October 10, 200817 yr Defense of the Ancients (often referred to as DotA) is a custom scenario for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. The objective of the scenario is to destroy the opponents' "Ancient". The two teams' ancients are heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". As in role-playing games, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission. Defense of the Ancients pits two teams of players against each other: the Sentinel and the Scourge. Players on the Sentinel team are based at the southwest corner of the map, and those on the Scourge team are based at the northeast corner. Each base is defended by towers and waves of units which guard the main paths leading to their base. In the center of each base is the "Ancient", a building that must be destroyed to win the game.[9][10] Each human player controls one Hero, a powerful unit with unique abilities. In Allstars, players on each side choose one of ninety-one heroes, each with different abilities and tactical advantages over other heroes.[11] The scenario is highly team-oriented; it is difficult for one player to carry the team to victory alone.[12] Nevertheless, some heroes, given enough time, can change the outcome single-handedly, while countering the opposing team's heroes. Defense of the Ancients allows up to ten players in a five versus five format and an additional two slots for referees or observers, often with an equal number of players on each side.[2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_of_the_Ancients (this is the source) http://www.dota-allstars.com It's not exactly a video game or a console, it's a mod for a computer game, but, I want to post this because I would like to see if anyone else on Tip.It plays DotA or plays in the leagues. Discuss the game here... your favorite heroes.. etc
October 11, 200817 yr I always hated DotA. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!

October 11, 200817 yr Author I play it kinda regularly, not very good at it. I got a couple mates who play competitively in a clan, though. Yeah, it takes awhile to get used to DotA and get good at it. Because there's so many heroes (there's like 93) and alot of items/recipes, it gets hard knowing whats good for what and how you use it correctly.
October 11, 200817 yr I've played Frozen Throne once or twice. I was dragged into a LAN party, lol. Although my friend who's supposed to be amazing at it and actually owns the game had to use cheats to beat us...

October 12, 200817 yr I used to play DotA when I played WC3. The majority of games were pretty bad due to bad team mates. One guy would die 8 times, not know how to farm properly, or just plain suck. The attitude of the players was also pretty bad. Eventually I just gave up. One of my favorite things to do though, was sneak past the creep waves with Clinkz and take out the tower and/or barracks. This usually had everyone freak out and scream BANNED though. I also liked using Huskar (The troll who threw spears) because many people thought they could kill me at half health. I usually got a good 5:1 K/D ratio. Other heroes I liked: Nerubian Assassin, Leshrac, Earthshaker, Templar Assassin, and Barathrum or whatever, the hero with the spirit walker model.
October 12, 200817 yr Of course DOTA has cheats...though I can't think of anything someone would use that wasn't maphack. I like DOTA because all my friends play it, but really it's more about playing a lot than actually being skilledd. It's very easy to understand and pull off the primary strategies, it's just very difficult to (as you said) wrap your head around all the characters and items. WC3 standard games are opposite: few simple items and units, but very complex strategy and micromanagement. Much harder to master.

WC3 standard games are opposite: few simple items and units, but very complex strategy and micromanagement. Much harder to master. DOTA has cheats.. sure... but maphack is pretty much the only one people use. Also, WC3 standard games are not hard AT ALL. This is coming from someone who has a 150 win Night Elf icon and a 25 win Human icon.... Oh and caxis, clinkz is fun to use, but he's so easy to kill. So very fragile and squishy... alot of people also use wind walk incorrectly and die (free gold for me) Barathrum kind of sucks, Nerubian assassin is good but if he's low leveled then you lost. earthshaker is a pain to master because fissure always does the opposite side block for you. My favorite heroes? The lich(kel'thuzad), Magina, Rhasta, Admiral Proudmoore (so imbalanced (NEW HERO)), Balanar, Ursa, Zeus, ana Jakiro.. There's probably more i like but i cant bother to list them all
October 12, 200817 yr Also, WC3 standard games are not hard AT ALL. This is coming from someone who has a 150 win Night Elf icon and a 25 win Human icon.... So...I have thousands of wins over the years, and countless icons, and I'm probably only slightly above average. Being pro at the regular game takes far more time, and there are so many more variables. It's much easier to control 1 unit than it is to control a whole army, while keeping your economy economy running. There's no comparison.

I agree wc3 standard games are harder but the way you said it, it kind of makes it sound like standard games are impossible compared to dota (which they are not)
October 12, 200817 yr Thats all my wow guild play when there not raiding...on vent "Hey guys where are you raids starting in 5? Sorry will be 10 minutes, playing DOTA" -.-
October 14, 200817 yr Author Thats all my wow guild play when there not raiding...on vent "Hey guys where are you raids starting in 5? Sorry will be 10 minutes, playing DOTA" -.- hehe.. DOTA is pretty addictive/fun. Btw, 6.56 came out today.
October 14, 200817 yr I thought we were still waiting for .55 to come out? I played the beta and liked it OK, and that was just a week ago... I'm just starting to get into DotA. Favourite hero atm is Pudge, one of my friends who plays him a lot is teaching me how to use him well, and I managed my first dominating spree ever a couple weeks ago (I was so proud - I know, noob rite? XD) I think I'll end up owning with him with some more practice. Other favourite heroes: Riki (Stealth Assassin), Lina Inverse (Slayer), Gondar (Bounty Hunter), and... those are all I can think of right now. Being immature is a part of being mature.
October 14, 200817 yr I used to play, but then the hosts got all [bleep]ory. Any host that didn't kick me for not being in America, kicked me for having 120 ping.
October 17, 200817 yr Author I used to play, but then the hosts got all [bleep]. Any host that didn't kick me for not being in America, kicked me for having 120 ping. 120 ping isn't bad, but if a game title said US or Canada (usually says us/ca) then it's your fault for joining. If it doesn't.. well.. i don't know that to tell you @klankaos: pudge is a decent hero, but my favorite has to be Lycanthrope/lycan. Really imbalanced hero...

October 23, 200817 yr Phantom Lancer/Admiral Proudmoore all the way!! Don't play online yet, hopefully will soon.
October 23, 200817 yr Author Phantom Lancer/Admiral Proudmoore all the way!! Don't play online yet, hopefully will soon. Admiral Proudmoore needs (another) nerf. X marks the spot range is pretty imbalanced and the cleave sword is really, really strong.
October 24, 200817 yr I agree, Admiral Proudmoore needs Nerfing, you know what I find funny though? his Ultimate sucks if you can't use it, which quite a few people can't...
October 25, 200817 yr I hate Dota. Lame #-o Nobody loves youu... ;) Being immature is a part of being mature.
October 28, 200817 yr I keep getting forced to play a Lich,so...strats? To be honest I'm always dragged into these everytime we hit the LAN shops.I'd much prefer 3-4 hours in CS with my closest friends against the rest of the shop, using only Magnums snipers. But well, yeah variety's good.Lich strats pl0x?=D. so i herd u liek devarts? If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".[hide=This's why I'm hot]The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".Amen, brother :lol:Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)amen Bruder!
