Some areas of the forum should require a certain postcount

Featured Replies

Post count is subjective to the individuals looking at it. When someone makes a sarcastic reply, we verify the sarcasm by the post count, and if possible other replies to the reply. When someone makes a new topic that we aren't entirely sure to be interesting or spam, we look at their post count and then form our opinion on the topic in our own discretion. If a 5000 post count user posts a news thread topic, it'll be more accepted by the OT community than say a 30 post count user, whether or not the article is interesting or not.

My point is that our own bias towards post count is enough reason not to have post count restrictions.

OP, you only have 1100 posts, you shouldn't be allowed to post here until you get more posts.

See how it would feel? It's like that for the people with under 100 posts. They shouldn't be excluded from the community because they don't post much.

Post count can never really account for quality.

I'd respect people a lot more if their post was original, thought-provoking, coherent, and substantive rather than a number beneath their name that could include such gems as: "BUMP", "LOL", "+1", "U R A NOOB", and " :D "

That's quite true. I tend to look at the person's reputation more than their post count.

I'd agree. Tip.it would just become an exclusive treehouse for those with high post count.

The only post count req I would support would be 50 posts for off topic. Anything else is fine the way it is.

What would that do? All the garbage comes mostly from people who have 1k+ posts...

Absolutely no on post count requirements. Post count doesn't measure maturity, dedication nor activity. It measures how many times you've posted. Let's keep it that way.
