Thegreenfox
When I first started out playing runescape (April 2004), I thought it was the greatest thing in the world. I had never been a mini-clipper and I never will be. I learned about the game through friends at school, and I never stopped bugging them about helping me out, the best way to make gold fast, and where everything was. Since then, I've grown in maturity and discipline, and I realize that there are other things to life besides Runscape. I've quit and told myself I'm never going to play again a dozen times by now, tried to sell my account once or twice, and have become addicted over and over again. I've seen hundreds of updates, good, bad, and ones that didn't affect me at all. I was a member from last August to June (stopped for the summer). And now I am the extremely proud owner of a lvl80 account (don't care what people say) and I'm on the track to 99 wc. However, I still miss the excitement there was in the beginning. The euuphoria there was at trying something different. I don't ask people for handouts anymore and I know where everything is. I know exactly what I'm doing and I take every update in stride. But the game is somehow different than when I began. It's not as wondrous as it used to be. There was just some unexplained feeling there was when I first started RS that i'll never get back. Now Lets Here Some Thoughts!!!!!!!!! Doctors repeat themselves because they have nothing better to say......
surfer25
Yes that has happened to me. I no longer check for updates because they don't excite me anymore. Runescape hasn't become boring in anyway but Updates don't do anything for me -.-
Thegreenfox
The updates still bring something new. Just look at bounty hunter, clan wars, god wars and the complete graphic overwork. Yes, because those were greeted with such enthusiasm.. :P There just isn't much to do anymore, I guess.. Oh well, back to the dragons. There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.
Alg
The excitement is from finding anything new, early on. You're new to it, and there's a huge world ahead of you waiting to be explored. As you get better at the game, you're going to learn the best ways to do everything, and you're going to do them that way. You've seen most of the world and know it like the back of your hand, it's not as big as it once was. There's still thrill in it, if you're not afraid to experiment... erichkiller
The thing about rs is that everything is the same once you get used to it. Because when you approach something new, like getting members for the first time you have so much to do that you haven't done before. After a few years of doing the same thing like killing dragons, the game simply becomes redundant.
klankaos
Sure, maybe the excitement's worn off, but I still love the game. I still find it lots of fun to play. If you don't like the game after you've done it all once or twice, then there's really no point to continuing playing. I'm pretty sure all those of us in this forum are longtime players, and I'm pretty sure none of us have seriously quit, though I did for a couple months for WoW, although Runescape has since sucked me back. What you need is to find a replacement for that excitement, and that should flow from simply playing the game the way it's meant to be played. The feeling isn't gone - it's just changed. Being immature is a part of being mature.
Gin_and_Tonic
I have alot of up/down phases. They're mostly to do with me getting bored of samey tasks (Woodcutting etc) and having to use a laptop for most of what i do (bs touch pad)... I normally go long periods of time before playing again, or cancelling my membership and then returning... I think in around 2-3 months, i probably wont play at all... Unless i get 50m clue drop :D But i agree with you... The novelty has worn off. I used to stake for my money, and got cleaned just before the update... Which bites as i intended to return with my remaining 2m. Now that 2m has just dossed about on my account with nothing to do.
Thegreenfox
Well, when I was a member for the period I was, a small amount of the excitement was there again. But I knew most of the stuff members had through reading it on Tip.It. I knew what I was getting into and that took away some of the wonder at starting afresh. Now that I'm on the track too 99 wc, the redundency is there again, but I was expecting that. When the fall comes and I gaet memship again, the redundency will be gone, but it really won't be anything new. Doctors repeat themselves because they have nothing better to say...... highlanders
Then why do we keep playing? Obviously we enjoy it on some level or another. I wouldn't call it enjoyment for the most part, more like attraction. Mmorpgs have elements that will hook all sorts of people. Some people like immersing into the roleplay of a game, some people like the feeling of pking other players, some people like achieving success into the game, some people want to talk and meet other people, the list goes on and on. Though there are times when the game is truly fun, it usually ends up being boring work for countless hours, but people keep playing because the elements of the game still attract them despite the fun being gone. 2480+ total
klankaos
Maybe it's not necessarily fun, but you'll note that's not the word I used. I said 'enjoy'. And all those things that you said? Those are all many and varied ways to enjoy the game. Nobody who doesn't enjoy some aspect of RS will play the game for much longer. That being said, many people don't enjoy it all the time. I do, but that's just me - I've got a lot of friends and rarely even get any real work done ingame. However, there are people who play for the feeling they get with achieving a goal - whether it be all 99s or just getting your first 50. Everyone likes that feeling, and it must be one of the biggest attractions RS has. The recognition you get from other players when you achieve such a goal is also a motivator to keep playing that only comes along once in a while. You can enjoy aspects of the game without having fun every minute. Being immature is a part of being mature.
Zierro
It's called desensitization and frankly, it sucks and there's not much you can do about it. It works with everything in life. We just gradually become accustomed to the things we like and it ends up starting to bore us.

When I finally finished monkey madness, I was having more fun than I had had in a while. This might sound stupid, but I died 3 times and probably spent about 150k to finish it. If RS didn't have the rewards it has for completing stuff, I probably wouldn't play it at all. Doctors repeat themselves because they have nothing better to say...... OK, sir.... If you want me to be more polite, sensible, sophisticated, and uptight when I make my posts, kindly ask me before you go and begin to make fanciful assumptions. However, for you, my kindly, yet misinformed friend, I will iterate this fact. This is a RuneScape fan site, not a formal paper!!! I'm not going to go back and do a spell check on it! So things like the wrong form of 'hear' or 'where' shouldn't be the end of the world. I can't figure out what you mean by my profile is shabby. As a matter of fact, I don't have any of the things the ask you to fill out, and if I do, I'm not going to post them I'm some website for a million people to look at. I don't really care what people say, I don't completely trust everyone on the internet, not even the people on Tip.It or RS. Hillbilly country is just the name I decided to call central Indiana. I know that not everyone there is a billy, but I am and a lot of my friends are. So I'm sorry if you don't think before making stupid conclusions. As a matter of fact I did make that post up myself. If you don't think so, please don't express that opinion, as I don't have time for that kind of bull. Doctors repeat themselves because they have nothing better to say...... re4p3r1
RS isnt much of a thrill for me anymore either, dont get me wrong its still my favorite game for pc but now that i'm about to graduate high school i find it kinda repetitive. i no longer play rs for hours like i used to my freshman year mainly because now i'm swamped with AP work and extra curricular stuff. the update were great especially the graphics revamp but they're just not enticing to people like me. micahsky92
Same thing happened to me, which has led to me tyring various other MMO's, but none have been as good as runescape. The only Reason I've ever wanted to quit was the bounty hunter... I hate that they replaced the wilderness with it. =D

Haaa_Haaa0
i have to agree, the novelty does wear off. *sigh* i remember the first day i got full bronze...i was the happiest noob in all of runescape. Now, i can buy a Dragon Axe without much effort. Everything requires more work, less play, and it's all less of a learning experience. I now know that it is probably better to sell things to other players (as the GE didn't exist in those fabled days of old) rather than to a general store ( ), and that there are better way's of leveling magic than finding runes laying on the ground and killing chickens. This means the work part of the game is easier, but Castle Wars just isn't as fun, quests are easily looked up on Tip.it's database, and skilling become repetitive, boring, and a chore. The naivety of my old play style was what made the game constantly fun, because i was always looking for new ways to do things. I still enjoy the game (i actually find it relaxing to skill, kind of like meditating :P), but it has become almost a burden at times. SnWRifleman
The feeling that is gone now consists of many things, as I am a RSC player, and have been playing Runescape for 6 years. - No more nap time =( -Firemaking is useful for only quests and the cape now. Before, it was used as a way of cooking meat in the cold, harsh world. People still use it for cooking on F2P, but mainly use a range now. -Business in the Blue Moon Inn. I remember people would charge me to enter the BMI, cause I wanted a beer, or else they'd report me. I always snuck through the back entrance though :P. -Businesses in the Cooking Guild. Same thing as above, except it was a bakery. -The biggest accomplishment of the game: completing Dragon Slayer. Once Elvarg was slain, you'd leave and enter a crowd of cheering level 60s-70s. -The feeling of not knowing your way around. There was no World Map or anything. You had to explore everything on your own, and it was actually an adventurous game. Some more, but those are some I feel were taken away from the game.
