"Bad Signature" reports.

I've reported several posts on the forums to report the posters' way large signatures, but each time I've not seen anything done about them.

 

 

 

Is that report option only for offensive signatures, or for too big ones aswell? Really big signatures annoy me very much, especially if the post is like two rows, and the sig like 300px high.

Well, I can't speak for the staff or anything, but I think that once you've reported the post your part of the matter ends and from then on it's the staff's problem to take care of it. If they decide not to do anything once they are aware of it, that's not your business. That's my reporting mentality anyway.

Well, I do respect that they don't really have to do anything about it, and that it's not my business.

 

My query is asking what exactly this report option is for. I report the huge sigs when I see them, and always check the "notify me" box in the report interface, to follow up if my report actually helped.

 

 

 

The rules state: "Forum Signature Limits are 450 pixels wide by 200 pixels high by 100Kb file size. There is no limit on pictures, as long as the total width/height/file size does not exceed 450 x 200 x 100Kb.", and I report obviously large signatures when I see them, always checking if they're exceeding the limit. But I keep asking myself if it's really an "offense" worth reporting, as they never seem to get handled.

 

 

 

I'm not ranting about the moderation system, I just don't know if I should report large sigs or not.

Not all moderators have the ability to remove oversized/inappropriate signatures. If you report a bad signature and a local or global moderator deals with the report, they essentially have to record it for a super moderator or administrator to deal with it. So it can sometimes take a few days before a super moderator or administrator gets around to it, unless they're the one who close the report in the first place.

And yes, you should always report large signatures that you see :)

All signature reports are dealt with, we don't ever just delete the report and do nothing about it, unless there isn't actually anything wrong with the signature in question.

 

 

 

If an admin or supermod gets the report, they have the power to replace the signature there and then, however if a local/global moderator deals with it, they have to put it up for an admin/supermod to notice it, and then replace it if necessary. Sometimes no-one is around to deal with the report, or a supermod/admin isn't around to act on it, so it can occasionally take a while to be completed.

I've sent 40+ myself, they're usually dealt with. I have noticed that (for the above reasons) it sometimes takes a long time to solve even after the 'report closed' message.

I haven't had much of a problem. Make sure that you are reporting rightly though, my signature(as I'm sure you can imagine) has been reported several times that I know of just for being so annoying, but it isn't actually breaking any rules.

As stated in previous posts and reiterated by pryomancer, all oversized signatures do get removed eventually. The person who closes your report was probably a Global or Local moderator, who does not have the ability to remove the signature. You have to wait until a Super Moderator or Administrator can take care of it. You just have to be patient.

If you see a signature that exceeds the 100kb limit, please report it so it can be removed. We don't allow signatures to go over the limit in dimensions or file size ;)

I wouldn't doubt it. A few days ago I reported someone with a 1.8mb sig and 1.2mb avatar of someone setting a pile of brush on fire with an animated 99 firemaking cape on his back :wall:

The majority of animated gif's aren't that big in file size. Mine, for example, is one of the longest ones (time wise) and it is only 80 kilobytes. It really depends on the resolution, and the one in question looks pretty basic.

Length of animation dosn't affect the whole filesize, yours is long but doesn't have many frames. A shorter one with lots of frames would have a much higher filesize.

What? I was talking about a long gone signature that was 1.8mb when downloaded. There's no argument about it, the size wouldn't magically change to 143 KB.

If I recall the rules correctly, text counts towards the height limit too?

 

 

 

It is allowable to use a small amount of text as well as a picture, however please be respectful to other users and limit the amount

 

 

 

 

 

 

The height of your sig far exceeds 200px high when you factor in the space the text takes up.
