I was at my friends house, and for some reason he had some Magnesium. I said to him, lets go burn it! so we go outside, and use this stuff, its like a dried fuel, so it burns long and hot, so we light that, and start playing with the magnesium and i wanted some pictures of the fire and the Magnesium burning and well...... See for yourself, it kinda freaked my buddy and i out.

Looks like you got scared there, haven't you seen it before? We used to burn it in chemistry class in school.

On topic:

I can't really form a skull out of that but I think I can see something that looks similar to a mouth on the lower part of the flame. The picture isn't extremely good but could have been a lot better if you just were still.

Scared about what? ive played with magnesium before, the only reasons our hands were so far back is cause it was REALLY hot. And the picture was taken with my cell phone and i was all shaky that day from energy drinks :P

Awesome, I can easily see it... not really sure how anyone would not be able to. #-o

Magnesium is a highly flammable metal, but while it is easy to ignite when powdered or shaved into thin strips, it is difficult to ignite in mass or bulk. Once ignited, it is difficult to extinguish, being able to burn in both nitrogen (forming magnesium nitride), and carbon dioxide (forming magnesium oxide and carbon). On burning in air, magnesium produces a brilliant white light. Thus magnesium powder (flash powder) was used as a source of illumination in the early days of photography. Later, magnesium ribbon was used in electrically ignited flash bulbs. Magnesium powder is used in the manufacture of fireworks and marine flares where a brilliant white light is required.

Just some tiny facts. It`s all right here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium :)

I've burned some magnesium strips in chemistry before, it can burn really white if you get a thin strip and not so large of a flame.

Try getting some potassium, it burns purple =D

Or some pure sodium, throw it in a bucket of water and run.

(Sodium is really reactive, even bottle-cap size would cause a deafening bang and send specs of sodium flying fast enough to hit a ceiling from the ground. I found this out when my chemistry teacher demonstrated this inside our class room and it nearly knocked down the projector.)

We also went outside with a mole day project (it was composed of a large Styrofoam ball) and a bucket of water, then our teacher put a golf ball sized chunk into the bucket (flimsy plastic) and put the ball on top. The bucket broke and water splashed everyone, the ball shot off sideways and set hot pieces of Styrofoam onto our clothes (they like melted on to them) and some sodium hit my arm and right under the teacher's eye.

he was a pretty kick [wagon] teacher.
