Mount St hellens V3- A realism project.

Recommended Posts

Well, I decided to try something. I first looked for a nice picture of mount saint hellens, to use as a reference.

Opening up terragen, I than proceeded to find a POV close to what it was in the said picture. I than tried to get the surface to match it.

The surface still probaly isn't done... I may have to manip some small trees into the final version, but this is just a sig, to kind of show the progress. Anyways...

Still very obviously computer-generated. Sorry.

You failed to capture the feel of the various cliffs or whatever in the foreground, the material you used there is far too light/brown. Also, the lack of any mist/fog/clouds whatever you want to call that really detracts.

You could've put more effort into post-terregen PS work.

Oh the awsomeness.. :P

That's more realistic than the snapshot Nadril

If you could find a better texture it would make the whole thing even better tough.

Still it's impressive :D

Fog is one thing that when I looked at both of them together I thought "doh!" duh.

I'll darken up the material and I'll try and find those cliffs on the terrain. Terragen has a new 3D preview mode thats nice, but i'm not sure if I will be able to find them, I hope I will.

Thanks for the crit's, Hoping I can get this touched up well when I do a final version.

Not very...realistic is it?

Get some atmousphere in there. At the moment it just looks blantantly digital, and just looks like a mound of snowy grass.

Try harder next time.

Ok yeah.... I think it might be time for me to be looking at a few other programs that can do landscapes untill TG2 comes.

It's rendering capability's arn't as good as other softwares. Hence why I need to sharpen them all the time because they render blurry.

I guess it's just starting to hit that mark that terragen may not be the software for me.

If anyone could recomend a good program (I tried and didn't realy like Vue that much after a bit) than that would be great. Even better, if it can support .BMP Terrains (Basicly a hightmap of a terrain) than that would be perfect, so I can use world machine.

I don't know.. I could have done better. Looking back now I see the faults I made.

-The camera angle is faulty.

- Bad atmosphere, no fog or anything.

- Bad surface.

Terragen I know requires a lot of post processing. So realy, I'm willing to try any software that you guys recomend, better if it has a trial :D

Pretty good replicate, however, how old is that photgraph? Lolz

Since living in Washington, and having seen it quite recently....theres a big bulge of hardened lava in the crater :P

That picture must be a year or two old, if not more

Keep it up Nadril :)

Top looks a bit sharp but its coming along really well. Perhaps photoshop a bit of haze into the picture. Its impossible to see that much all in perfect sharp focus in real life.

Heh, I wasn't aware on how old it was. Was just looking at it for a reference.

Thanks guys. And I was thinking 'bout that merc, it's a bit too sharp. I'll see what I can do about it.
