Dont overburden me with too much anime. Just two or three must see suggestions.

I've already seen Melancholy. It was good.

As for Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, I haven't. I'll add that.

Thanks.

Why Vampire + Rosario? I didn't think generic harems were must see animes...

Alright, I finished Lain. My initial reaction is still the same. I'm somewhat in a daze about it, it's weird. I understand it now, and I understand what it's about now, but I don't know how to sum up what I feel about it. It's amazing, I loved everything in it, but man even after reading the Wikipedia entry on the series it's still sort of confusing.

Great recommendation though.. it's going to be tough to follow up on for whatever I watch next.

You should totally watch Monster.

Yeah do this. (even though I haven't seen it yet)

Also, Texhnolyze. Very much so.

I'll watch both of those.

Harem anime is so bad most of the time. I would rather play the games or whatever they're based on.

Been watching Fate/stay Night and all I can say is: ****ing AWESOME. I love fantasy stuff as a rule, but it's so great - way better than the game. The FSN game was pretty boring: it seemed as if the translators had a lot to prove by being overly verbose and throwing in out-of-character big words all the time.

Texhnolyze has the same artist that Lain did behind it. So does Haibane Renmei. Seriously, the guy is a genius at making emotional, thought-provoking art.

It would help me immensely if I knew your tastes. So I ask: what sort of thing are you looking for?

Also I should say that I liked how little dialog there was in Lain. It's annoying when an anime tries to be "smart" by just throwing around a lot of big words. It also really helped up the tension a lot. :P

Question though,

[hide=question]About her parents, I know they wern't really... her parents right. But were they all just acting it or were they actually a family, that is, the mom/dad and sister? I mean they left the house before everything got rebooted and she erased herself from everyone's memory (making it so as if she never lived) and the rest of them lived just like a normal family.[/hide]

Yeah. I loved the ambience of Lain too.

[hide=My interpretation of Lain]I feel as if Lain was much to do with the way technology is causing people to seperate from society - hence the split personality of Lain. It's as if being connected to the Wired had destroyed her completely - she became a God and ended up completely detatched from reality in her own delusional world. I felt the whole message of the series was something of a warning (as in 1998, computers were only just breaking into everyday household use) as to what the futures of technology held.

As for your question: I don't think they are. They seemed so distant and plaintive (until her sister got stuck in between the Wired and human world) that I highly doubt that they were actually a real family. It has been a long while since I watched it though, so I can't really answer you for sure on that one. I'll rewatch it sometime soon and take your point into consideration whilst doing so.[/hide]

Another thing I got from it was the "everything is relative" vibe. Everything was connected to something else.

I'm currently just blasting through Code Geass. I've watched the entire first series and I'm on R2 episode 13 and I only started watching it on Friday. It's got me hooked just like Death Note. I can see why they can be compared, DN is still better though I think.

I'm promised to watch K-On! next, and I really really really am meaning to watch Lain.

I'm bored so I'm reading Inuyasha again. :? It's still alright, it's just that I need something more violent and brutal to read. Shamo or whatever ended up boring me. I guess Vagabond is next.

Are you serious? Shamo bored you? It has great character development, and the artwork is incredible. How far did you end up reading?

I got to chapter 27 or something...the characters were fine, and the artwork was really clean, I just couldn't get into it enough. It was kind of slow for me.

Some senseless violence, good interesting dialogue. A certain degree of graphic intensity and humor.

Kind of like Melancholy but with people dieing.

Come to think of it, Melancholy and FullMetal Alchemist along with some other shameful choices [which I wont mention] is all that I've watched in the anime spectrum.

So I dont really, fully know.

Outlandish plotlines and fantasy is a plus. But not too streched and inane that I can't follow.

You'd love Baccano! , really fun anime to watch and really [bleep]ing violent at times.

[hide=My thoughts]I had the same kind of thoughts after I finished. It did seem like it was a warning.

And yeah I didn't think they were but the scene after the reboot confused me since they continued to act like a "normal" family. Although I did like how even though lain removed herself completely from everyones memory that they still faintly remembered her. Her "dad" looked over at the empty chair where lain sit, and Auryia (sp?) I think faintly remembered her too. The ending was pretty interesting, with them meeting again. I kind of like how Auryia was a teacher seeing a student as well =P

I do feel like I could probably spend a while trying to think what different parts were all about but it's probably better just to take it all in as one message :P[/hide]

Pretty much meets your tastes.

It never ceases to amaze the sheer number of anime "out there". I presume some of the things you watch - Racheya in particular - would be considered on the fringe, even within anime circles.

I mean, I haven't about 90% of the stuff you guys talk about.

Only ones I know, are the mainstream ones, like Bleach and Naruto. And the more obscure series, I have only been introduced to by my friends.

I recommend Fate/stay Night. Very much so a fantasy/mythological anime with plenty of violence, but the fights aren't senseless. Also, Baccano! is definitely to your tastes.

Same here. I have heard of most mainstream ones, never heard of a lot of these...

Has anybody seen Vampire Hunter D? It is a really old movie, but it is pretty good. They also made Bloodlust, but that wasn't the best book to base a movie on IMO.

Downloading Monster and Texhnolyze right now. Can't believe monster is [bleep]ing 74 episodes long, haha. Will end up watching Texhnolyze first I'm sure. Man, I'm sure that my service provider hates me now though -- I've downloaded a good 50-60GB of torrents in, like, a week.

I'm sort of putting off watching Toppa, not sure if I'd be too into it or not after reading the wiki.

I think it's overrated garbage. Ridiculous plot and the whole thing felt like it was trying too hard.

That said, you might like it.

Also, Fate/stay Night gets better each episode. I stopped watching after the first 3 for some unknown reason, but now I've watched 10 or so episodes in the past couple of days. The characters in it are unbelievably good, and the fight scenes are beautifully done. There is nothing ugly about this series at all.

I watched Gurren Laggan last night on Sci-Fi. I didn't know it was by Gainax! I might have to finish watching it now.

Yeah I kind of assumed that. I'll have to download Fate/stay Night too, even though Texhnolyze and Monster are going to keep me busy for a good long time. Also I didn't think it was possible but Texhnolyze seems more confusing than lain was.
