Also we could just have Africa History Month in February in addition to Black History Month, that way we don't take away the guilt trip extravaganza (my own opinion here) and upset any one, we just add some more stuff to it. I think it's not being taught right, Day after day it's slavery this, and slavery that on PBS, so much is being focused on the negative I just can't watch it. I though they where supposed to talk about Black heroes like the man who invented the Oil Cup for locomotives... I can't even remember his name.

Black history month is one of the most pointless ideas ever, if we have to sit through one month of watching every new network(even FOX) play famous blacks in history, blah, blah blah. I think it is just a way to make whites feel bad about they treated blacks.

I think the important thing to remember is that if you are white, even if your family came to America after the civil war and never owned slaves, you are responsible for slavery. Watch roots. You personally did that and you should be ashamed.

Why not ditch the whole black history altogether and make it 'Black Metal History' month, because no one really knows how many churches have been burnt by black metal bands/fans in the 3 decades!!!

Well to start it off, in Mr. Case's History class, he said and I quote;

But they aren't. It isn't the 60's. People are treated equally enough that we don't need any sort of history month.

I hate it when people say "every month is white male month" more than I hate people who say "every day is child day" (parents and grandparents get their own days, why not us? :P ) Our society is saying that we are striving for equality, yet blacks still have their own month of remembrance, which is okay, to a degree. When you see "black history" or "slavery" in the title of every tv show on the list, that's where I draw the line. BHM is at the point of people shoving it down our throats.

Every race has been discriminated against let's face it. If youre a white American and go down to Mexico don't be surprised if you hear the word "Greengo" a couple thousand times.

 

 

 

If youre an East Indian Hindu and you go to Muslim Pakistan, don't be surprised at the hostility you will encounter.

 

 

 

Need I go on? Let's face it; the human race is really good about putting other people into groups that they can mutually despise. The Scottish hated the English and Vice Versa; Sunnis hate Shiites; Catholics and Protestants where killing each other in Ireland during the Civil War.

 

 

 

So for some reason or another we humans find a way to hate our fellow man over some difference, sometimes so minor it just doesnt make sense. Why just Black History Month? Thats the question.

The biggest thing that strikes me,its black history MONTH,but its Pangaea DAY.They're prioritizing blacks not getting pissed over World Unity.Although Pangaea Day may be a "certain area's" idea.But isn't the Black History Month?

I never heard of Pangaea Day until now... sounds like a good idea really. Well from what I can gather it took place on May 10th, that's 2 months after BHM. BHM is in February. No Idea why I did not hear about this day before now, considering how much TV I watch.

We got allot of people agreeing that BHM needs changing, or to be removed altogether. I think that's why this topic pretty much died out, not enough arguments; too many people agreeing. How is it in other country's that had slavery? Do they take an entire month each year to remember all this stuff?

I don't really know what the BHM is, but I refuse "just Google it" because someone had to be too imperialistic to explain it in this topic. However, the little impression I have gotten from this tradition, is that it only leads to wining. It should rather be "Equality Month" or something, like Ginger said.
