I've spent about an hour so far on this (31 layers!), it's nowhere near done but I think I've done at least a little better than last time.

Update: 1h 45mins, 46 layers

The first thing my eyes notice are the over-sized arms. Like people have been telling, keep on working with your anatomy.

I agree with sam completely. Don't wanna discourage you but you have to work on your anatomy. There's no point continuing if you can't get that down. Keep at it, though. I'd really like to see you improve :)

Character design is fun, but it's a whole lot more than just drawing a character right off the bat.

If you want to make a cool character, think about it first. You could start with his story, what does he do, whats his purpose, what kinda world does he live.

What are his basic recognizable features. Even though these will probably be very specific features, there's a whole array of possibilities within those specific features. Like say you want him to have winged boots. You can just draw winged boots right away, or you could go sketch and think how you can draw those shoes in various ways. Again, don't just go with your first instinct, explore. Experiment.

Also, look around you. If you have some very clear idea's on what kinda 'feel' your character should show, go browse around for direct inspiration. Look for little bits, like hey this is a good way to make wings, or hey this little bit of jewelery could form the basis of my armour.

So you got your description of your character, then you could start the sketching. Sketch the guy you described. Again, don't just go with your first thought, but try many different things. Combine the stuff you use as inspiration, don't just redraw it directly, use it as a guide of sorts. Make variations.

Eventually you should end up with something you really like, AND is logical and well thought out. That's good character design.

That's very true. Except I generally don't get that far, so I figure I might as well just draw something I think is cool than spend all the time doing that and never finish it.

Also I drew the cloak rather large on purpose... The sleeves might be a little big though.

[bleep] this.

Hawkxs, we keep on telling you to work on your anatomy. TBH, nothing has changed in the last year. Same old characters, badly drawn and coloured. The only real redeeming feature here is the shading. Right now, I want you to get out of your computer chair and stand like he is. Take into account which muscles are strained, and the possible facial expressions. Highlight on each of that fact.

Even better, use a resource, and draw what you see, not what you think you see. Try Marvel comics, or search DA.

Change your color palate.

I saw your name as the last poster and was expecting a long post of verbal ripping apart of poor hawkxs here.

On topic, I kinda agree with Shiny, sorry, but it has to be said.

Well, I think it looks rather nice. Yes, some parts are out of proportion and some general perspective issues (lightsaber), but I think if you were to do it again, it'd be great.

The shading is looking good too.

Are you using the pen tool or drawing freehand with a Graphics tablet? I just see a few uneven edges that could be fixed (and make progress significantly quicker) if you were to use the pen tool with as little clicks as possible, using the curvuture too full extent.

You may also want to vary the brush size to increase detail on the face and to mark the creases on the clothing.

Also a hint may be to check out some speed paintings on youtube.
