Help me please

Hello all! My computer has been infected by some type of spyware. I downloaded an Anti Spyware program but my computer is still having problems opening some websites. I'm not sure if there is something more I should be doing to get things back to normal. HELP PLEAZZZZZ!!!!!

you might try running spybot s&d or other antispywere softwares, but if I were you, I would reinstall my system since it get rids of every problem easily

 

 

 

To do this, check to see if you've got a "system recovery disc" or installation disc

 

 

 

I think buying a Mac to avoid computer virus is like not playing Runescape in case of getting killed. Not very practical I'm afraid

 

 

 

aah don't forget installing anti-virus, firewall and antispywere back afterwards if you choose to reinstall the system. Remember to run scans once a week

I don't think OP needs/wants to spend $1000+ when he can easily find a very good AV for free.

 

 

 

Try AVIRA & Ad-Aware. I've found these to be a great combo, haven't had any real problems with these at all, they pick up pretty much everything.

For clarification, there are none in the "wild" for OS X at this time. That's not to say that buying a machine upwards of $600 is a feasible option, nor is it one anyone would recommend just for this issue.

I realize they're from about two years ago and I'm not trying to be a "fangirl" or whatever, but a wild virus would be a news story, similar to that trojan that affected Mac users in the torrent of iWork '09. Even if there were, it would only be superficial. You have to input your password on any installation or change and the user doesn't have access to the system roots at idle. I'm certainly not saying they're insuperable, for that would be ignorant and foolish to think.

Anyway, my advice to you is this:

 

 

 

Look into Spybot Search&Destroy. Get that, and install it.

 

Boot into Safe Mode (mash F8 until you get the special boot prompt, then select Safe Mode).

 

Run Spybot S&D from Safe Mode.

 

Repeat this process for one other antivirus program of your choice (a few good ones were already linked here).

 

 

 

I say run these scans in safe mode since many of the OS frills are turned off, and it's all the OS needs to run competently. It's been eons since I did this, but IIRC, running Spybot in safe mode should still work.

I use lavasoft ad-aware, it seems to work well.

 

 

 

And makoto, supposedly cockroaches could survive a nuclear war, so that wouldn't be too effective =P

 

 

 

I guess a particularly nasty virus could lodge itself in the BIOS though, so the analogy works :lol:

it's a small chart with 6 picture links to various security sites. If the site won't come up, even when your internet browser is working fine, or if any of the 6 pictures cannot be seen, then you have the conflicker worm. Gratz :thumbsup:

The creators of viruses do it to boost their ego and affect as many users as possible. But this also cost money. Controlling 90% of the market, Windows is the obvious choice, you're correct. It's also because viruses can't do as significant damage on a Mac. The root files are not present at system idle. This goes a step further to prevent applications, changes, installations, or deletions of significant data, without the user password prompt. Does anyone know if Linux's root files are available at system idle on a user account? Am I right in figuring that since they're both UNIX this is true?

Vista doesn't let you go to the root of things even when not idle, remember, UAC? ( i think anyway)

In most, if not all, Linux distributions, you must enter the root password to access any significant changes.

 

 

 

Viruses that destroy your files are boring. What's more interesting are the trojans that log your keystrokes. You don't need access to a root directory to run a program.
