September 17, 200817 yr I have this project I am working on, since about 2 or 3 months ago. It is a tcg. I call it Shaman. In it, there are 7 World Arts (Types of cards, like Elements and stuff.) and each world art has a few sub arts. Every deck can only have 1 world art and 2 sub arts, each with there own style. And no, it does not just involve dice, it involves... Sticks. You would drop them onto a mouse pad sized circle from around 7 inches off. There would be 4 stick to drop at a time, each one meaning 2 things, unless a played card says otherwise. the closer the sticks land to the middle, the better. Every time you play out a familiar, you must drop sticks, to determine their stats, which will be modified by the familiars modifier, which will be said on the card. Every world art has a Familiar sub art, which you have to use if you want to create familiars. No, for once in a tcg, your creatures are NOT your main means of offense, unless you choose to have Familiar as one of your 2 sub arts. Every Familiar and Player has stats, and stat modifiers. Reflex, Power, Protection, Sight, Speed, Life, Resistance, and Transparency. Ya, I'm trying to make a complex game. A player would have there stats modified depending on their main art, which would be a set number. Reflex determines if a familiar can dodge an attack. To find out if you can, you must also look at the enemy familiar's (or player's) speed. The reflex must be 3 more higher than the enemy speed. The spell cards are by far more complicated than familiars. a Spell has a Main art type, sub art type, sub-sub art type, its own damage (or healing) modifier, and its base damage and/or healing. Heres what i'm asking you guys...: Think it could get anywhere on the market? Published by Wizards of the Coast or other major tcg company? PS: Intellectual property of me. AND I HOPE FOR IT NOT TO EVER SELL OUT TO SOME CRAPPY SHOW. Oh god. I'm so proud of this idea that I've already looked for game publishers and read all I need to know. September 17, 200817 yr In all honesty, any TCG will work if it's well thought out. As for feedback, all i can really say is you seem to have thought it through a ton, which is good, but I think the best way to help is draw ALOT of diagrams, and redraw tons of changes, etc. Diagrams help, alot. When you have all the changes, Try printing up 2 decks of it (probably 2 of the same to make it easier, ) and play it with a friend and see if the gameplay works well.. Playing it with decks a few times will be your BEST way to come up with the right changes IMO. EDIT: And about the trying to get published, you can if you keep trying. In addition to the testing 2 decks with a friend, you might want to make multiple decks (like I said before, make prints, they dont even have to be finalized, just rough things of what a card would look like), and have as many friends as you can see it, and see what they think about it, and ask around what anyone thinks. The more people that like it, the better your chances. No, Ill admit it isn't the best advice, however I have no ideas towards the main design (to each is his own, everyone has their own ideas on what it should be like). So ya if you needed any testing advice I was helpful  the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming. 635th to 99 Farming 12/16/07
September 17, 200817 yr Tbh it sounds kinda cool, but the above post is right. Work it out a lil more, and play it with a friend. Gl on getting this published :)
September 17, 200817 yr Author Thanks man, my heart was beating FAST when i saw someone post, I somewhat didn't want to know what the poster was going to say, but it was something good :D Thank you, Dragons_Might, and Mrmegakirby :D I've already come up with a rough sketch up of the game, which I am still working on. Right now I'm dealing with Player Modifiers. Perhaps i'll put out some sort of beta version on tip it for all you guys to try out :P sort of like a sneak peek :D Oh yeah, and I've thought of taking babies and throwing them. September 17, 200817 yr Good luck dude. I used to make random tcg's for fun.. and they really were enjoyable to just sit and doodle/write up. But yes like I said, when making diagrams are probably very important to help you out, and testing is a main key, just because it's like being Quality assurance.. see if everythings going right and what needs tweaking. Hope you have good luck with it, and alot of fun as well  the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming. 635th to 99 Farming 12/16/07
September 17, 200817 yr Also, if you do get this published, ffs, no TV show. Tv=BIG turn off. *thinks back to yu-gi-oh*.
September 17, 200817 yr Also, if you do get this published, ffs, no TV show. Tv=BIG turn off. *thinks back to yu-gi-oh*. True right here. Think about it. Yu-gi-oh. Pokemon. Digimon. (those 3 off the top of my head). They last what.. 5 yrs max? Now in TCG terms.. look at something like.. MTG? no tv shows.. and its been around forever... the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming. 635th to 99 Farming 12/16/07
September 17, 200817 yr Author omg i was just about to edit my main post to say that :D I FRIGGIN HATE SELLOUT STRATEGY GAMES, (Yes, YOU, yu-gi-oh) And MTG will NEVER get old. I play it :) None of my dads friends can stand the wrath of my kithkin deck :ugeek: Oh yeah, and I've thought of taking babies and throwing them. Yu-gi-oh got most of its out of Japan publicity through the terrible dubbing known as 4Kids. Usually its the other way around, if there is a TV show, no trading card game. An anime based on a card game works to some extend, such as Yu-gi-oh and Duel Masters. But then anything works for an anime doesn't it? September 17, 200817 yr Author Er... i have a diagram made for the Familiar card... but imageshack is bumming out on me again... also, the diagrams file size is 666 KB :P Oh yeah, and I've thought of taking babies and throwing them. September 17, 200817 yr im very impressed with the amount of thought you have put into this, i dont even know what a tcg is but good on you for trying something and commiting yourself to it. however publishers can be ruthless, but because you so obviously enjoy this kind of thing and you believe in your product i can see that you may sell it on the strength of your enthusiasm. anyway good luck!
September 17, 200817 yr Just remember not to pull a MTG and Ban whole sets of cards every 3 or 4 months, you know when the official tourneys start. People hate spending $1000+(made up number) a year to play a game. If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.
September 17, 200817 yr Author scoot, im not sure if i will have a say over that :( if i have a say, it will depend on the cards in the sets. and no, its not just in MTG. September 18, 200817 yr Have you got the formulas worked out? Has every possible move been tryed and tested for faults? It sounds to me like you're over-complicating things a little. September 18, 200817 yr I was almost certain pokemon (the TV show) was around before the card game? Anyways hope you have fun, I very much doubt it's going to go anywhere though (especially getting published...). But if you're having fun why not? I remember trying to make my own TCG back in 6th grade.

September 19, 200817 yr Wha...? Where did the sudden OT trading card fad come from? First the funny picture thread, then a thread on your favorite TCG, now this... It's not that I'm annoyed, I'm just curious. Anyway, I doubt you'll get far unless you got the connections. If you happen to know some people from, say, UpperDeck or other major trading card companies, you can get the hook up you need to get a trading card game. Although you'll also need connections with publicity, finding good places to advertise and stuff. Local bulletin boards might get a handful of sales locally, but if you want anything remotely close to success you'll need some form of major advertising. Maybe a website. Maybe pay for a TIF ad. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers.
