My novel is about...something. I've got characters, but the plot has not shown up yet; I have loads of caffeine (unless my roommate found and consumed it); I've never won before; and this is my third year.

I've head great ideas storming around my head lately, but I just don't have the time to compete. I might start preparing them in the summer, then editing them... But that wouldn't be as fun as hurried typing for 25 days.

I don't really have the time or energy to churn out a novel that size, but I wish the best of luck to anyone that's trying. : Also, the site was down, but on other forums it said that you don't really compete for prizes or anything. The site's always down the first couple of days, thanks to massive rushing. it dies down by the end of the first week.

 

 

 

But no, no prizes, and stories aren't displayed. Just a nice feeling of accomplishment.

Anyone who finshes their novel by the deadline is a winner and they're all displayed. Needless to say none are of great quality, since it's basically a hand-cramping ink-flying scribblefest. Only typed.

 

 

 

Which isn't my cup of tea to be honest. I'm too much of a perfectionist to fly through something like that with no deliberating or editing. And there's no way in hell I have the time any more.

Yeah, now they give you a paperback proof of the book, if you have 50,000 words or more. I think there's a company that works with them and is part of Amazon; they publish and distribute it for you on Amazon.

That's awesome. I might try doing this then; that'd be sweet to have a real copy of a book I wrote.

Yeah, it's just a proof that they give you at first, but I believe you can set up to get artwork and the like added for a public distribution on Amazon. Won't have the cover theatrics of John Grisham of course, but it'd still be fun.

You have 25 days (well, judging begins on November 25th) to write a 50,000 word (or longer) novel. If you do that, you win. And in recent years, you can have a small independent book publisher publish a paperback copy (actually a proof) for you. And if you pay them, they'll publish it for you and distribute it on Amazon (doubt it'd cost more than a hundred dollars, I need to look again).

 

 

 

I have a couple of ideas. Dunno if I should go the war route or how I see my future as being.

 

 

 

I wish I had a truly original idea. Just something like...Sliced bread :/

I managed to squeeze out a piece last year.

 

 

 

Not sure if I'm up for it this year, though.

The problem I have with the concept is that I just can't bring myself to squander a good idea on something that will turn out to be pretty much crap below the standard of even dime novels. And it's not worth writing at all if I'm not going to put time and effort into developing an idea that has potential.

Could always start one and then send it to them. Might even feel better than basically vomiting words on paper to be judged.

I might be partaking in it. I am busy enough as is, but if I have spare time, I might write. I just put a bet with my roommate saying I could get at least 25,000 words. I think I can get at least that, right?

No matter what I write about it always ends in Ninjas and car chases.

So where would to find more info on this? I almost want to try, but thats way to much writing in a short amount of time.

I tried it last year and found it to be too much pressure, I prefer writing at my own pace.

The pressure is what makes it fun! :P
