It's a phase. The "kill all news threads" phase is rapidly coming on, and soon to follow is the "nothing but incredibly valuable and intelligent scientific and philosophical discussion" phase.

 

 

 

Except it's more like the "nothing but incredibly pointless and selfless ego stroking of pseudo-scientific and pseudo-philosophical discussion" as nobody is actually giving their own opinions but simply quoting their favorite "hero" in the matter. There's very little independent thought, it's simply a link dump of footnotes. People will be begging to for lighthearted discussion in six months.

 

 

 

All this has happened before and it shall all happen again.

Yeah, these news threads are crap and crap throughout. Like I've said, it would be alright if the threadstarter actually puts his own input and steers the discussion. Instead, you see a link, a copy of the article, and a line begging people to "discuss" the article.

Make an offtopic subforum called "NEWS! FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE TOO BORING TO DISCUSS OTHER THINGS! NOW WITH 40% MORE CAPS!"

I thought the off-topic board was also swarmed with useless non-news related topics like this one. So much for something worth discussing.

Ok I can easily find 9-10 of your posts saying "ignore the news articles" or something like that. You got your point across some people just choose not to accept that point. If no one ranted about news articles then there would be plenty more.

Hmm... if you don't like the excess of new articles, why don't you create new threads which have topics you enjoy discussing? I like when new threads are created, you would like bumping the news topics off the first page, and the people who make the news threads can still do it. We all win.
