System Update Clash

Featured Replies

System updates should be done at a time where it does not clash with anything. Or at least some things. We have 3 mill in the party room and were about 4 mins from starting and lost everything in there.

Maybe Jagex should check some things before the updates are scheduled or give us a ten minute warning rather than a three minute warning.

.sigs these of many too read have you backwards this read you If

Finding cool stuff = advertising.

And then they'd have to plan it around people at Dag Kings, and people in GWD, and people in the fight caves (because you know they'd demand it too). And since there's always someone doing one of these at any other time, we'll never get updates. Ever.

What they should do is simply announce the update in advance. If they gave even 30 minutes warning, that would be a massive help allowing players and clans to briefly postpone parties, monster hunting trips, minigames etc...

^ Perfect solution, right there.

That's stupidly too long. 10 minutes would be fine. If Jagex wanted to release a hotfix or a quick patch they wouldn't want to wait 30 minutes to apply it. Especially if it was a serious exploit.

It wasn't a system update. The host crashed, Jagex had no control over it.

Still, it brings up questions. What if you were about to kill Jad? You would want some time to know about the update so you could pause the minigame and log.

IT WASN'T AN UPDATE!!!! THE SERVERS CRASHED THERE WAS NO WARNING BECAUSE SERVERS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO CRASH. WHEN A REAL UPDATE HAPPENS THERE IS A 15 MIN COUNTDOWN TIMER, AGAIN THIS WASN'T AN UPDATE!!!!

Sorry for the caps but it just wasn't sinking in.

We're rebooting the game servers to make some essential updates to the game

That doesn't sound like a crash. And I don't think they EVER gave a 15 minute warning...

OMG!!!!!!!11!!1! While the game was down this was posted on the front freakin page:

RuneScape Server Problems

Telstra, one of our service providers, is currently experiencing technical difficulties. As a result, you will not be able to access the RuneScape game and a number of our website features. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and we are assured our service provider is working hard to rectify this fault.

They are REBOOTING the game servers which means after they went down the turned them off and turned them back online, after they had already crashed, and they only give 15 min warnings when they intend to bring the servers down, such as when system updates happen. Please use logic in any responses.

Still kinda hard to read the front page while you're trying to kill two 360s in the Caves eh?

That message was posted there the entire time RS was down, the time that nobody could have been logged in. It was only like idk ... 40+ mins, not like thats enough time to check the front page ....

Ok, I'm not sure I'm understanding what happened. Please forgive me. To my understanding there was a system reboot, and JAgex posted on the front page 15 minutes or something before the crash to alert players then let it stay for the duration of the reboot. If that's the case this is my reply:

True. But I normally don't check the front page for emergency updates while I'm playing.

If not: Explain it please?

Ok you obviously aren't understanding. The game servers (Login, forum, site systems) hosted by this one company crash (Not intentionally and they didn't know it would happen) after they crashed they tried to get everyone off the servers but some people lagged out. Now during this Jagex posted a message explaining what happened.

Now I'm saying they only give you a 15 min warning in game with a small countdown when they intend to bring the server down for an update.

Because this was an accident by the hosting company they couldn't give a 15 min warning so all your mindless complaining is for nothing because if they wanted to bring the servers down there would have been a warning.

I get it now.

But still, I've never remembered JAgex giving 15 minutes before a system update. It's always been 4 minutes in my memory, but it may have changed.

I'm pretty sure it's 15 mins because I have a screenshot of it at like 5 and some seconds:

Ok, still doesn't mean it's 15 minutes though.

POINT IS: IF it Jagex gives enough time for players to prepare for a system update, all is fine. If not, they should.

Can we get off of the topic of the crash and back on the original topic?

I think Jagex should give more than three minutes before a system update (I believe the thread starter was referring to weekly updates for new content) and give players more time to do things like finish waves at Fight Caves and drop parties.

There's 150+ Worlds. I don't think they'd be able to check everyone, and the update. By the time they'd finish, something could be happening on another world. :(

Lordofrah1 I think this is enough on misinforming other players..There is NOT an 15 minutes countdown, only 3!!!! minutes.

And again, due 3 minutes rest of your arguments are invalid, because you have to wait more then 3 minutes when you put 1m+ items in party room..

Palas1.png

Maybe, rather than causing a bunch of trouble for Jagex, people could just not hold events on Mondays and Tuesdays at about the time updates usually occurr. Why does everything have to be blamed on Jagex when, if you think about it, the players already know of the possibility of an update hapening and can easily avoid it?

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

There are only 10 types of people

in this world: those who understand

binary and those who don't.

This statement is false.

Did you idiots read the rest of the thread, I posted a screenshot of the countdown at 5 mins therefor it is longer than 3 mins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A 10-20 minute warning wouldn't hurt.

[insert birds flying in a circle here]

Yes, that sig was annoying.
