September 7, 200817 yr I don't know off the top of my head, but I bet that by looking up the high alch price on tip.it and looking up the price of steel bars on the grand exchange (and maybe coal and iron too), and doing some addition you could find out

September 7, 200817 yr It is impossible to profit from alching plates no matter how you go about it. Make steel plates yourself from coal and iron, to bars to plates. Buy nats and theres a profit.

You could first: mine coal and iron make into bars smith alch you'd get a profit on that, but just alching from bar state will lose you money. Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again

So, making the platebodies loses him money. And alching does too.
September 7, 200817 yr If you don't want to do all that mining have your kingdom mine the coal for you. That will put you much closer to a break even point. As will runecrafting your own nats. I've done about 75% steel platebodies and 25% cannonballs before (with kingdom mined coal), which I figured gave me a very small profit.
September 7, 200817 yr high alch a different item because mining for your supplies will take long but will reward exp/slight bit of money buying bars and making steel plates is a waste of money
September 7, 200817 yr Lots of people make steel plate bodies for very fast smithing exp, I think its one of the fastest efficient methods in the game (obviously mith/addy/rune plates would be faster but that is seriously expensive) so there are a lot lying about and alcing is the best way to get rid of them.
September 8, 200817 yr I'm f2p, and I've smithed steel bars to get my lvl up to 79 right now. The ppl above me are absolutey right in that you lose lots of money and smithing addy just is too time consuming. If others can offer better solutions for f2p I'm all ears!
September 8, 200817 yr I don't think you're going to make a profit, so you should sell your bodies or whatever else you're making. If you want the magic xp, you'd be better off to use your nats and superheat while you're mining. This saves time especially if the bank is far away ;) And if you're gonna superheat steel, I'd bring 18 or more iron ore with you and just mine and superheat until you can do mithril.
