Laura
Would you consider 92 degrees centigrade too hot for an ATI 3450? 70C under idle load? Both temperatures maintaining a GPU clock of 675Mhz and a memory clock of 500Mhz.
Georgelemmons
Yes. Even 80C is pushing it, and around/under 60C is usually the best to extend the life of your card. Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <
Bauke
They can get up to 120 degrees. 92 degrees is a tad bit on the high side, but nothing to worry about really. It's advisable to clean the dust of the fan, if you're able to. Just make sure it doesn't progress. Don't go that far with a cpu though, if you'll ever come to it. Mostly cpu's can't handle temperatures from 70 degrees and up. @Georgelemmons; that's advisable for a cpu. Gpu's can handle more. Laura
It's a "new" computer as well. Thanks guys, I just wanted to add to my case.

OldJoe
Passive or fan cooled? That card shouldn't be at those temps at all. My 4670 (fan cooled, auto) doesn't go above 65C at full load. If it's air cooled, you could raise the fan-speed a bit in CCC. As others say, it won't die because of it, but that card should be in the 40-50s max. @Bauke: CPUs have a built-in safety control, if it gets above 75-80 it will shut down automatically to prevent damage. Fan cooled. How do I raise the speed in CCC? I'm in advanced, but I only see the ATI Overdrive which allows the ability to OC the CPU and memory clock. The Observer
I'd say that you should be concerned. Maybe you can get a better cooling system? My friend's computer is liquid cooled. Maybe you can look into that?
OldJoe
Laura: In the overdrive section, click the padlock and unlock. Mark the "enable manual fan control", try something like 30% (since i guess it's a really low setting atm) and check if it still runs hot. Apply until you hit your desired cooling vs noise setting. Killer: That card is a budget card, i wouldn't advice on water cooling until you buy a card for 200$ or more. My cpu got up to like 95 before. :wall: If it didn't shut down, it should have started to throttle or if you have defined a temprature setting in the BIOS which would enable it to still keep running. The temp i posted may be a bit off, atleast i remember that info from a couple of years ago. (searched around a bit just now and saw the number 105C (atleast for C2)) Intel explanation: "The power monitor continuously tracks the die temperature. If the temperature reaches the maximum allowed value, a throttle mechanism is initiated. A multi-level tracking algorithm is implemented. Throttling starts with the more efficient dynamic voltage scaling policy and if not sufficient, the power monitor algorithm continues lowering the frequency. If an extreme cooling malfunction occurs, an Out of Spec notification will be initiated, requesting controlled shutdown. Lastly, the CPU can initiate a thermal shutdown and turn off the system." http://www.intel.com/technology/itj/200 ...

OldJoe
Ehm. Download the latest correct driver for you system(9.2), uninstall the current driver via the controlpanel, reboot, install latest driver, reboot and check again. If this doesn't work, you can download rivatuner and see if that works. If it doesn't, either Dell has some weird restriction, or more likely, you aren't able to control the fan. Dell is weird with fan control. Try googling "dell fan control", I personally use i8kfan. My laptop GPU never goes over 50, my CPU stays under 45. On my desktop, the GTX 260 hits 41 after serious benchmarking, and my CPU gets to around 31-32 with 22 ambient room temperature with a passively cooled motherboard. I put small\quite\cheap fans in every orifice of the box running slowly, it's whisper silent but moves air like a fan. My friends joke that it might fly away sometime. Big fan (realized it was a pun after I typed it...) of adding as many fans as you can possibly fit. And give it that 6 month cleaning. eggzs
iirc Fan Control is only for the 4800s, if you want to control it manually, you will need to download Rivatuner. My 3870 idles ~60C and peaks at about 75C at load
Bauke
Gpu/cpu temperatures can vary between pc's. Not only because there are different types of gpu's and cpu's, but also because the airflow in the pc case can differ. Still, those temperatures are nothing to worry about at this point. Sure, it's always advisable to keep them as low as possible.. but if there's no option to increase the fan speed or whatsoever, then I'd just let it be. Also, do know that when you do increase the fan speed.. it might be starting to blow like crazy, resulting in a lot of noise coming from the pc. Most cpu's/gpu's have automatic fan speed nowadays. They blow softly during idle periods, and increase the fan speed under load. Sure, airflow can matter, but not to the extent it goes to 90 on a 3400 card! I'm gonna say this sentence until people get it. I guess it's not really an issue anymore though, as I'm not using this computer. I filed a small courts claim against Dell for amounts not to exceed $3,000. Should I get an OK I will have to fly back to the states, but if they won't refund my money, they sure as hell won't keep it.
BlueLancer
ATITool 0.26 / 0.27 -> Settings -> Fan speed -> Set 80-100% constant, some noise will occur but the card stays cool... Runs Radeon 4870 at 32C idle with 80% fan speed constant
