My Money Making Method: Is It Inefficient?

Recommended Posts

I just stumbled upon a method for making money, using the Grand Exchange and an amulet of glory. It makes money fairly fast, by my standards, but I am poor, and I dunno how fast "fast" is. Here's the method:

Required:

1 amulet of glory (if you have more, you don't have to recharge as often, but only 1 is required)

At least 9k (for 6 green dragonhides, enough to start out)

21 Agility (I think it's 21: you have to be able to take the shortcut NW of the Grand Exchange)

Hero's Quest (see entry below)

A method getting to the Hero's Guild moderately fast -- be it house tele (Taverley), games necklace, or other -- otherwise, you can't use this long-term

Steps:

1. In the Grand Exchange, buy dragonhides, NOT d-leather. Whatever color you want (if the price thing still works -- check the bottom for details), as many as you want. I do it in quantities of ~30, green, to be safe.

--------1a. Offer the most price: you probably won't have to pay that much, it's faster this way, and even if you do pay the most, you still make a profit.

2. Glory to Al-Kharid.

3. Bank running to the tanner, tan all the dragonhides.

4. Glory to Edgeville. Run east to the Exchange.

5. Sell all the d-leather. Offer the least price: you'll probably get more, it's faster this way, and even if you do get the least and pay the most, you'll still make a profit.

6. Lather, rinse, repeat.

For green dragonhide/leather, the max buy price of dragonhide is less than the min price of leather. THIS IS A MUST. Check the prices for your preferred color.

Can anyone with a good sense of timing estimate the gp/hour rates? (Don't do it for an hour, that would waste time. Do it for 10 minutes and multiply by six or something). Is it any good?

Thanks.

Goals: Quest cape, skill range 10 or less, all stats above 60. (Although yes, I am aware that in order to do the first two, I have to do the third.)

I think your method is inefficient because your buying hides each run and paying maximum price too.

Instead you could just buy them in mass (like 2k or so) for the average price on the grand exchange while you do something else while waiting for it to complete.

Then just stay at al kharid and run back and forth instead of wasting time trying to recharge glory's.

I'm not buying max price: I'm OFFERING max price, and Jagex gives me a partial refund (the seller was asking for less). For some reason, the effect works both ways; I get extra money selling too.

I'm checking the prices that I get for (not the ones that are up there) right now. I'll edit when I have the values.

Buy green d-hide at:

-------------Offer 1763 each

-------------Real Buy at 1680 each

Tanning cost: 20 gp

Sell leather at:

-------------Offer 1817 each

-------------Real Sell at 1913 each

Profit/hide:

-------------Offer 34 each

-------------Real Deal at 213 each

If you buy ~500 a run, you might be able to get 100k a run, and thus 200k per glory recharging. I don't have a decent stopwatch, so I couldn't tell how fast my runs are. Also, my current balance limits me to 30/run. (I'm poor )

This is for green dragon hides. I don't know how profitable the other hides are; I'll try to measure them tomorrow. Sorry.

At some point you have, or will experience that warm and fuzzy feeling of doing your "thing". Like your hunch is telling you this is your moneymaker, not just some random moneymaker. And that's the moneymaker you should stick with, regardless of profit made.

Such a moneymaking method has existed since even before ge. As long as leather price stays around 200gp above hides, you should get around 200k-300k profit/hr, not bad anyway. To top it up, you can do alching for mage exp while travelling the distance to and fro the tanner from bank.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

For the amount of money and experience you seem to have, this seems like a fairly good idea.

You'll soon be able to start doing it with more numbers, making even more money, and then be able to move on to something with bigger profits.

I say go for it.

Man, I really do love Runescape, and I'm sure if it was a real person I would of asked it to marry me by now.

The skills amulet tele you to cooking guild, which is closer than the edgy tele.

Can the skills amulet teleport me near Al-Kharid?

Can I recharge the skills amulet (without completing possibly the hardest quest in the game)?

Can I buy the skills amulet for less that 100k?

Maybe for you, it's good. Adapt the method how you want. But I'm sticking with glories.

Thanks anyway.

By the way, I noticed that this thread got moved. I accessed it from the General Discussion board, where I posted it, because moving apparently lingers. I don't know where it is actually. Where is it now? Why was it moved? If there's another forum more appropriate, sorry for putting it in here. I'm a forum n00b.

By "experience I seem to have", do you mean my low skills, or my general noobish knowledge?

The skills necklace can't take you to al kharid, but it will take you to the crafting guild, there's a tanner there. Thi'll save a bit of time. The only problem is you have to finish legends to recharge, but it really isnt a hard quest, its just getting the requirements.

Btw, thread was moved to 'Help and Advice' all questions go there.

Good point, hadn't thought of that. Would fairy ringing from Edgeville be the fastest way to recharge? (Planning for when I get the reqs and finish the quest)

I do. It's just that I'm poor enough that "bulk" means 200. (Yea, I got money fast enough with this that now I can buy 200, instead of 30. Still lame.)

Quote the sig, not the post. Otherwise you'll confuse the heck out of people.

Another thing I noticed: You can use canoes, meaning no need to recharge. I'm not sure if the extra space from lumby canoe to tanner is worth the lack of space between edgeville canoe and GE, and the time lost recharging. But I thought it was worth mentioning.

It's probably not worth it, but I'm bored. I feel like cleaning my method up and putting it on the PMG forum.

1) Any tips?

2) Is the one I found (Archive of Wisdom/PMG: Money-Making) the one for good ones, or the one where any guide is OK, and only the best are stickied?

3) If 2 is "only the good", where do I put the bad?
