This topic is about the updates that were brought upon Runescape today, December 10, 2007.

Honestly I havent been this flabbergasted in all the years that I have been playing Runescape. Why? Not necessarily the updates itself mind you. It was more of the reaction of the vast majority of players who have been affected by the updates. Jagex has been cracking down on Real World Trading in the last several updates. A major update was the Grand Exchange. A lot of players, F2P players especially, because they finally have a place where they can go to sell their stuff to anyone. This has, however led to an inflation in a lot of the popular items such as yew logs. I heard a fair amount of discussion about the Grand Exchange, but all in all it was a fairly nice smack in the face of all who abuse game by RWT and drop trading.

Then I read the update on the wilderness and how it was shrunk, had combined some features, and basically 'ruined' the Pking industry for everyone. I do not believe that it ruined it, but I will admit that it is a devistating blow to all who found that this was the only truely exciting part of the game. Many have already quit instead of waiting this out to see what will come of it. Maybe that's what it will take for Jagex to reconsider their updates. Honestly, however, look at how much Runescape has to offer. We have 23 skills to work on, each and ever one of them takes hard work and dedication (or a lot of money) to reach a high level. But not all skills or features of Runescape attract everyone. A lot of people play Runescape for that one feature that they love most, if it be a master fletcher, master chef, a quester, or a Role-play fanatic.

This update affects the majority of us though. Why? Because not only are players quitting Runescape, but many more are flooding back into the skill part of RS. This, in my theory, will cause a major inflation in the Grand Exchange and eventually to a crash in the RS economy (similar to America's economy becoming a pile of trash). Jagex, I believe, saw that this would be a huge blow to the game, which is why they introduced bounty hunting and clan wars into the game, to make up for the loss in PKing.

I will give them credit where credit is due: their updates will probably put a large dent in RWT. However, a few questions still nag at my mind: Would Jagex be willing to risk their jewel of a game for the sake of keeping the rules intact? How are they going to respond to this problem? Will they stick firm to the rules, no matter what the cost? (And I mean this literally, because if they do have over a million members like they claimed a few months back, then at the very least theyre making 5 million dollars a month, plus whatever charges for pay my phone, pay by cash, sms, etc., minus all the costs) Will this force them to create newer assets to RS, or even an RS3? The update to RS2 iteself was a controversy too, but it all worked out. So maybe all of this will too. Jagex just needs time to let the storm to subside and then theyll be cranking out the updates for everyones convinence again.

I would say put trust in good ol' Jagex, because everyone can find something they like in RS.

Hehe, I thought this was another ranter's whining when I saw the topic, but it isn't. Personally however, I doubt very much that mass quitting has happened: most people would want to stay to see Summoning at the very least, others would want to see the aftermath of it all, and still others...

The Eternal Quitter

Just comes on the forum to let everyone know he's quitting for good and to spend a dozen paragraphs explaining why. Then does it again three months later.

Sample Quote: "For real, this time."

Punishment: Forced to actually quit.

On the whole, I don't think JAGeX will be dented much on the commercial side. This, IMO, is a necessary update (although they could've done it a bit more mildy...), and I think JAGeX made the right decision. I'm sure the problems with Bounty Hunter will be fixed to make it closer to what it should be.

Why do you resist? My experiments are only helping humanity push the boundaries of the Art of Toxicology... you should be proud to be one of my victims.

I liked Pking. I don't like to stare at my screen for hours clicking tiny pictures of fishing graphics.

Is that what Runescape's about these days?? -.-

The only thing mentioned today that really upset me was the future update of a 3k trade restriction... I started thinking wouldnt it be more intellegent for them to just do the 5% margin like the Grand Exchange instead of doing 3k + or -???

Other than that, the rest of the update really doesn't affect me. Until rune prices bomb due to the mass of people who will start RC'in through the abyss now... Then its more difficult for me to get the purple phat I set a goal for... :wall:

Apparently, my signature was to big.

I like the update my self, but please make a Tradelimit like 100 Combat or something... Macroers never get up to 100 combat without getting banned, so there would be one solution for trading.
