I don't know the details but somehow you get teleported to an evil tree - you just have to find a world which has an evil tree in ape toll. Don't remember when but I certainly remember reading somewhere about an evil tree, gloves, Ape Atoll and defence pures, so I'll assume it's that. This was similar to the multiple fire capes bug, and it has now been fixed by Jagex so you can now get addy gloves without any kind of glitch.
