Soccerdudety
Well, it will cost you nothing! Buy 2k coal and 1k iron to start. Buy 1k nature runes, and wield a firestaff. Cast superheat ore, and make steel bars. You will actually profit, while getting smithing xp, and magic xp. Mage xp is 50k / hour, while smithing xp is 30k/hour. It will take a while, but you will draw even / profit Cheers : MY RUNESCAPE GOALS

Yomyth105
These folks above me are right on the money (for the most part). sorry to hijack the topic, but i also needed help getting my magic up in f2p to 59 from 42. i just now could cast superheat and i was wondering about a few things. i computed everything and i found that the least possible profit u will make from this will be in the negatives. so... i was wondering at wat price would it be best to buy all of the supplies needed at wat price is it good to buy: nats iron ore and coal

I like alching best, buy green d hide bodies and adamant plates and alch them, usually about 10-20 gp loss per alch. So about 15gp/65xp. Edit: Just calced that if you super heat addy bars at mid price everything you lose 1 gp per bar. Does it really matter whether I was right? #-oThis is Tipit. ilovecardj
You lose money super heating steel bars, that last poster was wrong. If you have 50 smithing, super heating mithril bars is a better option. Your only other option f2p is high alch, or curse but i dont recommend cursing personally. All will cost you money. If you are good with movement, run back and forth to the air altar making air runes, while high alching. you will break even/make profit with a decent runecraft level Dragon Drops: 80+ boots, 7 med, 3 skirt, 2 left half, 2 Spear, 2 2hSlayer: 30+ whips, 4 Bows, 1 Mask, 3 Granite Legs, 1 Visage (Wyverns)Notable GWD Splits: Bandos Tassets: 12, Bandos Chest: 11, Bandos Hilt: 2Proud Slayer of 99 Att/Str/Def/HP/Range/Summoning

lifeisanMMO
lol, i superheat steel bars for profit, except i mine half of all the coal needed if you really want to make a profit on anything, you need to do some resource gathering, otherwise you will lose money superheating 1k steel bars in 1 hour is impossible, believe me, i superheat 1k of steel bars at a time before selling, you have to constantly bank, its extremely annoying, boring and time consuming, to break boredom, i always play a game or two fist of guthix between every 100 or 200 bars, it's not efficient, but hey, its fun and you can buy some f.o.g. items and sell for profit

Mageduckey
I like alching best, buy green d hide bodies and adamant plates and alch them, usually about 10-20 gp loss per alch. So about 15gp/65xp. On Green D-Hide bodies, you pay 10K+ to get them, then you high alch them for 4680. On Addy Plates, you pay 16K+ and high alch them for just under 10K. And, you can sell Steel bars for 650 easily at the GE, while only paying 75gp per iron ore, and 135-140 for coal. And let's just say that you can buy Natures for 250 (since I haven't bought any, I don't know the exact price at the GE). So, 140 x 2 = 280 + 75= 355 + 250 = 605. 650 - 605 = 45 income per bar superheated. -------- So, how is this losing money?

Also, you're making up those bar/ore prices. There's no free trade anymore, you know? Accurate figures: No I'm not. From the Champion Guild stores, according to Tip.It, they are the numbers I said. Now, from other players the price is definitely lowered, but then you depend on people's stocks of Green D-Hide bodies and Addy Plates (which they usually need to make to get profit from, unless they get them as drops/prizes), whereas coal and iron are always being mined/sold. And I am not making up the bar/ore prices. Go check out the GE. You can sell Steel Bars for 650, easily. I just sold 600 of them for 650 per, and they sold in less than an hour. Also, the average price on the GE for iron ore is 75-80 gp, while coal is 135-140. There's no free trade anymore, you know? Who said anything about free trade? Mageduckey
and how are you gonna get that hes f2p so its a 3k trade limit those are at least 25 gp off the real price of iron and 50-60gp off the price of coal and no1 buys steel bars at max so that whole calc fails You CAN buy coal, iron, and nature runes as F2P, and you're using the GE, not personal trade. Also, those prices are not atleast 25 gp off for iron and 50-60 gp off for coal. I just bought/sold some not too long ago, using the GE. Lastly, 650 is NOT max. for steel bars. It is a couple gp over the average/market value.

The medium price on the g/e is 180ea, min is 171. That means you can't trade them for 135-140ea, even if you wanted to, unless you're going to buy them from random people every 15 minutes. Also, there's an almost infinite supply of green bodies/addy plates, even at minimum price, as a lot of people make loads of them to level their crafting/smithing. As for selling the bars at 650ea, that could be true. Lets say we buy everything at min and sell the bars at max, 650ea. Iron ore = 95gp Coal = (2 x 171) or 342gp Nature rune (they aren't really buyable at min, but whatever) = 230ea Total = 667gp. Steel bar = 650gp. So even that way, you don't make money. Also, medium prices for those items as of today: Iron - 99ea Coal - 180ea Nature rune - 342ea Steel bar - 621ea Sorry to say it, but your figures are off. Really off. Mageduckey
how long ago was this bud Sorry, it was only 2 weeks ago. I didn't think that they changed the GE since then. Sorry guys. Hey, you can still profit, though not much. If you mine the iron ore yourself (which is a tad timeconsuming, but doesn't require a high skill and there's plenty of it around), you only pay ~602 for the resources to make one bar, and sell in for ~630. Not as much, which is probably why the reduced the sell prices and raised the buy prices. Darn change...
