Hawks
Look upon the glory that is an actual attempt at real-like soft shading with colored pencils! YAY! Full size it's quite large, so here is the link on my DevArt [hide=Full Size A lot x A lot][/hide] And I'm sorry about the horriffic treatment my scanner has given it. 'Tis much better in real life. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube
Sam
Colouring is messy D: Try and stay within the lines a little more (don't take this a flaming though). 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
VjuliusT
Pretty decent but I would work on your heads/faces if I were you. The anatomy is pretty good now slight error on the torso as it seems like his right is facing towards us a little more than the left but the torso is flat instead of going with the right arm. Hawks
Good point about the torso, I didn't notice that until now... And actually I think his head's also out of scale + I need practice on realistic heads... sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube
Star.
Maybe you should up on your anatomy first before shading it in. Ya know, make it a little less stiff so it looks realistic. Unless you ain't aiming for that... Also, image is too huge and where is the light source? It seems to be coming from the right but its like all the surfaces are all smooth and there's no contrast, hence we can't see the texture at all. Well, I dunno if you can do textures with your medium ahh ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢
Skull
You have the neck way to long is the first thing I noticed. With the collar thing you have on the armour (idk if it has a name) you shouldn't be able to see the neck, and the chin should probably be about even with or below the top of that. 2nd thing is probably the lack of a defined light source and third would be the anatomy is off. That being said, it looks like an improvement over you previous drawings. [bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp
Nadril
It has the same problems every single one of your drawings have had. People do not look like that. They don't look close to it. Stop with the color for a moment (it makes it look more like childish coloring more than an art piece) and just learn how to draw already. Start on inanimate objects such as fruit first if you have to. You really need to start somewhere small because, quite honestly, you aren't getting anywhere with these. Hawks
Nadril, if you haven't noticed, normal people also don't have purple eyes. People always get on my back about the faces. I know they suck, so this time I concentrated on what I can make not suck at this point. It happened to be an attempt at shading and somewhat better perspective and anatomy. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube

Everything, quite frankly, is bad. That's why I said start small. And an attempt, sure. But it certainly did not get you anywhere. THIS is an awesome link of all kind of tips for drawing and sketching venomai posted in another thread. I recommend you read it.
Unoalexi
Methinks you need to learn to look at things. As of now, you draw... symbolically. This isn't a bad thing, but it hinders your ability to draw realistically. Just looking at the character's face... the ears for example. Here, instead of drawing an actual ear, you draw a symbol for an ear. This is why manga drawing should generally be avoided by artist swho don't have a firm grasp of realism. We can sit here and tell you to go do still lifes all we want, but your not going to get better if you can't look at things. It's really hard to explain how to do this if you don't already know how... 1. Pick an object. 2. Study it. Try to envision it as more a collection of lines than an object. Make sure to look at the negative spaces around the object as well. 3. Drawing upside down helps. Here be dragons ^ Dragon of the Day

Drawing manga is fine and all, but any good manga artist will tell you they have a firm grasp on how to draw realistically. I don't care if the character isn't supposed to look "realistic", they're still going to have to be anatomically correct(to a point) because that looks good. Here's a few examples on various styles, which may not be totally "realistic" (cartoons esentially). Home Movies. One of my favorite shows , by the way, but the characters are still proportionally correct (for children). A lot of style in it. Frisky Dingo. A more realistic look at a "cartoon", but the characters still have really strong outlines. Of course, this is also a very western art style (same as home movies). Full Metal Alchemist. Just an eastern example, but notice how the characters are still just very anatomically correct. Also note that there is very little shading done on them.
