/hide]
December 13, 200718 yr Mine would be The Orange Box. Since Ive only played Half Life on my pc, Half Life 2 was on my xbox. And when I got Episode 1 on pc, it couldnt work due to lack of something. ($50 wasted). So the orange box saved me. And everytime you kill a strider, it feels so cool the way you do it. I didnt quite like the ending cutscene though, I wanted Eli to survive. Other than that portal rocks too. Halo 3 would be on my list but due to the fact that i dont have xbox live, its not. The Flood lvl IMO was a nightmare. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down!
December 13, 200718 yr I can't choose between last 3 Super Mario Galaxy: New Mario game and its just excellent. Crysis: Extreme Graphics make this an insane game and at least worth the top spot for showing what can be done with grahpics. Orange Box: 5 awesome games, combinging witty humour in portal, awesome quips and gameplay in team fortress 2 and the overall greatness of Half-life 2 and its two mini-sequals.
December 13, 200718 yr Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Timewise, it will never beat OoT in my opinion, but its by far the best game all year. And as for Mario Galaxy, too light-hearted for me. And i would like to make my opinion clear, HALO SUCKS! (Thats my opinion. Yours is probably different. I'm not going to run around saying that, because those people are lame. Unless, i cleverly disguise it by going around saying "Healo sucks d00d I tihnk dat dey should nevr maek mroe.) \ Quit Runescape 30th May 2006.Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)

December 13, 200718 yr Twilight Princess was released in 2006. :P I do hope that either one of the following wins: Super Mario Galaxy Uncharted Drake's Fortune (It has a low chance but oh well, a man can dream)
December 14, 200718 yr Halo 3 I have no idea how the hell Bioshock won game of the year. It doesn't deserve it, no game EVER without multi player should win GOY. I have Call of Duty, I love the campaign but wait, no Co-op? What the hell? How can you have a 1st person shotter with no Co-op? And in Halo 3 you can bring up to three guest with you to play on live. But you can't even bring a buddy to play in COD 4. Bioshock will be fun for weeks. COD4 will be fun for months. Halo 3 will be fun for years. December 14, 200718 yr Halo 3 I have no idea how the hell Bioshock won game of the year. It doesn't deserve it, no game EVER without multi player should win GOY. Haha. You're implying that games without multiplayer get boring after a few weeks? The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out years and years ago but is it boring yet? No. There are tons of games with out multiplayer that are amazing. Sure, Halo 3 is good but BioShock clearly won. It was a game that has never been done before. It was clearly worthy of GotY.

It was actually done twice before. It's extremely similar to the System Shock series. Only difference is that a lot of the features have been dumb down.
December 14, 200718 yr Kosz, I'm sure bioshock one simply because it was easily one of the most captivating games of the year. Artistically speaking it was great, and it had a good story as well. I'm sorry but any game which is just a rehash of a formula we've all seen and done ten years ago should not be game of the year. I'm not going to argue if halo 3 is a good game or not, I won't. However it in no way should win a Game of the Year award when we have so many great, original, games out. Anyways I still enjoyed the orange box the best out of the year but Bioshock is a deserving game for the title. To add a bit: Online play is great, it really is. What I don't get however is that people just can't enjoy a great single player experience anymore. I miss the days of being able to just enjoy a good 20-30 hour campaign in a game. At any rate you would be happy to know that Time magazine awarded Halo 3 with the game of the year. Of course TIME is, at best, a laughable gaming source so its no wonder why the picked halo 3. It was actually done twice before. It's extremely similar to the System Shock series. Only difference is that a lot of the features have been dumb down. You're correct, many of the features were a throwback to the System Shock series. However that does not undermine the actual art behind the game.
December 14, 200718 yr You can't live a game on campaign I guess this is where the root of our difference in opinions is. I, unlike you, value campaign above all and I can live on campaign. The best games of all time never had multiplayer so why should great games today be judged harshly because of a lack of multiplayer? It was actually done twice before. It's extremely similar to the System Shock series. Only difference is that a lot of the features have been dumb down. You're right, as Nadril said, a lot of the features were similar to that of System Shock albeit better, but what games today aren't similar in some way to previous games? I can only think of a few. Although I love the Halo series, it is just another man vs. alien with lots of guns. Though it is a very good one, Call of Duty 4 is just another war game. BioShock, though, is new. The whole plot and environment is new. Features are similar to some old games but just about everything else is new.

I do think that it deserved to win GOTY, as COD4 and Halo 3 are extremely smiliar to the other games in the series. However, I stick to my point of it being similar to SS2 in gameplay.
