Understood. But from what I see, you have a problem with the pain they endure?

From some of the replies I've read, unmodified cockfights are pretty harmless, the entertainment lying not in blood and gore but in the voluntary submission of one rooster or the other.

I'm not sure if this submission is made out of pain, or if the rooster simply acknowledges that it is weaker than it's opponent. The answer to this question will make your opinion more definite (or, less).

We have the power to prevent them from harming each other. I'm not saying that we should go around breaking up animal fights in the wild, but we definitely shouldn't instigate them. By putting two roosters together, with the knowledge that they do have a pretty good chance of getting severely injured or even killed, that is putting your entertainment needs above the physical health of an animal. I don't like when people instigate fights between two human beings, but I have no problem with two consenting people fighting. The same with cockfights. It's really just the instigation I have beef with.

As for the point about submission, pain is usually still a result. For example, if you put a mouse on a tall box and put cheese on the floor, you could argue that you get entertainment from seeing how desperate the mouse is for the cheese (as opposed to getting kicks out of seeing a mouse fall down to the floor and be in pain), but it still has the result of injuring the mouse.

So what you're saying is that humans have some god-given right to use other animals to make entertainment?

Just my interpretation

I'm not religious.

Still stands....do you think we have the right to exploit them for entertainment?

The organization is what I don't like. If two roosters are fighting in the wild then watch it all you like. But if you purposely put two together for the sole intention of watching them fight then I do think it's wrong. It's like instigating.

Lol, so because you think it's wrong makes it absolute? Should everything that happens in the world depend on your definition of what is right or wrong?

I'm the one trolling you? Dude, seriously, go look up the definition of subjectivity and objectivity. You seem to be getting them confused a lot. Those are my opinions and I am entitled to have them.

Besides, someone could say the same exact thing to you. "Just because you think it's right makes it absolute?"

It's EXTREMLY common here, but it's illegal. But nobody really cares, as i have gone to a few of them. They attach knives to the claws, which is something i don't enjoy. But i agree, it's fun to watch.

Everyone who don't like it should come down here. You would be surprised !

For real? Two chickens dancing around, slicing each other up?

Seems a little boring (the chicken-dancing)--and that boredom seems like it'd evolve into sadness (once a crippling strike is dealt, making one of the birds limp and bleed).

Of course, I haven't watched a cockfight and don't really have a say in this area.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here..."

The same place where you get the right to eat slaughtered animals. Unless you're a vegan who wholly defies exploitation of animals, you can't really ask that question.

So you think our entertainment needs should be on the same level as our survival needs?

Only if you lose. Oh man the feeling of your own chicken winning.... not that I have any first hand experiences. Just the notion of it.

As someone earlier said....it was something along the lines of "Food is one thing this is another"

Now, as for my own point...when an animal is slaughtered it is quick and painless...this however is cruelty (you know slow and painful possibly leading to death) and it is my belief that anyone who finds this entertaining is nothing short of at least 90% sadistic

Oh yeah and dominance? Ok all you Americans out there, feel free to start a new sport. It's called "non-American hunting". The goal is to hunt down and kill as many foreigners as possible, or capture them. The captured ones will then be pitted against each other in a fight to entertain you......fun? Of course it is. Cruel? No! And the right for this is....you are the most powerful country in the world!

Same thing, different context

It's alot more fun that it sounds. People are screaming, owners have over $10,000 on the roosters.

ShadowFaxPZ: Winning (atleast from what i have seen) makes the owners very happy :D

I apologize, the animals and humans have a mutually agreed upon slaughter arrangement.

If it's a different context, it's a different situation.

You really think that when animals get slaughtered, it's quick and painless? No man. I've seen goats, cows, pigs, chickens, get slaughtered. The only way it can be quick and painless is if you shoot them in the head. How many do slaughterhouses do you think wastes a bullet for each? Pretty much none. When you slaughter an animal, you rip the jugular first and they slowly die. There is nothing quick or painless about that.

Ok man, go ahead, I can't change people's minds. Yeah people are more important. It's the human reaction. But can you honestly say that that means we can do whatever we want?

As long as no human is harmed/the rooster is not killed slowly.

Not quite. Animals are not the same as people, so don't treat people like animals.

Are people really arguing we don't have dominance over animals? That seems like a ridiculous argument or at least extremely naive.

Quicker than the gratingly slow pain that occurs through numerous wounds. Jugular is cut, ok I admit it probably happens, so i admit I was wrong, but again look at my previous sentence

Err so rooster is not killed slowly so long as no human is harmed? Umm we're still talking about pitting the birds against each other in a fight (often to the death) right?

No, I'm not saying we don't have dominance. However, just through dominace can we do what we like? Is it right for a king to murder someone he believes is in the wrong? Is it right for a dictator of any kind to make someone suffer because they've wrong HIM or HER?
