Eck! I've restarted my computer to see if it was just an error of sorts and it's still comming up as nothing, I've also tried safe-mode and with no luck... :|

 

 

 

 

 

What's going on?

open notepad

 

type in the following code (assuming your using the folder in the pic, otherwise change it to the right one)

 

cd C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Desktop\This isnt good

dir

pause

 

click file > save as

 

navigate to somewhere you want it to save that you can remember (such as your desktop) and save it as something.bat, or anything with a .bat at the end (batch file)

 

in the save as type box, make sure all files is selected

 

click save

 

close the file in notepad

 

navigate to where you saved it and double click it.

 

allow it to run if any security messages pop up etc

 

dont have the window selected when you press a key or you will have to run it again (even though that wont matter)

 

 

 

It will list all the contents of that directory in a command prompt window thingy like these shown below:

 

A folder will look like this:

Date^ Time^

 

 

 

A file will look like this:

 

19/09/2008 01:40 PM 697 anotherFile.txt

 

Date^ Time^ 697_bytes_in_size^ file_name(anotherFile.txt)^

 

 

 

if there is nothing listed then i don't know what is going on.

have a look at the pictures. the properties of the folder say it is 64kb in size, but there is nothing in it. It isnt a hidden file because he has show hidden files enabled, so he doesn't know where the 64kb is coming from.

Try displaying the system files for that folder. Also did you make or rename the file?

I'll be honest, but, is this actually hurting anything? I don't think in any world 64.5KB is going to be some sort of big deal.

After reading all of the thread so far, my opinion is that there is a rootkit on your PC, Captainkidd... :( ... Only way I can think of that you're going to kill it is with a proper antivirus. Only proper antivirus that I can think of that will do that? NOD32. :geek:

In Windows, two files, but nothing's showing? In a Command Prompt, it acts like nothing's there? A technique that is used by rootkits is to hide files that are vital to the program, and/or files that are being targeted. So, there is also a chance that something else is hidden, as well as any running processes from the rootkit. :|

 

 

 

Also, you will notice with how I spoke in my last post that even I am not 100% certain that this is the case. I just think that this is the most likely possibility. -.-
