What happens when you expose a kid to sex / violence

Featured Replies

To me it would seem that every kid is different, and so they would react different to this. Therefore I think that it is good that these 'rules' are here.

So I also wonder. Why do people think that if they were exposed to pornography and extreme violence at the age of 7, and they function normally now, this would go for the entire nation. Maybe, you could wake up and realize that the world isn't based on you.

Can someone explain to me why sex and violence are commonly put in the same sentence, as if they're related in a way?

I think it's one of the greatest hypocrisies of our time. A lot of films with violence are PG-rated, whereas a film with -even sufficiently 'clouded'- sex scenes gets R-rated. Yes, children, violence is a-okay because it won't give you AIDS or unwanted children. Sigh.

I'm not denying that sex can be a disturbing idea for young children, but from a certain age onwards it will become a big part in their daily life. At least, if their parents don't mess them up and burden them with fears and complexes about it. Violence seems to be a lot more traumatising, no? But since we've been fed with images of violence from a very young age onwards, we've become jaded.

My parents have lied to me so many times, I can't trust them. Even after I said Santa wasn't real he is just a fake, my parents denied it. Thanks to my rebelious nature, I've been kicked out of walmart 14 times \'

Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob.

People in OT eat glass when they are bored.

I was pretty much forced to grow up fast. By the time i was 10, I was already an addict. I was exposed to a lot of "real-world" things at that time (sex,drugs,violence,etc.). I got into some trouble and got sent to a group home for 3 years. I don't blame it on my early exposure to adult-oriented things I just made some bad decisions. After all that I decided I needed a new start. I'm 16 now, emancipated, living with my sister and i'm proof that you can be exposed to a lot of horrible things and make it out alright. Bi-Polar is common in my family and I also have it and while this would make me a more "likely candidate" for getting into trouble i've never hid behind it or used it as an excuse. If anything, my early exposure into the real world has made me a better person today.
