barbarian fishing? the in's and out's

2 questions here:

What's faster exp per hour?

Fishing with a harpoon and catching tuna/swordfish or fishing bare handed and catching tuna/swordfish? Having the same fishing level of course...

Next..

In catching the leaping trout/salmon/sturgeon is the only place you can those at the hut where otto lives? Or is there some more convenient place...

And if that is the only place you can catch them...what do most people do when they've got a full load...drop? bank? If bank, they teleport? How they get back fast?

Thanks!

i dont know about the first question, but i think that most people drop the leaping fish they catch, and maybe keep the caviar they get. if you want to bank fast use a duel ring/glory to a bank and games necklace back, or use the deposite box at ba ::'

There are three sides to every story: There's one side, there's the other, and there's the truth.

1.i think bare hand is faster plus you get free str exp! i mean you could see yourself catching the fish combine that with an ibis

2.only place yup.castle wars teleport,games necklace back

thats only if you want to keep the caviar really thats the best thing there

catching leaping fish is for power training i read somewhere that you bring like 25 bait and catch 25 fish then cut them open for roe and cavier dropping the offcuts then u fish again except this time you use the roe and caviar as the bait to let u fish longer then once u run out you bank and bring 25 more bait back

1100 total achieved 03/02/09 880thousandth to reach it :P

1200 total achieved 29/09/11 1.23millionth to reach it :P

Bring 25 bait.

Use up the bait. Cut the fish.

Use the offcuts until you have a full inventory.

Drop the offcuts.

Use the caviar/roe.

Cut the fish.

And so on.

Also, bare handed is just as fast and gives you strength xp. If you can do it it's better, as it also disables the whirlpool and fish randoms.

It's not a common belief so i'm gonna be flamed to hell for this, but whatever. In my extensive tests barehand fishing is a tad slower than harpoon, also strength level (and pots) does affect speed (d baxe spec every time it charges whilst fishing).

I'm not oging to arguethis with anybody, but i've tested a LOT ;)

What D Jay99 said is spot on for pwoerfishing, it's very intensive with clicks so i reccomend a decent mouse.

Barbarian fishing is about 50k exp an hour. I just took offcuts with me (2gp each) and just constantly fished. That saved me having to go back to the bank.

Barbarian fishing is actually very intensive and boring, on my way to 99 fishing i prefered shilo simply because it meant I could do other things. (reply to this post for example) Because of less boredom it then meant i could fish for longer too. it's either 4 hours of boredom or 5 hours of forum browsing. I'd choose Tip it any day

Honestly, I didn't find the heavy rod fishing very click-intensive, mainly because every ~15 seconds of quick clicking was interrupted by another ~90 seconds of sitting back and watching your character fish. The real drawback, in my opinion, is that it eats up your chat box like no tomorrow.

On a side note, world 22 is the hotspot for heavy rod fishing. You can usually find some company there if you prefer not to fish alone.

I've gone from lvl 70 to 72 with heavy rod fishing so far.

I tried cutting the fish for the first few inventories, but then I remembered that fishing bait is only 2gp each. I am never going to cut another leaping trout or salmon again, ever. Fishing bait is only 2gp. All that clicking is absolutely not worth the time and effort just to save a measly ~50gp every inventory.

I drop all the trouts and salmon, and take the sturgeon to the drop box at the Barbarian outpost. I'll cut them later because ~450gp each for the caviar seems like it will be worth the time and effort. But I'll do it some other time, while I'm not trying to get fast fishing exp.

Edit just to add a little bit more info:

About 25% of what I catch are sturgeon, and it takes me about 10 minutes to fill up my inventory with sturgeon while dropping the others.

It takes about 1 minute to run to the Barbarian outpost, bank, and run back. So saving the sturgeon instead of dropping it slows me down about 10%, but I can live with that because the caviar looks like it will make a decent profit eventually.

I use about 350 fishing bait per Ibis. (36 minutes iirc)

The whole purpose of fishing barbarian is the speed, Your loseing maybe 1-2 invintories of fish by not cutting and not dropping. It is a repeated cycle, you should'nt move more than 10 spaces at any give time.

As D jay99 posted: (sorry, too lazy to quote)

Drop the offcuts.<------Dropping the offcuts will give you one invintory space, now, it'll fish a single fish for a single roe and a single fish for a single caviar.

Use the caviar/roe.<---------in the end, you should have 1 invintory space free, from dropping offcuts.

Cut the fish.

And so on.<----------he meant repeat. Do not bank anything.

Also, cutting them up is so much faster, your gaining 1million+ exp in cooking, agility, and strength. Starting at level one, that could get you to 73 in each skill. Think of how bored your gonna be sitting at a bank cutting fish. It is like "the fletching horror x2".

I understand that heavy rod fishing is all about speed, that's why I don't waste my time cutting the fish while I'm fishing.

Dropping them and using regular fishing bait the whole time is faster than cutting them and futzing around with the offcuts and roe and caviar.

Eventually, I'll spend 1/4 as much time cutting fish as you do (since I'm only saving the sturgeon, which are about 1/4 of my catch). But when I cut my fish, I'll be left over with something I can either use for herblore exp, or sell for cash.

Think about what your saying, your running to a deposit box and running back while i'm useing my knife on the bottom fish so that it cuts up every one of that kind. How hard is that? Your dropping fish, all i'm doing is dropping offcuts. Your method is loseing you 1-2 invintories of fish. You want me to come show you what i'm talking about? Your loseing valuble exp doing what you're doing. Caviar doesn't sell in mass quantities i believe too.

I have thought about what I'm saying. :P

I know that saving the sturgeon is slowing me down a little, I said that in my first post.

Now you think about what I'm saying please -- dropping the junk fish and using regular fishing bait is faster than using the offcuts and caviar and roe for bait. I know it's not a huge amount faster, but combined with being able to sell the caviar or use it for herblore exp makes it the best method for me.

Wanna race, i'm totally serious too. I'll prove it to you how much faster i'm going.

If your fishing lvl is significanly above 72, I don't think a race would show anything about our methods at all.

Why are you trying to turn this into a pissing contest?

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Lol, its 75. ugh, read my posts, i'm not getting mad, geez :P

You wanna race? :D

Hmm, me + an ibis should, in theory, let me fish at the same speed as you without a familiar.

I'm really not interested in a "race" because I already told you in my first post that I'm taking a ~10% loss of speed by banking. I know this.

I'm more interested in proving that the invisible +3 boost from the ibis is just as good as 3 real fishing lvls.

Can I trust you not to use fishing potions?

Thanks for all the ideas..

at my current standing, the 25 bait and cut fish for bait method seems to be the most efficient since it uses up all means of exp from the fish.

And im not that interesting in money, since it won't and can't be that much...

Thanks!

if theres more ideas, you're welcome to post..

I went fishing for 38 minutes a little bit ago and ended up with 25330 fishing exp and 82 sturgeon in the bank. (I didn't count how many swordfish the ibis caught, oops.) That's just a hair slower than a 40k exp per hour pace, and with the current market price of 574gp per caviar, almost 75k gp per hour too.

So yeah, it's not a huge ammount of cash per hour, but it'll add up to about 670k more (not including the sturgeon I've already banked from 70-72) by the time I hit lvl 76 and move on to sharks.

40k exp/hr is plenty fast enough for me, I don't mind giving up 4k exp for 75k gp every hour.

Hey, beats Shilo. Shilo is also 40k/hr, but no agility exp and a lot less cash. Do yourself a favor though and do monks over sharks...in the current market, you actually get faster money catching monkfish than you do catching sharks (although it is close). And triple the experience rates, of course.
