They still are at the moment. They just came out with a new one 2 days ago.

Crap, just saw your other thread about how you own a ps3, thus making half my post irrelevant.

I had a piece of grass on my shoe, and she wiped that off. Yeah. Impressive, eh? That's probably the closest I've ever been to having sex. :P

The PS2 is the best selling console in history. Why stop making games for it?

maybe because theres the playstation 3 now, and the xbox 360 and the wii, i think they should keep making them though

the only PS2 games i see advertised are like Buzz and Singstar and movie games

A Dreamcast game still wanders out of some corner of the earth every once in a while, and that's been discontinued for 7+ years. The PS2 is still getting new console SKU's, and has sold over 5 million consoles this year worldwide, just slightly fewer than the 360 (and more than half of what the DC sold in it's entire life). In the last few weeks, Mercenaries 2, Force Unleashed, Lego Batman and Yakuza 2 have been released, as well as a new SingStar (first party!). And those are just the notable releases.

First party support and console production show no signs of slowing down. It is unlikely, but possible that Sony might stop producing first-party titles sometime in 2009, and third-party titles will likely slow down. But I would be very surprised PS2 games aren't still being released years from now.

There are plenty of good games on the PS2 that will keep you occupied until Sony hunts you down and forces you to buy a PS3.

Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Kingdom Hearts....

That'll be scary. :ohnoes: Wake up with a guy next to my bed softly whispering "you want a ps3", over and over again. I'll just be like " :uhh: "

Expenses and general views of each console individually is why the Ps2 is still a great hit.

Thats a terrible notion, you release games on systems which will give the maximum reach to the audience and ps2 is still the selling at least a hundred thousand units a month and its by far the biggest selling console at about 130 million units?yeah it amkes absolute sense to release youre game on ps2, if at least to attract the "wal-mart crowd"

They did it to the PS1, so I'd give it a 99.99% chance they'd stop making games for the PS2 at some point. It'll be a gradual thing though, you'll probably still be able to buy new games for a year or two yet.

Dreamcast? I haven't even seen one for what...almost ten years now! Wasn't even that popular to begin.

OT : Of course they'd have to stop production sometime, all good things have to come to an end eventually. (Windows XP anyone?)

Yeah dreamcast games are still in production and development in japan, there mainly from design students though because Sega distributes a lot of dev kits in the game design schools in japan.Thats the general reasoning from sega in a kotaku story i read.
