My Fractal Art

so, i've decided to make a thread here, which i hope to keep updated with my newest works and such, and what i desire in return is critique. i use apophysis 2.08 for all my fractals, and i finish small things with gimp. e.g. borders on some images, and the black backgrounds since apophysis 2.08 renders images with a transparent background.

These two fractals are actually the same fractal, just from a different perspective and with different coloring. I thought it was cool that they look so different when all i really did was flip it like 90 degrees.[/hide]

 

 

 

i think all of those turned out quite well. critique me on any of the pictures, i've got the parameters saved for most of the new ones, if i don't have the parameters saved, there isn't much i can do for recreating it, but i'll take critique into consideration for any pictures that are similar.

This is really good. Simple but the cocentric circles add to the nice looking fractal; great colours on it too!

I can't really take apophysis stuff seriously. I mean, it's essentially the same as a filter pile in photoshop. Not much thought process, just random actions. That's not to say there isn't good fractal art, I just haven't seem it come from that program.

i know what you mean, i just do it cause i enjoy it and i think it looks cool. i've never used photoshop, and i don't think i've seen a filter pile, but i'm sure i can imagine what you mean. a lot of what i do is just kind of random numbers and stuff till i get something that looks cool. ard choille does amazing stuff with apophysis if you ask me. there are lots of things that i find amazing that people do with the program that i'm completely clueless on, but hopefully with time i'll understand it a bit better. i'm a lot better now than i used to be.

Yeah it wasn't really meant as a dig against you, I just am not really sure how it all works. I know fractals are very math based, and I've seen some wonderful things done with them, but I do think a lot of it is pretty random workings. It's pretty hard to give criticism in that regard. I've only very briefly used Apophysis.

the program is basically just plugging in numbers into the different variations of fractal, which then alters the flame, each normal fractal that i make is 2-4 "triangles" which are used by the program to calculate how the flame ends up looking. the with all the different gradients built into apophysis, and the ability to make your own with gimp or whatever (which i don't know how to do yet) all adds up to something that's pretty complicated, and amazing since it's free. i enjoy it, i sit for hours messing with the numbers for a specific fractal, altering it in miniscule ways, or scrapping it and starting over. each fractal i make i try to do something different.

i render at 4000 quality right now, and these take me 2-4 hours to render. i have a crappy old computer, so when i get a new computer i can render them larger, and a higher quality.

"Illusionary Onset" is the best, but only because it doesn't look like a filter pile / random generation. Your other works, no offense, look like first-timer scribbles.

 

 

 

You'll need to put some effort into your work to get it looking impressive. This isn't a matter of crossing your fingers and hoping the result looks artistic! I suggest you start off with some tutorials.

i've used some tutorials, that's partially how i did illusionary onset. and yeah, i'm working on getting better, although my works are far from effortless or first timer scribbles. they just lack refinement of true knowledge of how apophysis works. i've been looking at tutorials and scripts and stuff on deviantart, so i'm working at getting better with it.

 

 

 

also i added another julian variations, and changed the name of the first hide tag.

updated the first tag with another new one, this one is a julia3d variation, it's kinda 3d! figured out how to do it all by myself. should i lower the pitch so that you can see the 3d parts a bit more clearer as 3d?

updated the main post, took a few pictures out so the page loads faster, also updated my newest one into the "most recent" hide tag. it's a step down from the refinement of the julia/julian variations, but i was really just trying to work on the overall form of it, going for the specific shape and design of it, without any other blur or anything. in that respect i think it turned out pretty well.

again, neither of these are as refined as the julians are, but i did these both all on my own, no tutorials or anything, just set out with what i've learned from past fractals and played around a bit. i really like both of these. comments? suggestions?
