Is this normal? (school thing)

I am a finnish boy on 7th grade. English has started on 5th grade, not 3 as normal finnish schools. My english has always been a 10. (oh well 1, because I'm going a german school. But it's the same as 10.) Then we got a homework that we had to translate 4 pages to finnish. Alright, fine. There was more to come, 2 pages from workbook. Number 1, make a list of sentences that have 'for' and 'since' in it. Number 2, make a list of sentences with the word 'the' in it. (the text was a dialogue with two boys talking 'The black car we saw yesterday was just awesome!' 'Yes, the car was way cool!') Guess how many sentences were in the text (13), how many of them we're without 'the'? ONE FREAKING SENTENCE!

Number 3, write a story with 20 or more 'the' words. (OH MY GOD!)

Number 4, (was easy) Odd one out (one word was correct, three were false)

Number 5, draw a picture of a face and describe it.

Total time spent doing this one homework : 4 HOURS

Total time usually spent doing all homework : 30 MINUTES

Is this normal?

sounds like your teacher being a nob to me.

have words with staff in higher places. "he's pushing us too hard" etc. Always works if you're fed up with doing homework like that.

I have spent a lot of time on certain assignments, and overall my homework that night took me about 4 hours. Its not normal for it to happen all the time, but once in a while your going to get hard assignments that take a while. So dont go complain to a higher staff member or something, just deal with the fact that sometimes you get tough assignments

Btw, Im assuming that this assignment was due the next day. Is that right?

Nothing abnormal about that at all really. The older you get the more time you should spend on homework. You say you normally only spend half hour on all your homework, thats the fact that seems abnormal to me lol. Its not unusual to spend a good few hours on some quality work

:? If you were in grd 10-11 id say it was normal, but for here, a grd 7 kid should only be doing home work for maybe 45 minutes... you teacher is over working you , talk to the tech about it.

Haha, I spent like maybe 30 minutes in total doing homework (during my education years). I mean it. Didn't end up being a tramp though.

But really, it depends on your motivation. If you spent over 4 hours on it, you were obviously focused on it. The only bad side to it is that even if you spend so much time on it, your teacher might not recognise this and you'll get the same grade as the guy who had his friend do it for him, getting an A (or in finnish a 10). But you'll still benefit, in the way that you'll know later on you're capable of working on stuff like that for a long time.

no reason for a 7th grader to be doing that much homewroking im in 10th grade (i have chemistry, biolofy, calculus, etc) i spend about 2 hours normally on homework. In 7th grade is was like 15-45 minutes. We just had stuff like read, math (fractions, order of operations, and pythagorean therom (we also had to prove the theorem before using it)). Since your finnish i don't know but still 7th grade it shouldnt really be different though the part i could make out in your post though sounded like really simple work (writing sentences, changing them, write a story) although i didn't understand the beginning really. I believe that shouldve taken 30 minutes-hour

It depends on how good you are and how fast you are on doing hw. In 9th grade, i did hw in like 3 hours. 10th grade, 4-9 hours, 11th grade 3-4 hours.

Also depends on the teacher, some give * loads of hw, some give hardly any. You just have to deal with it. I would only complain if projects are due on the same days or something.
