Get Firefox and get Adblock Plus.

That's against the rules:

http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewarti ... le_id=2396

I'm sorry but you don't get it. You want the pop up to go away but you don't want to block it. If you want it to go away you will block it. Jagex can't do anything if you block it. It is your PC not jagex.

I doubt we are supposed to encourage rule breaking on these forums, but ya at least get mozilla if you don't already have. And as far as the adds being in another tab...thats good because they won't lag you if they aren't on the screen(usually, except when it initially d/l the ad)

They would still lag you if you havea crapy computer. How am i really rule breaking telling him to get Adblock Plus. Is it a crime to have it installed and go to RuneScape.com? If that is the case Jagex is going to lose alot of money. I'm serious jagex like mind warps all of you.

That rule is the only one I don't understand how they can enforce/monitor.

The only methods they can use could easily be bypassed or get false readings.

If there monitoring by whether or not your viewing the ad;

What about if your at a cyber cafe or other monitored place which blocks such ads?

What if you don't have flash installed or can't install flash?

What about people with download caps?

etc, etc

There are too many variables for it to be a valid/enforceable rule IMO.

Before anyone says I'm encouraging others to break this rule or any other, I'm not. This is merely my view on this rule.

If a mod feels they want to edit, delete or do anything to this post feel free.

Jagex does not monitor wether you have the ads or not. I played a really long time f2p having the ads blocked, and I still don't have any blackmarks.

I used to have adverts blocked for a long time in f2p rs too, but that was a Norton feature that was seemingly removed during a 'upgrade' at one point, and I didn't know how to turn it off at the time. Theoretically they have know way of knowing, unless you tell them directly or mods are reading these forums :ohnoes:

Explain to me then the several posts made by Andrew Gower himself? ;)

Anyway, I'd second getting Firefox with ABP. Really gives you a nice boost if you have an old machine or slow internet.

I'll "third" that verdict. :ugeek:

Also, as someone else said, the PC belongs to the user... Jagex has no right to dictate, period. Shame on them for even trying this disgraceful and disrespectful ploy. :shame:

Which reminds me... In the last month or so, I remember there was someone who was allowing Jagex's Advert Server to send them adverts from third-party advertisers... Sadly, their computer ended up infected with viruses from those adverts, and they had to come to Tip.It's T&C Forum to get help on disinfecting. :(

Philipj, if you decide to use AdBlock Plus with FireFox, I've tagged below all the filter lines needed to permanently stop 99% of the adverts from RuneScape/FunOrb, as well as cause the element in the page to disappear from the actual rendering... There is one advert type that you'll have to figure out how to filter without breaking a script or two in the page... And I can certify these will work until Jagex pulls something crazy again. :?

advert.funorb.com

funorb.com#iframe(id*=ad)[/hide] Make sure you read the ABP manual on how to insert these before you try to, unless you easily grip onto handling things like this. While these are good filters, if you make even one mistake, it can mess up the game applet's login/load sequence, and I would never want that happening to a fellow Tip.It'er/RuneScape'er. :anxious:

Please post back if you need additional help with this. ::'

Alright this is really making me mad. For some reason adverts that normally appear on the top of the browser when playing runescape are opening in new tabs. How can I stop this?

What settings do you have for you tabs?

Is runescape the only site this happens on?
