Is there any advantage to using Linux? I don't really know too much about it or which distro is good to start out with. I'm using Windows 7 and I don't have any complaints, but everybody keeps talking about Linux or Unix or whatever. If I do switch, will I be able to keep all of my [cabbage]?

Linux is much more complicated and not usually for casual computer users. You basically have to program in every piece of software you want, and it's tedious. The advantage is that it's very user controlled, so you can basically do whatever you want, and it's completely open source, which you go for if you want to learn coding/like that stuff. You lose access to your files if you install it over your Windows 7, but if you just run it via cd or the like, you can keep your files via weird file paths and stuff.

I tried tried to learn C++ before and I didn't have any problems with it, but I got bored after about a week. I don't really get the appeal of programming/coding. I mean, yeah, you can make your own [cabbage], but most of the time somebody else has already done it. If they haven't, you either need to be really lucky or filthy rich to make any money off of your own [cabbage]

If you back up your files there's no reason you'll lose them.

 

You also don't have to "program in every piece of software you want". Depending on the distro, it will come with certain software installed, and if you want more, you'll have to install it; just like windows.

 

Ubuntu is a pretty good distro. For a non-advanced user, you can probably do almost all of what you'd want, and as an advanced user, you'll be able to configure it to your liking :P

I got a C on a history test today lol. 32/43 I believe. But they kind of secretly boost our grades, we have to take notes on the chapters we cover on the test and we get 30 points for doing notes, so it's really like I got 62/73 which is a B.
