eggzs
1)What time are you download, if its at night, the speed will slow down due to being peak time or if you have used your usage limit for the month, your speed will be capped until you pay for more data or wait till the end of the month. 2)The language pack could be something like this, im not too sure. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suite ... 61033.aspx
RSBDavid
To answer your first issue, try running disc clean-up and refresh your ip. [hide=How to refresh IP]Go to Start > Run and type in "ipconfig /release" Now go back to Start > Run and type "ipconfig /renew"[/hide] . Like the first responder said, you might be overdue on usage if you are using broadband. WTH is a language pack and where do I get it? -A language pack is a translation of software. For example, JRE comes with 23MB of optional lanugage packs for multilingual support. These can show the program in languages such as: German, French, and Spanish. If I didn't help you much, just wait for Mr. DV to post. [software Engineer] - [Ability Bar Suggestion] - [Gaming Enthusiast]
Makoto_the_Phoenix
1. I'm trying to download a 171MB file. My download speed is 2MB/sec, but when I start the download, it goes down rapidly. The speed is now currently 30kb/sec -.- Does anyone know what happened? To begin, your download speed is probably not 2MB (read: megabytes) per second. At best, it's about 2Mb (read: megabits). [Yes, there is a difference. There is a huge difference. Go look it up on Wikipedia. ;)] But, I think I know what's up -- I kind of suffer from the same problem. More or less, it could not be on your end at all -- I have a 7Mb connection, and depending on what I download, I can achieve speeds between 90.5Kb to 705Kb. My belief is that it's the connection between you and your server, meaning one of two things: 1) Either they're not equipped to handle the level of bandwidth you're using, or 2) They've put download caps on their own server to reduce the bandwidth they give you at any one time. Many servers will do that. 2. I tried installing CNC3 on my laptop. But when the installer starts, all I get is "Please install at least one language pack". WTH is a language pack and where do I get it? When in doubt, go to the official site and poke around. But when the installer starts, all I get is "Please install at least one language pack". WTH is a language pack and where do I get it? 1. if your using firefox when you first start a downlaod the speed will be incorrect. this is because as soon as you choose to download a file firefox begins downloading data while your selecting what to do with it/where to save it. when you finally select everything and the download window opens it thinks the download started that instant, and doesn't include the time it took for you to choose your save location etc, so it thinks you downloaded a heap of data almost instantly and incorrectly calculates your download speed. this resolves itself after a few seconds if that is not your problem then it could likely be the server. just because you have the ability to download something at high speed doesn't mean that server can send you the data at the same speed. it could also be a problem with your connection, that you may or may not be able to fix (eg if you are in the middle of no where and the data has to travel down hundreds of kilometers of poor quality lines then you arnt going to have full speed) your isp may also be restricting the speed you have during peek usage hours to allow other users to also enjoy decent speed 2. the only thing i could think of it being is this (im not sure though, i have never used cnc3): im assuming you ahve win xp. down the bottom right of you task bar (bar at bottom of screen with start button on it) just to the left usually of the tray (where the time is displayed) should be a little thing saying EN or something. if it isnt there right click your task bar, scroll over tool bars and make sure language bar is selected im not exactly sure if its possible to have no language selected though, just a guess
sloter
It could be your ISP.

sohkmj1
Still looking for an answer. I couldn't find any english language packs, only those in other languages. And obviously, playing command and conquer 3 in spanish/french/any random language would suck, since I don't recognize those. By the way, in a totally unrelated question, where the tray icons are displayed, on a laptop, it would show a little battery. If it has a plug next to it, it would mean that it would be charging, right? But recently, when ever I plug it in, the "battery" next to the plug will show a cross on the battery, although the thing IS charging. It isn't really a problem, just curious. :)
thrash-boy
not sure about the battery problem but im assuming your problem is something like this: http://blog.hi-tech-sw.net/2008/09/29/l ... ecognized/
sohkmj1
Damn computer. I log on one fine day, click on IE, and it says something about it not being compatible with win32. At this rate, I'm going to have to change computers :( Oh well, I found a 4GB quad core for $1700 at a mall the other day... wonder if it's still there. D. V. Devnull
<<<Quote Snip>>> In any case, I still need an answer. Why did the computer delete the file during one of those system checks :( sohkmj1, I have to read you the "riot act" about something first... Please avoid ever editing your initial post, except to give a forwarding link to your most recent problem. Even then, never remove the original post text, as it can help others who come to read the thread later, thinking their solution may be inside. :shame: Now that I've gotten that piece of upset out... Are you sure the folder that was deleted was "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer", and not some other folder with a name close to it??? If you are sure it wasn't a folder with a similar name, then it may mean that Internet Explorer was severely damaged by a virus or something, and your system core detected it. To which case, I recommend grabbing a fresh install of Internet Explorer from the Microsoft website, providing that your request isn't redirected by a virus (that may be somewhere on your system at this moment) to some other site. Further, I recommend rapidly checking your computer with as many trustable AntiVirus and/or AntiSpyware programs as you possibly can, as this kind of problem would usually signal that there is a dangerous internet-crippling infection on your computer, which is growing slowly but steadily. :geek: (Bah... I know I'd probably have more to say, but it is late and I have a headache that is preventing sleep. :| ... Further, I really hope that this problem isn't as bad as I am thinking it is! :( ...) ~Mr. D. V. "Danger, Will Robinson!" Pretty sure another error will pop up. Never ever delete IE on a windows machine. Explorer interlinks with Internet Explorer, removing one or the other will lead to lots of issues with Windows. Its less hassle to re-install the whole OS then it is to remove IE and fix all the problems you'll get from doing so. sohkmj1
Yeah, my computer just deleted the entire folder during one of those "you didn't turn off the computer properly" checks. Stupid thing. Bleah. Saw some other computers yesterday, all looked pretty good. There isn't much of a difference between a 2.66GHZ and a 2.33GHZ processor right? :)

Bleah. Saw some other computers yesterday, all looked pretty good. There isn't much of a difference between a 2.66GHZ and a 2.33GHZ processor right? :) you sound like my computer illiterate dad. as soon as its a few years old and trhe registrys crammed full of [cabbage] and the drives full of files that havnt been used in one and a half years and it has slow boot times, or it gets a virus from my brothers many adventures downloading unsafe things of all descriptions in his own time, its time to throw it out and fork out the $$$ for a new rig. well the fact is that isnt true. chances are there is nothing wrong with your computer that cant be fixed by backing up the files you want (i recommend MozBackup btw, it done a great job of saving all my firefox saved passwords and history etc. only works on Firefox though) and reformatting. judging by your posts and computer knowledge and the problems your having i would say reformatting would be the thing to do. I reformatted a few weeks ago and after i was done reinstalled all the things i was using etc and currently have 99GB of my 142 (well 160 but windows doesn't recognize it all) free. before i was struggling to find enough space to install anything else. i honestly don't know exactly where it all went. BlueLancer
Not really on topic, but like my A+ teacher said, running Vista with 1GB RAM is choking it. It runs much better at 2GB. I run Vista Ultimate on my 1GB desktop, and it runs like a piece of crap especially if multi-tasking while gaming. I'm not exactly a hardcore gamer but it's annoying when you minimize a game screen and it takes about 20 seconds for the OS to respond to anything at all (after the computer has been on for a while). Oh well, I found a 4GB quad core for $1700 at a mall the other day... wonder if it's still there. Unless it's a laptop, or a desktop with multiple graphics processors, nothing is worth $1700. You can get very high-end prebuilt gaming rigs for $1k if you want to spend money (alienware excluded, their prices are through the roof), for even less if you build it yourself. Do the math for an AMD/Intel quadcore processor, 4gb of RAM, a medium sized hard-drive plus a motherboard, power supply & casing. The price doesn't come even near $1700, a lot of that price consists of transport, assembly fees, middle-man salaries, plus greed.
