jjjon123
One reason why RS is so popular is that it is so set apart from all the modern RPG's, everything from its Graphics to skill system is unique and simple. But should that apply to the players controls? Currently, there are only 4 "buttons" used in RS... (not including f1-f12 and esc) Analog Stick 1 (mouse) Analog stick 2 (arrow keys) Button 1 (left click ) Button 2 (right click) Should there be hotkeys to accomodate easier playing and gamepads? I personally would think it awesome to be able to play RS with a gamepad but having to use the "mouse" all the time can get annoying. Here are some example hotkeys... 1. Use Spell (ie. have a spell pre-chosen to cast at the click of a button) 2. Switch weapons (switch between whip and DDp++) 3. Use item (similar to use spell but with items) 4. Activate/deactivate prayer 5. Use Special attack Discuss  1,000 F2P Total Level Reached 10/8/10 ! brunokiller
I'd love having one hotkey that wields my ags, clicks piety and selects special. Don't think it'll ever be a reality though. My blog

Sir_Kurity
Its a lovely thing that may never happened. Its been suggested countless times on the RSOF, i don't think they really care. O.O
Dexek
I'd love having one hotkey that wields my ags, clicks piety and selects special. Don't think it'll ever be a reality though. Ags hotkey = K Piety hotkey= O It would be useful to some people, although it would likely confuse many others. I can imagine a lot of beginner players believing the hotkeys to be the only way to go, and becoming confused, upset, and quitting. Although, those who could master it early on may be at an advantage. I think I'll stick with the current setup, though. : PoetryIndexed Picture 1Indexed Picture 2 Killed my maxed Zerker pure April 2010 Rebooting Runescape
Daedalus127
Well, the control key toggles run, and f1-f11 switch between inventory, prayer selection, etc. So the system we already have is pretty useful. Not to mention minimalistic in design, which I'm partial to.

darksonic45
I REALLY want to be able to move without using the mouse... The hotkeys would be good and make it easier and faster to do a lot.
ladycai
On a few other games I play where hotkeys are used, entering chat is toggle-able. Not on rs. Not possible. Even if it was, I wouldn't use them frequently. 95/99 Summoning95/99 Slayer [hide=This is what you look like when you play RS too long][/hide]

Sir_Kurity
Without auto cast, using magic, eating, then praying ultimate strength just before you switch to a DDS is a pain. Hotkeys would definitely make that easier. O.O
RSBDavid
In alot of games, you just press "enter/return" to bring up chat interface. [software Engineer] - [Ability Bar Suggestion] - [Gaming Enthusiast]
Inuashakent
We already have the F1 F2 keys and quickprayers, and easy access to switching on run, etc. Jagex is trying to make everything easy and simple without ruining what most vet players are used to. Ya, it's almost like they're trying to incorporate "mouse hot keys", if that makes sense. I like it though. Suggest a poll for Tip.it - Here! Sir_Kurity
There would probably be third party programs to let you do it on a normal keyboard. O.O
RSBDavid
There would probably be third party programs to let you do it on a normal keyboard. You can buy a keypad and create/download a quick program to do functions. When I played wow a lot, I had a both wireless and nonwireless numpad and used a certain program to help with casting spells on my level 70 shaman. Sir_Kurity
You can't do that in runescape. Unless you press 7 and it auto presses f7, then goes to the magic spell, then goes back to the inv space in like half a second. O.O
Ravenkana
I would love it, but it would probably be a sharp double edged sword. They already have problems differentiating macroers from people using mousekeys. If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system. Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased. The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

Perhaps they could limit macroing to non-personal gain (movement from town to town, programmable hotkeys, etc) kind of like third-party software? What gain could you get from a script that walks from lumbridge to edgeville? It would teach scripting to people too. I do not condone macroing, but I would rather see the game fixed. Stragomagus
I think that Runescape should have a system in place for hotkeys, but that you should be able to make your own. Here is an example: alias a eat shark alias q wear Scimitar(puts on the first scimitar in your inventory) Being able to assign your own hotkeys has major advantages over just having a select few. Quote - Revenge is such a nasty thing that only breeds more vengeful souls, but in some situations revenge does not even need to be sought out, but only bided. We could use some more that can get a bit more in depth, but I don't see that happening. :(
