Whats the best software for burning/ripping music/dvds?

Featured Replies

I just bought a brand new dell inspiron xps gen 2 :D and I am looking for new software for my music/dvds. I am currently using musicmatch jukebox for music, however I am getting tired of the popups and its a resource hog.

I am looking for something to play/rip/burn cds. I would like to be able to queue up many songs at once and let it go for a couple hours. I dont need any fancy options, I just want to be able to play music, rip music, and burn the occasional cd.

As for the dvd software, what is the best software for viewing dvds and burning them (dual layer)? I use PowerDVD to view them, however I do not have any software to burn them.

I don't mind downloading multiple programs. However, I would like something that can run in the background. I prefer free programs. :)

Does anybody have any suggestions?

to download music, go with limewire. some people like bittorrent, but u have to know where to go to get good stuff. can be found at limewire.com

to play music, make mixes, and combine tracks, mixvibe free is great. if u want to edit music, get audacity. both found searching free music programs on download.com(which u might want to do next time)

to burn cds, express burn is great. can be found at http://nch.com.au/burn/index.html

hope it helps

mrbob, dont link to limewire/bittorrent here, they encourage illegal activies :/

Nero has never let me down for burning cd's, dunno if it does dvds though. For ripping i've always used sound forge, though thats far from free...click audio rippers on download.com and sort by popularity. something's bound to tickle your fancy ;)

I don't think he was asking how to illegally download music.

Anyway, as to a free program to rip music off of cd's and your computer, you can try iTunes. It lets you set up playlists that you can set preferences to so that it automatically makes one that keeps playing and playing, and a lot of bells and whistles but it's simple. It'll play, rip, and burn cd's just like you want, and best of all, it's free and simple.

As for DVDs, I don't know.

iTunes, hands down. I even used it before I had an iPod. Its a great music player, awesome features, you can purchase songs, or even just import easily from Cd's. Burning cds is no problem at all. Unlimited amounts of songs can be queued. Its an amazing piece of software, i'll tell you that. Best of all, its free.

If ever you want a seperate program to burn Cd's, go with Nero. The best CD burner out there imo.

Other than iTunes (I don't like it for some reason :P)

Ripping: CDeX

Burning: Nero

For DVDs, i use DVD Shrink which I think is rather good.

but since it only shrinks them, you need burning software...you can use nero but i use Sonic since it came with my computer and i didnt want to download any more stuff

^^ Alchohol 120% owns in DVD burning and mounting. 'Nuff said.

Thanks for the input everyone, it looks like I am going to have to go on a downloading spree tonight. :D Although I am still looking for more options if anyone else has a recommendation. 8)

For burning, I've never had any problem with Nero.

For ripping, I use easy cd-da extractor. It's just a nice graphical front-end for lame, and since it's using lame, the quality is amazing!

For ripping cd's: Did no one mention Windows Media Player?? You can burn them in mps format too. Which is good if yuo have a PSP or any other device that can't use the Itunes format.

But by far, Itunes is the best.
