A few questions on Slayer...

Featured Replies

Hi, yeah, it's me.

I have a couple opinion questions that I'd like answered on Slayer. I have a long-term goal of 85 Slayer (and 99 Defence, but that's irrelevant here), and I need to know a few things on what YOU think.

Stats are in my sig, thanks in advance to those who reply.

1) Should I use Sumona or Duradel? I really don't care about Slayer Points at this time, because the Slayer Helm seems kind of pointless to me. But that's just my opinion. I currently use Duradel for all of my tasks, but he's been annoying me with Black Demons lately.

2) Should I get a Slayer Helm now, or wait until I've figured out which tasks to block? Like I said before, I don't really care about getting a Helm right now, but I'd like your opinion on this one anyways.

3) Which tasks should I block? Fairly straightforward, everyone has their own opinion on this.

Current Block List:

-Black Demons (no point trying to make me change my mind, I HATE these.)

-Steel Dragons

-Greater Demons (very common, and I only ever range them since Wild Dogs are really annoying. Might un-block when I get 127 Combat, like that's ever gonna happen...)

-Kalphites

Cancel every time:

-Skeletal Wyverns (don't enjoy these much, but they're fairly rare)

-Warped Terrorbirds (speaks for itself...)

1. Duradel

2. Block first.

3. Steel dragons, iron dragons, hellhounds, greater demons

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Personally i use Duradel, however people who want faster exp use Sumona for tasks and then Duradel on the 10th.

Again, it's your own choice. Personally i got the ability to craft rings first as the teleports just speeds up assignments/helps alot with penguin hunting and clue scrolls. If i were you i would save up for a slayer helm, and just cancel the tasks you don't wanna do (which is 30 points instead of 100) Once you have the helmet you can block tasks. That's just my two cents though - blocking tasks may be more of a priority for you.

3) Which tasks should I block? Fairly straightforward, everyone has their own opinion on this.

I have Iron dragons and warped terrorbirds blocked. Some people block steel dragons and wyverns but Duradel doesn't assign them frequently and when he does they're in manageable amounts.

Other people block hellhounds and kalphites but i think they are easy tasks. I can easily do a task of 120 hellhounds in one trip, with just bunyip (before summoning i could do it with guthans too) - Cannon makes that task easy too. The harder kalphites do poison, but they are good exp and you can safespot them.

Black dragons are often crowded, but again you can overcome this by playing at non - peak times. I quite like black demons, and can do a whole task with a mix of bunyip/guthans in one trip - but if you don't like them, block them!

Hope this helped.

Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!

1. Duradel <---Correct

2. Block first. <---SLAYER HELM, USELESS? It's up to you, it's either having the most useful piece of headgear ever first, or speed up Slayer point gathering.

3. Steel dragons, iron dragons, hellhounds, greater demons <---Oh please, Hellhounds and Greater demons are great tasks. Kalphites are MUCH worse.

Alright, thanks everyone who replied so far.

I'm leaning more towards using Duradel as my regular, he assigns better tasks than Sumona. Also, I think I'll block Black Demons (I really hate them, they take forever for me), Warped Terrorbirds (already have them blocked, I find them really annoying, though I've developed a pretty good method for killing them), Steel Dragons (Irons I can live with but Steels are far worse), and Scabarites (I've seen that on the majority of peoples' block lists. I might try a task to see how bad they are, but I'll probably end up blocking them). Keep posting, I might decide to change my list.

I blocked Steel Dragons, Black Demons, Scabarites, Kalphites.

Steel Dragon is obvious, takes too long, not many great methods to kill them.

Black Demons take too long for me, but is otherwise a GREAT task, just takes toooo long. >.>

Scabarites is because I don't have a cannon, and I don't want to run to the desert for a smallish task, if they were assigned in larger numbers I'd do it.

Kalphites I blocked because the Soldiers have no good drops, poisons, needs cannon for fast kill, low hp and therefore low xp, and the area is multi.

Dragon: Dragon Platelegs x2 , Dragon Plateskirt x2, Dragon Boots x38, Dragon Med Helm x4, Shield left half x3

Godwars: Godsword shard x13, Bandos Hilt x3, Bandos Chestplate x6, Bandos Tassets x4, Bandos Boots x5, Saradomin Sword x1, Zamorakian Spear x1,. Armadyl Helm x2, Armadyl chestplate x2.

These are my suggestions and tips that i've picked up on my way to getting 85 slayer (got now)

1. Use duradel, you might not care about the points now, but they do come in useful when you get an onslaught of unwanted tasks or you could just spend them on slayer dart and make a nice sum out of it. Also from experience duradel gives higher lvled tasks, meaning more exp if you have the equipment.

2. I would use 200 points on blocking your most hated tasks first, then get the slayer helm. You should definetly get the slayer helm, if you add up all the bonuses it has then you will it to be a very valuable slayer aid.

3. I have blocked the tasks that are usually the most annoying to me. Its personal to everyone but i would suggest:

- Skeletal wyverns,

- Mutant tortoises,

- Mutant birds,

- Black demons or Black dragons

Skeletal Wyverns are too rare to block, Tortoises are good money from their shells.

I have Steel and Iron Dragons blocked, they simply take to long. Skeletal Wyverns also take too long.

Greater Demons aren't as bad as everybody says, after 15 minutes of annoyance with the Wild Dogs, they are a pretty fast task, and you can get a few Clue Scrolls. You could also use the Ogre City place, but you can't pick up any of your arrows. Tele-grab Clues and Rune items.

Black Dragons are also a fast task, provided that you kill the babies in the Chaos Tunnels. It'll go fast, and the Green Dragon hunters will love you.

Scarabite Minions are one of my favorite tasks, since they're profitable and are assigned in low numbers. I range them near that swamp place. They drop Battlestaffs, Herbs, the occasianal Rune item, and Half Keys. Go slightly west of the spot north of the swamp, and you can safespot the two meleers without getting attacked by the rangers. After awhile, you can go to a better safespot slightly south.

Kalphites are pretty fast, but their drops are horrible. Kill the workers near the netrance if you want it done faster, that's what I do.

Hellhounds are disliked by many, but they're a fairly rare task and I enjoy Clues.

Mithril Dragons are assigned it ridiculously small numbers, and they have excellent drops. I've never had a task of them, though. If you want fast exp, though, you should skip these. Don't block them, they're a rare task. But I like them.

Black Demons are slow, but they are a great source of Charms and you can gt a few rune drops. They are slow, though, but now with Jagex's Charm update of the Taverly's Demons, they can be cannoned with a safespot. I don't recommend you block/skip these.

Bloodvelds-Bad drops, crowded, but the ones from Legacy of Seergaze are not so crowded, and they can be cannoned. There are normal and mutated versions availble. If you cannon, do the mutateds, as you could profit (rarely, though). You could cannon the normals ones, but you'll lose a good amount of money. If you've completed the quest, you should ALWAYS use those ones. If not, you could skip these.

Goraks-Ugh. No reliable safespots, can't be prayed, no charms, and mediocre drops. They can be cannoned, though. Skip these don't block them since they are pretty rare.

Suqahs-Skip these

Warped Terrorbirds-These aren't really worth blocking, since they are pretty rare. Skip these though. They are fast, but many people, including me, can't stand them.

Waterfiends-Profitable with great charms, but I don't like them. It's pretty much simply preference.

When you go feather dragon god, you never go back.

Suqahs and Goraks are pretty quick, Goraks also drop a lot of gems, which can all be banked, since it's near fairy ring.

1) Should I use Sumona or Duradel? Duradel always.

2) Should I get a Slayer Helm now, or wait until I've figured out which tasks to block? Get slayer helm, its the top 1 priority.

3) Which tasks should I block? Greater demons, hellhounds, steel dragons and turoths.

i dont think duradel gives turoths as task

O yea my mistake :wall:

I mean block kalphites, they are just sad :P

pinguim0310.png

I have blocked:

Hellhounds: can't stand the crowds and no drops (I stopped doing clues)

Warped terrorbirds: no charms, annoying to kill

Kalphites: Always forget antipoison, crowded, cannon for quick kills (already 99 ranged so kind of a waste), not great xp, not great charms

Steel drags: awfully slow.

I mostly skip goraks, gargs, and whatever I dont feel like.

Don't skip scabarites, wyverns or black demons though. They are all great crimson charm droppers. For black dragons, I do the kbd, mostly for fun of course.

I personally sucked it up and got the helm first doing all the tasks up until I had enough to block tasks. I did go 100 points over the cost of the help though so I had a few extra points to cancel Wyvern tasks.

Personally, I have:

Iron Dragons

Steel Dragons

Skeletal Wyverns

Waterfiends

as my blocked list. (I recognize waterfiends as a good task and even better crimson dropper, however I do NOT want str exp, so I block them)

Apparently, my signature was to big.

Unblock it, now. What I suggest to you that if you don't want Strength xp, is to use Zamorakian spear or Verac's Flail. Flail trains attack and has prayer bonus, but has only speed 5, Spear trains at 6, but has smaller prayer bonus than flail and trains controlled.

Or, do it my "special" way, use Ancient Staff (Speed 6, 40 Crush attack, 50 Strength)+Rune defender, the defender is A MUST, if you don't have it, you miss too much. This setup gives you +12 Magic defense inaddition to being able to train any of the 3 skills. (+12 due to defender's -3)
