Some of you may know Joss Whedon, of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," and "Firefly" fame. Anyway, earlier this year, when the writers' strike was still going on, he decided he wanted to prove that the whole giant telecom corporation machinery wasn't necessary to create a damn good TV show. He called on favors from a few friends in the entertainment industry, and they've created an experiment: can this online miniseries succeed with no marketing but word-of-mouth on the internet? with no funding from giant corporations and tv networks? with just the craziness and the genius of Joss Whedon & friends?

 

 

 

On Tuesday, July 15th, the first episode of Dr. Horrible and the Sing-Along Blog is going to be released, for free, over the internet on its website http://www.drhorrible.com/ . It stars Neil Patrick Harris (from Doogie Houser, How I Met Your Mother, Harold & Kumar) and Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Waitress). The next two will be coming out on July 17th and July 19th, respectively.

Been in my bookmarks for a while, being a huge fan of Whedon I am definitely looking forward to it.

So what did everyone think of Act I?

 

 

 

Didn't really know what to expect, but I am very happy with it. It's definitely a little different looking at everything from the villain's point of view.

 

 

 

There were technically problems yesterday, basically the server was raped by the amount of people trying to go there. No idea why that wasn't planned for. Anyways I ended up downloading it off bit-torrent, if you had to do that also make sure to check out the official site today (which is running fine) and just play Act I in the background or something so the viewership count is high.

Looks interesting, i like his basic idea, and this will probably be a cult phenomenon, maybe even a smash hit phenomenon :shock:

Yea, act I was pretty good, big fan of musicals and I enjoyed the songs.

 

 

 

Seems like a very good show. Heck I'd watch that on normal TV, I hope the response is big enough to make them create a series...an online internet series, for the win.

Act II came out today, and it was just as great as the first one, not that anyone should expect anything less from that team.

Just saw the first Act, and it was hilarious. Thanks for sharing this, I got it bookmarked now, and patiently waiting for Act III!

This show is awesome lol. The second Act was pretty hilarious, and very well done.

That was just awesome. I like Act 2 better than the first, but they were both amazing. This would definitely be something I'd watch on TV.

I can't believe how good Neil Patrick Harris is in this role. His facial expressions are *perfect.* He somehow manages to be lovable, pitiable, and even a little horrible at the same time.

 

 

 

I also love how Joss worked in some "fight the man" themes there :P Down with the evil institutions and all.

I loved the first 2 acts but I have one question: does captain hammer really have super strength or is he just very muscular? Because he doesn't seem to be that strong

Rewatch act two when Horrible is making his blog after his freeze ray thing failed: "Captain hammer...threw a car at my head"

I remember seeing a picture on a bio or something that said he could lift 3000 pounds. Can't find it anywhere now though.

 

 

 

Oh and I'd have to say my favourite song is the freeze ray one :D .

I honestly didn't like act 3 as much as 1 or two, and it definitely could've been a bit longer (I WANT MOAR :( ) but act three (and the entire thing) was very, very awesome.

This was EPIC.

 

 

 

[hide=spoilers]I kind of predicted that Penny would die, or at least it was kind of predictable in a sense, but I really didn't think it would end like that, of how she died, but it truly was the best way in my opinion for it to end. Though Captain Hammer could have actually died by how much I'm concerned. Him turning out to be cry baby is funny but it doesn't seem to fit...I would've wanted more than just that one long scene when presenting Hammer's statue. Kind of where it all happened but whatever.[/hide]

 

 

 

I'm hoping enough people buy this series that there's some incentive to make a sequel...Or bonus scenes...=)

Well I didn't see that coming at all. It was pretty good, I think I liked it a little less than act 1 and 2 because it's over now, and that's a little disappointing.

Man...The ending was sad. :cry:

It's amazing how in Act I the atmosphere is all bubbly and funny, and by the end of Act III it's so dark. Great ending, but I want more thou :([/hide]

I didn't like the end.

 

 

 

But yeah, this was awesome. A great movement for indie film makers, too.
