God, I hate it that when I'm in the middle of a Clan War, my client starts to freeze every 10 seconds because of some stupid animated advert at the top (I'm F2P). I can't play while that advert is being displayed, and that advert has been there for like the whole day now. They seem to last an eternity. :? I thought JaGeX said they got rid of the animated adverts... guess not.

There's still some slightly animated. Three options:

Convince Jagex to close down FTP (and thus remove the ads)

Refresh the page and a different advert appears.

Or is that "illegal"? In which case I am NOT telling you to use it, but I AM saying that it IS a way to SOLVE your problem, although you "shouldn't" use it because it's "illegal", if you catch my hint. ;)

Jagex meant the 10 second heavily animated ads you had to watch before you entered the game.

90% of Tip.it's ads are like that.

I don't mind it... it is what pays for my game.

 

The only thing I don't like is how it always somehow manages to update at just the moment I make a typing mistake, and takes away keyboard focus....

There was an advert that used to freeze my computer ON THE FREAKING MAIN PAGE. Even worse in-game. #-o

 

Post in an advert complaint, it should get removed. I've already gotten three lag adverts out with that. :?

I have played with FF adblock on for the last couple of years or so for exactly the same reason. It used to lag me out when on clan trips, or when solo pking. If static ads were there, it would be no prob, but once the Zwinky ads appeared, I had to take aciton.

Mine doesn't. $1050. Core 2 Duo OCed to 3.66, GTX 260 OCed, 8 GB OCZ Reaper @ 1066 Mhz, and I don't lag a bit. It's a 1000 dollar 6 month old computer, nothing close to top of the line.

Well, my problem has been solved since I downloaded Adblock Plus.

P2P = no adverts. :P Unless you play on a F2P account, too, don't know about that.. The heavy adverts combined with the game cause most computers to freeze. I have an quite old computer (BIOS is Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG, Intel Celeron CPU 2.66Ghz, 1024MB of RAM) which at least, in my understanding (I might be wrong, though, this computer hasn't been updated in about 2-3 years, unless you count in the Graphic Card change [last one broke]), is quite close to the average computer, and some of the adverts make the game freeze for at least 5-10 seconds, if not even so bad I have to close the browser.

It aint the average computer, Celeron's don't even exist any more. Intel finally figured out the lack of cache severely degraded speed. And since adverts are all about the CPU time, that's probably the cause.

i had an advert today on the runescape homepage for that wolverine movie.

 

 

 

giant claw marks appeared and covered the entire page, and if i hadn't stopped quickly enough, i would have accidentally clicked on it. it displays over menus and links, making it impossible to access them until it disapears.

 

 

 

not acceptable. and i don't think i even rolled over the banner at the top of the page this time

Which will basically ruin any site you don't specifically allow, leading you to simply 'allow all', and ruining any safety features. Adblock plus is the way to go :
