Is this in the last month? you didnt give details. The thing is though there have been anomolous sales, crazy stuff like PS3 outselling Wii in one month. So it depends where this conclusion was drawn from.

 

 

 

Its probably because FF13 is on 360, so people who didnt want to splash out on a PS3 are buying a 360 to play it because its cheaper, because they're not really interested in the other exclusive games for the systems because they're a casual gamer, but a fan of FF. Within the next couple of months the PS3 will probably be outselling the 360 again, with the Wii outselling both.

 

 

 

Im not saying this is deliberate flamebait, but people are likely to come on here defending PS3, which will most likely lead to a liberal use of the word "fanboy".

You throw away the AAA title more than I do. Of that list, the only exclusives I forgot about were Animal Crossing (I didn't know it was coming out this year) and Killzone 2 (which isn't even coming out this year).

Guitar Hero and Call of Duty are two of the top franchises in the world right now, MotorStorm sold over 3 million copies, WotLK is a guaranteed multi-million seller, and Spore is quite likely to be aswell. SOCOM and PoP are multi-million selling series. And hey, I forgot Resistance 2 (PS3), which is the successor to a game that sold over 2 million copies and is one of the biggest PS3 franchises. The Animal Crossing series has also sold millions (and as the Wii's biggest game of the fall, I wouldn't be surprised to see it be the best selling title in the series yet) and Fallout 3 is the hyped next title from the makers of Oblivion which was somewhat of a phenomenon (and FO is one of the most beloved cRPG series of all time).

 

 

 

Gears might end up the biggest game (save maybe WotLK), but there are other enormously popular games. And since Guitar Hero and CoD5 are mutli-platform, there's a very good chance they will sell as good or better. Plus, you never actually said the only AAA exclusive, IRC.

My definition is a system seller. Animal Crossing for the Wii would move the Gamecube owners who hasn't bought the Wii yet. Not to mention it really caters to the crowed Nintendo is targetting. Killzone 2 is a title for the PlayStation with all the hype along with it. The only reason why Resistance sold so much is because it was one of the few decent games when the PS3 came out. SOCOM is another *possible* contender... but honestly? You never hear of that series as often.

 

 

 

For Sony: Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Grand Tourismo, Final Fantasy, ... SOCOM? LBP? Resistance? Not really.

 

 

 

For Nintendo: Zelda, Mario Bros., Metroid Prime, Mario Kart,

 

 

 

For Microsoft: Halo, Gears of War, Bioshock (when it was released at least). Mass Effect is my favourite 360 game and I wouldn't even consider the second one as an AAA yet. Maybe by the third.

 

 

 

Fallout 3, Rock Band, GH, aren't AAA to me because they're multiplatform. There's no special reason to buy one console version over another. Just because I say they aren't AAA doesn't mean they aren't great.

Sure GH4 might sell well, but if people already have Rock Band or a different GH game, I'm not sure if they'd be willing to shell out more money on it. COD5 will probably get some decent sales because of how popular COD4 was, but I doubt it'll outsell Gears. Moving back to WWII probably alienated a lot of fans of COD4, and while they do share some similarities (built for the masses, no recoil on the guns, perks), the odds of another WWII game (by Treyarch as well) outselling a huge AAA title like Gears is slim.

The only non-360 game I'm looking forward to playing is LittleBigPlanet (looks VERY promising), but it isn't very well commercialized not to mention Spore will bury it to oblivion. But still, that is a sweet-looking game.

Halo 3 sold 8 or so million copies and it was released last year. With a larger installed base, 5 mil isn't impossible although it's quite unlikely.

Gears of War sold more than 4 million copies in total and that's a new IP.

 

 

 

AAA titles are high-budget games that could be exclusive or non-exclusive that carries a lot of hype (ie. I only consider a game to be AAA if it's an exclusive). For example, 360's Halo 3, PS3's MGS4, Wii's Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Mario Galaxy.

I only consider a game to be AAA if it's an exclusive.

Good exclusives are a dying breed. If you consider that many games (from your list) coming out as AAA in just one season, then I don't think there's a point in calling them AAA to begin with. Maybe AA only :P

Let's play the game first before we make conclusions that it's AAA and above the rest of it's competition. You can't really base it off of a handful of trailers
