For example, this one:

http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=731170

I'm not particularly out to shame someone here. But I did want to make a point in regard to the mass PM issue. BlueLancer misinterpreted the thread as just another picture to drop in the pictures thread, but the person who made the thread, sarge1010, was trying to discuss the strange change in their signature, which affects all RuneWeb.Net signature users, and possibly understand why it was occurring. Well, I could see I might not get anywhere by PM-ing the Mod, and thought that If I could have involved an Admin simultaneouly from the start, there might have been a chance of getting the thread unlocked for further discussion.

Maybe we could have a small mass PM ability, like 2 or 3 users at the same time at maximum, just for these kinds of things? Or possibly a "Wrongful Lock" report option that would only be usable in the event that a thread was locked? Maybe further limited by time and/or quality of posts within the total post count, which would limit it to those who were actually reasonable community members?

I do not think that was the intention of that thread, nor was that thread needed with similar, extremely similar threads about the logo existing. So I still think it should have remained locked in any case, but that's not the discussion.

And you should PM the issue more so over then making it public, because that was a weak way to present why we'd need the Mass PM. Scenarios like those are rare, and are not in the hundreds. Thus, it won't kill the people who want to make a complaint against the Mod, or Admins for a lock, for PMing the admin and mod. If in your situation the event happened every hour, then maybe the Mass PM would be needed, but then again, I think an overhaul of the locking system would be done first. ;)

We don't need the mass PM, or multiple PM, simple as that. I highly doubt your going to need to PM more than 10 people at a time. If its that important, and because it never is that important, and if it were, it'd be extremely rare, and would need to have extremely could credentials behind it, then you could PM an admin/mod? to do it.

It's just impractical to have it, when the amount of users who need it, aren't even past 1 (excludes mods/admins). Plus the amount of users who would abuse you it anyways, unless of course this system that we're discussing does get implemented, and then a few number of 'members' would be able to mass pm, but would hardly use it in my opinion. It's like giving guns to Toddlers. When they find how to use them, they will probably in most cases, in my opinion, use the guns to shoot each other to gain power/to be a bad - - -. >.> Even if this is extreme, it represents why we don't need the Mass PMs.

I've seen way to many idiots on this forum with well over a thousand posts to even consider backing up this idea >_<.

Me being included in that group, of course.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

@Tripsis

You could add it in the rules, somewhere in 1.6 to 1.9, changing the 1.9 to 1.10 though. Then again somewhere between 2.2 and 2.4, or just add it in to 2.2?

:o Sounds like greek to me

That's why you read the rules.

2.9 - Forum Polls

  • Regular users do not have the option to create their own forum poll, due to the feature being abused in the past. If you would like a poll added to your thread and have a plausible reason, private message a Moderator or an Administrator. If they agree that a poll is appropriate for your thread, one will be added for you.

Yeah mods - brace yourselves!! :XD:

No seriously though, I'm sure it will take a while to catch on. I mean how many people honestly read the rules on a daily basis (and scroll down to the very bottom)?

Nice idea, but this is one of those things that can be interpreted as 'favoritism'.

:o Yes you have a good point there. There are many new users that are just as knowledgeable as others.

And besides, aren't these "Experienced users" already called "Moderators?"

Yeah that was my thought as well. I like to think that people will turn to staff members when they have a question or concern about the forum (which many people do actually). After all, we're probably the most qualified ones to answer such questions.

Ugh. 10?!?!? WT[bleep]?!?!? <*Falls over from the shock...*> ... I'm only asking for a max of 2 or 3 people allowed to be sent to with 1 PM, not 10. 10 is just [bleep]-ing ridiculous and totally unnecessary. If someone needs to talk with 10 people simultaneously, they either need to use an IM program, use IRC, take it to RuneScape, start a forum thread, or all meet up in real life. Why? That's larger than just a small group... it's a setting for a dinner meet! :|

With this kind of frustration, I give up. <*Rolls his eyes  and leaves the thread.*>

Perhaps a laid-back type board where users can ask staff (admins, mods, and crew) any questions they like? Including, "is this appropriate?" without fear of punishment. Some sort of staff/user lounge where nothing is taboo (except extremes of course).

Can add more later when I'm not busy..

Nice sneak-in while I was editing my last post here and doing some clean-up on the back end. I agree with this idea, and support it. It would sure help with community relations.

Guess I'll stick around and keep an eye out. :P

I'm good at sneaking.. and poking slow people with rusty objects. :)

I just know that previous attempts to get new users to participate in anything can be quite hard, especially a somewhat complex idea like this. Not like I wouldn't WANT it to work.. it's just hard to get new users to go visit a certain board, asks questions, etc. Not everyone is interested in that, especially younger users. All of this isn't even touching on the aspect of giving power/responsibility to people who can't handle it. In a case like this, if I thought someone was worthy of being a "mentor," I'd almost certainly look into integrating them into the staff (mods or crew) somehow instead, hah.

Yeah that's what I was thinking :P I mean if they're kind, helpful, have a good posting history, have been around a while, why not make them part of the staff? :P

Anyways, in response to your other idea, I'd be up for that. We could just make a subforum of Help & Advice for "forum questions." It could range from post count questions to questions like "Is this within forum rules?" or "Is a poll appropriate for my thread?"

Why two separate boards? I think that would create a problem that we've come across before... What board does it go in? Also, I bet that lots of threads would end up in the wrong place, therefore needing moving. Again, why not just one board, H&A, for all questions about RS or Tip.it?

Um I'm just curious, can you add a poll to my thread on Off Topic. Its the one with the thread title that asks the question "Would you abuse the poll system if it were reintroduced?" And can I have the options on it to be "Yes" "Hell Yes," "What's a Poll?" and "I like Ponies." Thanks.

Well my reasoning for two boards is because Help & Advice is primarily user-answered questions and the subforum would be staff-answered questions. If we had questions like "Is this inappropriate?" then regular users would post their opinion, which may differ from an official answer and confuse the author of the thread.

I don't know where you would put it, but could you put a note somewhere that says something along the lines of, "If you wish to have a poll added to your thread, please don't hesitate to PM a moderator or admin to request one."

I was actually just thinking that. I'll poke around a bit tomorrow and see if there's a place that I could smoothly add it in. If you have any ideas, don't keep 'em quiet ;)

Just a couple of things.

If you have a question about how a thread has been handled, contact the moderator (nicely) for that forum or contact an Administrator via private message. It's virtually impossible for us to see every cross reference to locked/moved/edited threads.

As for forum questions, we could just roll them up into this forum as more of a "Forum Questions & Suggestions" theme.

I'm good at sneaking.. and poking slow people with rusty objects. :)

Skilled, you have become.

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?
