Hey I seem to remember this topic from before the rollback,and sadly no one revived it,so I shall.Okay,sadly I have not much recollection of the layout,though I do remember categories for Edited and Non-Edited,so lets just start with that.As for rules...

Allowed Tools: Basically anything you could do in a dark room, or in this case, digitally... in Adobe "Light Room"

   Contrast/Brightness
    
   Saturation
    
   Sharpening
    
   Curves
    
   Photo Filter
    
   Exposure
    
   Also the use of the spot-removal or the healing tools to remove unwanted things [dust, blemishes, birds that strayed into the shot]

 

Manipulation =

 

Photomanipulations are images that have been composed of two or more photographic elements to create something new.

• Anything, including super-imposing an image within another

  Blending modes

If you're using a "special" lens,say so.

 

Don't enter edited under non-edited,its really essentially cheating.

 

I'll say I'd allow 2 entries per category.

It's a good initiative, knowing the old POTM got ruined because of the rollback.

 

I'm not sure if we could just use the old rules, I'm not saying these are bad but I'm used to the other rules :)

manipulation=manipulation but basically every photo will look 'less good' if even the basics arent applied on it.

 

 

 

Or we simply cut the 'Non edited' category out, and we let the photographers decide on themselves wether they manipulate it or not.

 

(Manipulated isn't always better than less-manipulated photos)

Yeah,but I personally think that a photo manipulator would be more biased.Though yeah I know most of the guys on TIF are honest and fair,you know,there are exceptions...

You're an artist, it's up to your interpretation. You're looking for other people's votes, so you're trying to appeal to what makes them think of nature when they see your photo. I would definitely count clouds as nature, as they're not man made (in the majority).

 

 

 

I'll enter a photo tomorrow. Can we clear up whether or not panorama's are considered a manipulation. I vote no, as what's the difference between stitching and buying a camera that shoots in a panoramic format. It's the skill of the photographer that determines if the photos can fit together correctly, ammount of exposure wise, and it's still the photographer's feel for a shot that would have him or her take the photo, it's the limitations of his equipment that aren't enabling him/her to take it as they would wish.
