People are making far too big a deal over this. It makes me sad seeing some of the elitist comments coming from people with rares who dont want ppl to think they borrowed them. Geez get over it. Phats, santas and masks were never meant to be these status symbols. Shame on you.

I agree with this in principle.

I also laugh at the idea that a party hat is an accomplishment.

I.E. If you logged in on the day they were dropped, what, exactly, was the challenge?

(now please, let all those who would like to tell the world how great they are and how a party hat makes all their excrement no longer smell and how long they've played...really, I would LOVE to hear how wonderful you think you are)

To those I give a big, "whoopideedoo."

Also, I find it ironic that these youngsters that are driving up prices on your sacred replacement of phalics are those that you are ridiculing for begging for one.

Finally, to those that are better than this rabble of elitists, I applaud you as you have not let your alter-ego tarnish your real-life character. My statements are not blankets, they are directed at a minor sub-set. I fully respect not wanting to be pestered--I fully disrespect those that require a Burger King party favor to feel esteemed.

Thank you for reading.

People need to learn better ways of dealing with beggars.

It's simple: ignore them. Completely. Don't say "no", don't say "go away", just ignore them.

Ignore them and they leave. Others see them get ignored and they don't bother.

Get a thicker skin and remember that you are responsible for how you react to annoying people -- don't give others that power over you.

The majority of rare owners accomplished something by buying a rare. I see your argument, but very few people still have party hats from the drop and still play. And of those, they obviously don't see it as an accomplishment. It's true rares weren't meant to become status symbols. But the moment they became worth millions, regardless of what they used to be, they did become status symbols.

Some people still considered them little nice gimmicky looking hats, but they became more than that. You really had to work to own one. When you bought one, you felt like you accomplished something. For some people, getting 99 in a skill was too boring. Merchanting took more than repetitive clicking. And every rare obtained was another accomplishment. You really have to have traveled down that road to feel that. I'm not asking you to feel like owning a party hat is a big deal or makes anyone better than anyone else for having one. But have some respect for the work people put in to obtain one. People play the game entirely differently for different reasons, and to some, finally obtaining a rare was an accomplishment.

The rares that exist now aren't the same as the gimmicky hats that were dropped years ago. Without getting too corny: like time changes coal into diamond, it changed hats into rares. And with rarity comes value. There's no arguing rares have value - they take work to obtain. And they mean different things to different people.

they put partyhats and other rares on the item lending list in order to please the majority of players who would enjoy lending these out to their friends, rather than appeal to your need to appear "special" in an online fantasy world.

your ego is amazing.

In my opinion, Item Lending is alright but disturbing at the same time.

However, it is easy to get rid of those kind of players by simply saying "nope sorry" ;).

I wasn't arguing about lending items. When I played I lent out my hats all the time to close friends. I'm just saying rares have worth. I don't think owning a party hat makes anyone special. It just represents time put into achieving a goal, like obtaining a certain level in a skill.
