26th March 2009 - Development Diary

Yeah, but someone should have been aware what the end game was meant to be, or had a general notion. If one person is planning it and refuses to tell anyone or his boss what the point of it is and they let him get away with it, then that's a load of crap.

And come on, you know people are worshipping MMG.

I got so excited when I saw a link to a new dev diary in Jagex's Twitter feed...then I read it. It's good to know there's a new dwarf quest in the works, but if all the diaries are this brief and blog-like, they better be released with blog-like frequency. Once every two months will leave players unsatisfied.

They are talking about this quest waaaaay too early. Now it's either they keep talking to us about it for months to come, making the quest seem much cooler than it probably will be. Or they won't talk about it until just before it's release, making this Development Diary pointless.

that probably the smartest point ive read in this thread

this is why i miss bts..

1) I think they need a Construction update for the Chapel in your POH to make a MMG symbol that way you guys can worship him properly in game.

Was that an insult? Because to be honest I would want that

Gaah. I'm not coming back to this thread again it gives me headaches and I can't come up with anything that possibly won't end up me ranting about whiny people so I'll try keep it brief.

Yes it isn't much.

Yes it may not be relevent at the moment.

If you don't like it - go play a different game where updates come... never.

Or just plain don't like it, accept the fact that Jagex released a plain dumb piece of crap they call a DD and continue playing an otherwise great game.

Well, that's what I'll be doing.

I suppose that is an option too.

Actually you know how they have idiot savants that can play instruments flawlessly and deliver beautiful musical performances?

Well Jagex is an idiot savant and Runescape is their violin that they play.

Libs, really, i dont get it, you absolutely seem to detest runescape, jagex, and any updates, so why the heck after retiring are you still hanging around here? EVERYTHING you say is anti jagex, youve replied so many times now, we get it, you hate jagex, nothing you say is anywhere near on topic.

I personally don't get all the fuss, i hated the BTS, this is an added bonus, as i wouldn't mind if we got no idea whatsoever about future updates.

I don't hate Runescape. I love Runescape. I don't hate Jagex really, just certain people there. I also don't like all the self-congratulating that goes on there.

And I'm not retired, I'm semi-retired. I play a good bit and have lately.

I don't agree with the direction they're taking and I will say so.

And I could've sworn these forums were to talk about things.

None of your replies on the last few pages have been even related to the Dev diary, It's just bashing jagex every chance you get, its fine if you dont like them i get it, but you dont have to keep doing bad joke after bad joke trying to get your point across, we get it. Its ok if people dislike the diary, but random flaming jagex without even hinting at the topic is annoying as hell.

Ah yes, it's annoying. I'll let you know when I care what I do about what I do annoying other people.

And they're not bad jokes, they're good. You just don't like the topic of them and it skews your view of them.

On topic, DD should be about content in development and not ideas some Jagex guy came up with while having an odd dream after eating too many slices of anchovy pizza.

They have personal messages for a reason, you two.

...

Personally, I've enjoyed the Dwarf quests, along with the Goblin quests. I just haven't gotten around to The Chosen Commander yet, but the next one in the Dwarf series should be good. ;)

It is about content in development, The development doesen't start when they transfer ideas onto the systems, it starts with designing aswell, the ideas for all the content in runescape doesen't just magically appear, it's nice to see an insight into how a quest series starts off its design phase.

That can't be a real Development Diary

That can't seriously be what they're working on. Dwarves? Who cares about them when you have a HUGE TEMPLE OF ANCIENT POWER, AN ENTIRE RACE IN TURMOIL, AND A RISING FORCE OF EVIL THAT COULD THREATEN THE WORLD that would make such a better quest? (Mourning's End series here).

Zaaps, surely by now you know they work on more than one thing at a time right? This peice of dev probably isn't even scheduled for next year or late this year, i'd take a bet they are working on a few of the other quest series as we speak. That could even be the reason for not doing a dev diary on them, they've smarten'd up and learn't not to give away any info on close larger updates due to influxes of massive whining and assumptions.

True, but I'd like to see it incorporated in some sort of story/diary that actually has something interesting to say. I mean, sure.. a developer can lay down his ideas.. but this is nothing more than a couple of brainfarts. Vague ideas about what the quest could be. I mean.. that's what I've had come up with if I were interested in guessing a plot in a next dwarven quest.

The idea is not bad.. the actual product is.

Yeah, I understand that. I overreacted a bit there, but I honestly don't see any appeal in the dwarf storyline. The rewards were terrible, the story was lame, and the quests were boring. I know they're working on other quests, so even with a lame DD on one of those has to be better than dwarves. What about the Lunar v. Fremmy storyline? They've been in conflict for centuries and are only now beginning to find a possible peace. How great would it be if there were a quest about some strange demon thing which rose to stop this? All of the lunar quests were great, so if Jagex wants to be the community hyped up, they should've at least used a questline that had a better reputation.

I think they're already working on other stuff. This is a quest that is at its starting point. In the mean time, Jagex will have to release a quest now and then, which means they have a lot more in their pipeline, and in a more finished state. Also, MMG said that the "actual" 150th quest needed some more development, which could imply that we do have some other (better?) stuff coming up.

I know that, but I'm saying this DD is a wasted bullet. The first ever new Diary they come out with fails. This is an opportunity for Jagex to prove that their new system is going to work out good. But when it's as lame as this, it can only hurt what people think of Jagex and their plans.

I think Jagex needs to make a few tweaks on this in order to calm the masses. First, drop the name DD and just make it a blog like it is. Secound, they need to Have more than one person making these, about different things and need to have them frequently. Like every two weeks.
