Is your kingdom bordering bankruptcy?

Featured Replies

For a long time, the Manage Thy Kingdom minigame (assigning workers in your Miscellania Kingdom to gather primary resources) has been an easy source of money, possibly earning hundreds of thousand geepees per day for a minimal 2 minutes of work each day boosting your approval rating.

However, with the recent downturn in prices of the commodities that MTK brings into the game (namely maple logs, coal, flax, herbs, fish etc.), is the kingdom even worth it anymore? Sure, a lucky kingdom manager may reap in a lot of money should they discover magic seeds or other high level tree seeds nestled in a bird's nest, but this can be a rarity at times and is unreliable. As the prices of maple logs and coal (the two most commonly assigned resources) plummets, so does the reliability of the Kingdom. Doing a quick browse of the Runescape Official Forums shows that maple logs are being put up for sale at 35-45 gp each (the majority are sold around this price). This is worrisome since the cost of maple log gathering for the Miscellania workers is 56.1 gp per log, at least 10 gp higher than what they are sold in the market today. Coal is also falling in price at 150gp each, flax at 55gp each, and all herbs dropping in price as well.

With the current low prices of MTK resources, the profit of this minigame is low, and may even soon turn out to be a loss, should the falling price trend continue.

Is your kingdom even worth it anymore? Please discuss the effectiveness and profit of Manage Thy Kingdom in today's prices.

P.S. I already have withdrew all my money from the kingdom coffers, since I do not believe I would profit (especially the time wasted (when I could be Runecrafting and making more money) selling these products, since the GE hardly sells maples and coal quickly). Also, I know some people use MTK to aid their own skills, e.g. using coal for smithing, maples for firemaking and fletching, etc. Since I am solely concentrated on one skill at a time (now RCing, next slayer), I have no need for these resources to use later, and so I merely sell my resources for profit back into the Runescape economy.

I think you're probably right. Honestly, the GE has slain resource gathering entirely, but that's not what the post's about. Resource prices have been dropping for a while even before the GE, and Jagex fixed the MTK prices years ago. So it's obvious they'll be outdated sometime, unless Jagex updates MTK to reflect market prices, which they won't do because it might be equated in some twisted minds to admitting they were wrong, and they don't do that very well.

2 words. Bird's Eggs.

And besides that, you have to take in consideration the nests you get sell for about 1k per, if you lose 10gp per log, then 1 nest breaks even for 100 logs.

Well, yes, bird's eggs might turn out to be a profitable choice in the coming year. Since I'm shunning summoning however, I have no need to collect these anyway as I'm sure they'll still be untradable. :)

And maple log prices are generally around 40gp now tbh and still dropping :(. But I can defenitely see how certain types of players can still use MTK for their own profit.

MTK and any other mini-game isn't suppose to turn huge profits. The mini game is helping you gather resources for yourself. I use MTK for coal and now I am going for birds eggs out of it. Coal is 90 ea on MTK, so you can still easily sell coal for a profit even to the grand exchange. Runescape is about working for you money, and the way MTK works is you are getting a service so you don't have to mine coal, and chop maples. Services usually cost money, and in MTK you can easily break even.....even though the Grand Exchange prices have dropped.

Personally, I have 10 guys on maples and 5 on coal in MTK. Use maples to firemake, seeds from birdnests to farm and sell the birdnest for 1k a pop. I use the coal to make mith and steel bars and then pound them into armor and alch. I easily make my money back from it and even if I don't make it all back....what is the end result....EXPERIENCE and LEVELS. To me MTK helps me level up those skills I don't take the time to do myself. Just remember that MTK is a Service and not a Get Rich Quick Scheme

yes it has taken a hit, but i let mine keep going for now.

if you keep your kingdom going and do not sell the items(75k a day, how hard could that be to make?) in say... a year, when items return to more normalized prices. you will have ALOT of items to sell. and hell, who knows you might just use those resource materials between now and then

QFT.

I don't think maples are ever gonna rise though, too many people are using kingdom for maples (quick cash from selling palm/mage seeds) and there are not enough fmers out there to buy out the maples.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

The Kingdom could use a makeover.

Perhaps they could discover some new veins of ore (addy, mith, rune, gold, silver) instead of just coal.

Or some different types of fish.

Maybe even a plain cash return - as if your subjects took the goods to market themselves and saved you a percentage of the cash.

be. perhaps the usefulness of eggs will otuweigh the monetary loss?

Personally i got my ifrst egg yesterday from MTK, so I'm quite happy. :D

Hmmm....

I need a new siggy, get round to doing it later.

Probably.

Yeah, I used to be able to offset the money invested in the kingdom by selling the maple logs collected (whilst keeping the bird nests).

I'm still doing it since the nests are worth a lot and this is the only really fast way of collecting them. But it's definately becoming less appealing.

But given that crafting and smithing and most of the production skills are massive cash leaks to level, whats wrong with wanting a little inflow of money to fund my exploits? I am more then a little frustrated that losing massive piles of cash is the price to level up. I don't particularly like that wanting a "break even" training method is considered crazy, or even "greedy." Maybe this will sound like a rant, but isn't there something odd when the two biggest money makers are swamp tar and spider eggs; while people willing to pour their money and time into crafting have to take a flying leap with their products?

I pulled all of my money out of there couple of days ago. Thinking of starting monster-hunting for my money now.

I purely see it as ways to get resources i need for cheaper than market price, If i can get anything back out of it, I am already getting more than what I bargained for, so I would not give a toss if the prices of the resources went to hell, if i can sell it, I am already getting more than i wanted in the first place.

It hasnt stopped me from keeping cash in there. I really dont think doing next to no work apart from finishing a quest gives you continuous supply of money, otherwise it'll be too easy.
