Tribbleman
I'd say use a rune defender or DFS, depending whether or not you can afford the DFS and whether you value offense over defence... Other than these two, there's nothing else other than the allmighty spirit shields that are worth using (but theyre a tad bit expensive, no? ) PROUD Owner of Quest cape since 12/25/08 99 Attack Achieved 6/5/09Drops: Dragon Boots x5, Dragon Chainbody x1 (Dusties) Abyssal Whip x3, Abyssal Head x1Best single TT Reward: Saradomin Platebody + Zammy Page
The Dark Lord
I was wrong about the rune defender being extremely hard to get. I just spent about ~2K tokens that I gathered by killing animated mithril armour and got the bronze defender in about 500 tokens, then I got the rest of the defenders with the remainder. I used a ring of wealth the entire time. The rune defender is also extremely useful for me because it increases accuracy, has a good strength bonus, and at least has about a +20 melee defence bonus. It's worth it. SWAG Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on.
zotto
I'm a rune defender/whip or SGS man myself. I do notice that most high level slayers tend to have a DFS instead of a rune defender. Do they know something we don't know?

Do they know something we don't know? Yeah, they have more money therefore they can afford I spend it on more expensive stuff even if it isn't as good as other, cheaper, items. Honestly, I do own a DFS, but its not because I have money to bust... I've done tests on multiple slayer monsters, and I get more kills with the same amount of food than I do with a rune defender, but I will admit, the tasks end up being a little longer, which I've learned to deal with ;) . Plus, since I use dragon armor, barrows costs don't offset my gains. zotto
It's a choice isn't it. For the same reason I don't cannon everything that can possibly cannon'ed. I enjoy my ways and I don't feel forced to use methods other people think are better for me.

aspokaspofkjsopfkapo
rune defender is probably your best bet, but if you want better defense then the crystal shield is cheap and very good.

Crystal shield is not cheap.....and it's not good....when it gets to about 4/10 or 6/10 can't remmy it is worse than d square, i would say the best shield for you atm is a rune defender.....it helps you to kill faster but if possible keep ur d sq. You've alreay lost this much so what's an extra few hundred k's. I would use the rune defender against the weaker monsters that requires practically no food and use your d sq. for stronger monsters where defense matters more than attack bonuses. [spoiler=Sig] I like to think of the Dark Bow like a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) - you get one shot and then you're screwed.

It's what, 50k for the seed and 150k/recharge, that's not expensive
The Dark Lord
Yeah, but most people don't use crystal equipment enough to get the price down to 150k/recharge. Even at 150k/recharge, that adds up quickly and a non-degradable shield item is cheaper and can be at around the same stats. Not to mention that you have to pay well over 2M in order to even get the price down to 150k / recharge. SWAG Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on. Kasalisk
If your looking for a cheap, defensive alternative to Rune Defender I suggest Rune Kite. Cheap, Simple, and Paintable :D. If I'm fighting high-leveled mosnters and Rune Defender's Def Bonus' just aren't cutting it, I just got a Rune Kite and painted Zammy Crest on it. Looks pretty good and works for me! Inuashakent
Rune defender is not only cheaper than DFS it's better. Don't listen to what people tell you, R defender is best.
