October 18, 200817 yr I am so learning Japanese and moving there now lol... ot: Why don't we have decent free internet when Japan gets like 10-20x what we have to pay for for free >.> -Made in Japan YOU! ATTEND TET EVENTS! CLICK HERE!
October 18, 200817 yr still, that is like 2 MB, and I barely get a quarter of that. And what's the difference between kilo and kibi. From what I believe/know/think/fail at is that kilo is 1024 in computers and is a capital 'K.' A kibi is 1000 and is a lowercase 'k.' I'm almost 100% sure I'm wrong on that though :P A byte is always 8 times larger than a bit, easy to remember without being nerdy (longer word, short word correspond to the reality). So if you have a 2mbit/s internet connection, you can download about 240 kilobytes per second.
October 18, 200817 yr Well,I would like to know then, because of some interwebs thing we bought,I always have 100Mbps.That be good? so i herd u liek devarts? If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".[hide=This's why I'm hot]The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".Amen, brother :lol:Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)amen Bruder! (german ftw)I'm invulnerable to everything, except Lenin and Dragoonson. That's impossible. I love people.[/hide]
October 18, 200817 yr I got 6341 KB for download 705 for upload. Is that good or bad? When you mentioned the Dragon Plates I had a sudden vision of a load of gangsters running around in fancy dress yealling "Grim Reaper in da hood!"
October 18, 200817 yr lol, finland. What do you mean? We're not exactly behind in technology, being the founding country of Linux and Nokia...
October 18, 200817 yr I got 6341 KB for download 705 for upload. Is that good or bad? Depends what you're using it for. If it's just to check emails, then bad - you're paying for way more than you need to. If you're asking me though, I'd say that's just better than average in terms of speed. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
October 18, 200817 yr I'm on the fastest internet the UK has to offer (I think), namely Virgin Media fibre optic, and all I'm getting is 5240 down, 706 up with all other programs closed.. I don't see why we can't just use the same technology that they use in Japan.... London has about 8 million people compared to Tokyo's 9 million people, not really that far apart. I don't get it.. what is stopping UK companies from introducing such mega speeds? Patented technology? Hey.
October 18, 200817 yr Tried the test, got 17000 upload and 4000 for the other one. I don't know much about computers so this thread might as well be in Chinese to me. But looking at that chart, it seems the US is far behind. I'm the kind of stupid American who thinks America tops the charts in virtually everything. I always knew the Japanese were a bit ahead in technology, but having such fast internet for FREE? Insane. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. I own. http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun.
October 18, 200817 yr Well,I would like to know then, because of some interwebs thing we bought,I always have 100Mbps.That be good? Likely, that's the ethernet card, which are usually 100/1000Mbps. It has nothing to do with your actual speed, which is capped by your service provider.
October 18, 200817 yr Yeah i've always lacked in upload speed anyway, whats new. I figured japan was faster but I never thought about cost. Ponies!
October 18, 200817 yr What do you mean? We're not exactly behind in technology, being the founding country of Linux and Nokia... Because Finland. I'm on the fastest internet the UK has to offer (I think), namely Virgin Media fibre optic, and all I'm getting is 5240 down, 706 up with all other programs closed.. I don't get it.. what is stopping UK companies from introducing such mega speeds? Patented technology? Im pretty sure Bulldog offers a 25MB/s connection, more than anything Virgin offers. And the fact of the matter is theres more of a market for faster internet over there. NEETs and Hikkis, mainly. Plus, since they develop most of the required technology for it over there, they can readily test it there. Its not much more than fibre optics, either. They probably dont want filthy amerikan gaijins getting their hands on their technology though.

The demand isn't high enough for the investment needed to build the infrastructure required for the "mega speeds" to be worth it.
October 18, 200817 yr YAY, my internet speed sucks \ Japenese internet speed is just ridiculous. Why even try with that idiot? Honestly, there is no point whatsoever. I'd get better replies if I argued with a tree stump.
October 18, 200817 yr So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be.
October 18, 200817 yr It's really not that fair of a competition. Japan has 50% of the U.S. population in an area 3% the size of the United States. If you took the population of the entire eastern half of the United States and them in one dense area, I'm willing to bet they would get a good connection. Fast connections are related the the quality and quantity of the underground cables, and you can't just have one good area. Either the entire network is advanced or the entire network isn't. In Japan one company could easily lay high performance cable for the entire island. Do you think it's easy or cheap to lay 100mbps cables across the entire United States? Who's going to pay for it? I'm not saying Japan isn't advanced, I'm just sick of hearing meaningless statistics from people obsessed with Asia, like "99% of Taiwan has cell phone coverage and the United States only has 68% coverage, wow the United States is so behind in technology!" Oh yea, because getting coverage to an tiny island is just like trying to get coverage to almost four million square miles included of terrain that includes 2 major mountain ranges, barren deserts, and vast uninhabited tundra. I'm also fairly sick of hearing how everything new and high tech is made in Japan. Yes Japan is amazingly advanced and intuitive, and yes Japan sells many consumer electronics, but the United States is by far the largest exporter of technology in the world. Yea, Japan sells the world headphones, TVs, speakers, and game systems; but its the United States that makes the world's CPUs, software, servers, and chipsets. Everything from flash memory, to the hard drive, to the internet itself was made by Americans (mostly). Trust me, I'm not saying "USA! USA! USA!", I just think some credit is due when credit is due.
October 18, 200817 yr Taiwan is still pretty damn awesome though. When you can build the tallest building in the world (It still is right? iIf the one in Dubai hasn't been completed yet...) in an earthquake zone, you definitely are not technologically behind. America's had its fair share of technological advances, Japan (And other east Asian countries) have had theirs. It's just that right now, [it appears that] the US is behind. Microsoft (And Apple...) are American-based, that counts for something. If 99% of Taiwan does have cell phone coverage, that's pretty amazing though - There's a pretty big mountain range down the middle, taking up over half of the island... As a whole country, yea, Taiwan has a huge advantage because of its size. (About the size of Maryland, with over four times as many people...) City-wise though, Taipei is the size of Chicago, and I'd say its in a lot better condition...(But that's partially because I'm extremely biased) I don't know though, I've yet to see TVs on taxis/public buses/subways yet in the US. Nor are there epic computer fairs and stores. I guess it's just the values that each country has - East Asians tend to focus on technology more, Americans...Don't. Edit: I probably should've mentioned (Since my post could've had the wrong implication), in general, I agree with you, Trapical.
