Hello and welcome to my Cockroach Soldier Extermination guide. This is a Free to Play Guide as I am currently Free to Play, but the techniques can be carried across to Pay to Play, Just swap to the best possible armour and weapons available to you :) .

Roach Soldiers are probably the most rewarding and profitable thing to kill in the Free to Play game. Although I havent spent much time comparing, I have been assured that they are a lot more profit and help gain more XP then Lesser Demons and because of their relative closeness to Edgeville Bank and the Grand Exchange, they make life easier.

[hide=Info About Cockroach Soldiers]Info About Cockroach Soldiers

Before attempting to slay any monster in runescape, it is always best to first know what youre up against. This applies to everything, be it as a new player trying to kill a cow, or going on a boss trip as a P2Per.

Youll find pretty much everything in the Tip.it bestiary, but heres two extra bits of info. Maximum Range hit of a Roach Soldier is 10; the Maximum melee hit is 8.

The Roaches only hit with range if you run out of their reach or attack them with range, and also seem to hit more often with range then melee. These do manage to hit a lot whether they melee or range.

I would try and get an average of how much HP you lose per Roach Soldier killed but of course this is entirely down to your defence level and how fast you can kill the roach.

The drops you'll want to look out for are Rune Skimmy's and Square Shields. These are not really Rare drops, but you'll probly only get 1 every two or so trips average. The drops that make the majority of the profit are Law runes drops, Death rune drops and Ore drops.[/hide]

[hide=Before We Start]Before We Start

Planning is crucial to any hunters trip. Once you know what youre going to be killing, you have to decide the best way to kill it. Starting with Attack style (which will therefore affect your inventory and equipment).

Cockroach Soldiers have a high magic defence and while mage does affect them, it means very little profit or even a loss. In my opinion, this is a no go when trying to make a decent profit and get a good amount of XP.

nomagelogo.png

With Range you have the same problem. The cost of replacing arrows will exceed what you make from drops and also as you range from far away, you will get hit more by the Cockroaches range attack, meaning less kills per trip and therefore less XP.

norangelogo.png

This leaves us with Melee combat :D the best choice by far! You can maximise your profit as you only have to pay for food supplies and also maximise the XP gained as you can stay for longer.

meleelogo.png

Here is my typical Inventory and equipment. Its pretty much the best armour I can obtain in Free to Play, then a strength ammy to maximise my hits and green DHide Vambraces to give me that little extra boost of defence. I use tuna as they are cheap so mean more profit per trip but give me enough hp boost each time to stay there long enough. Lobsters are also a good choice, especially if you have relatively high HP, but the prices have been going up and on a bad run (loot worth 20-25k) youll make very little profit.

[hide=Route and Kill Spots]Route

Getting to the Cockroaches: You will start in the Edgeville bank and simply follow the path to the cave, you need to have completed the steps to open the mechanised doors to use this cave, but its a short cut so is well worth doing.

maptoroaches1.png

Once down the cave entrance, youll find yourself in this room with 3 Cockroach Soldiers. You can stay here and kill the Roaches, but this spot often gets crowded because of the convenience of it to Edgeville bank. Youll entre into the room circled in red. Follow the blue line to more Cockroach soldiers if this area is busy.

maptoroaches2.png

Go down the stairs.

maptoroaches5.png

From there, go through this door.

maptoroaches3.png

And then you will be in the maximum Security area. Ive marked out the three best killing spots as there are 3 roaches available so youll never be waiting for a roach to kill.

maptoroaches4.png[/hide]

[hide=Killing]Killing

From here, its pretty simple. Just attack the roaches and eat when ever your HP reaches around 16 (within 2 max hits of dying). For those with 45+ prayer, its a good idea to set quick prayer to protect from melee just in case on your last kill, the roach gets lucky and does a lot of damage. For those who cant use protect from melee, dont attack unless you have atleast one piece of food or your HP is still Pretty full.

[hide=Q&A]Any questions asked in the thread along with their answer will be placed here.[/hide]

I started killing Roaches when I needed cash because I was down to a set of rune and 200k cash. I've logged all of the trips I've made so you can see how profitable, and unprofitable at times, Roaches can be :) one run takes me around 20 minutes.

Nice Guide Needs a lil bit more content tho i personaly used Cockraoches as a source of money when i was FTP and this is a decent guide but i would show several diferent inventory choices and also diferent gear choices for diferent types of players (pures, rangers) also you can range them quite efectivly jsut stand next to them while you do with full green d hide and rune full helm.

At 85 range with mith arrows in f2p, I always beat meleer's to the kill on these. Good guide never the less.

Also, change 'skimmy' to 'scimitar' and anything like it because it looks more professional.

Also, for your gear, change the amulet of strength to amulet of power. Hitting more often is better then hitting 1 damage higher.

You said to use green d'hide vambraces to boost the defence bonus, shouldn't these, therefore, be replaced by rune gauntlets which give a higher defensive bonus?

Good guide though

A couple tips on these...

#1 rune gauntlets from fog their charge doesn't go away so they are great f2p gloves

#2 a cornucopia(sp?) from the thanksgiving event can effectively turn a cake into a lobster so its cheaper and better than tunas. (and using the cake on it doesn't take a combat turn(so I'm told))

#3 I think power amulets +6 to attack style is better than the str amulets

#4 And this place can be a nice fun place for medium levels to lootshare on.

Great guide, but I have a few questions.

How do you enter the Roach chambers? I tried to enter the crevasse, but it wouldn't let me.

Also, what levels is this recommended for?

You need to do the tutorial for player safety before you can go down the crevasse.

To do this, I think you need to enter a basement door just south of the crevasse.

Unfortunately, I can't see the images due to imageshack being down. Can you upload in Tinypic or Photobucket or something else?

Anyways, you should also add at what recommended stats you should have to kill Cockroach Soldiers. Something like 70 Melee stats or something like that.

Fix the spacing on your guide btw.

Hey i've killed a hundred or more of these suckers and your food is somewhat overrated and you need nowheres near that much armor. On my main bonez899 i can kill a good profit solo only using green d'hide as the armor and a rune scimitar while eating only salmon. Now my main only haves all combat stats just over 60 and i think you overrate.

Anyway the most of my comment is to say you dont need tuna or lobsters just use salmon and you can camp there if you want.

i've been training there for the past year or so, and for what its worth, at 115+ combat I've been getting 150k to 400k worth of drops each trip, using full rune, power ammy, and cakes.

if you're higher combat, try to find a world where you know you will out-damage other players, then encourage them to attack your roach.

you'll get faster kills and faster drops (even if you manage to lose a couple kills).

you wouldn't get as much exp, but i assume since youre training on roaches, youre not there for really fast exp anyway.

good guide, but you might want to put tele runes in their as well, they can be useful if you're 1 hit away from dying. And you seem to be having really good luck with you drops, are you a pretty high level (combat 80+)? Wish i was that lucky. Overall good guide.

Hey everyone, This is Girthexx, I have forgotten my pass and my email used for his account though so i won't be able to update this post. Uhmm nice guide to start off with..

Suggestions: 1.Maybe you should show what Different equipments you can bring.

2.You should include needed levels for fighting them(Ex. At least 55 Def is a MUST but 60 is highly recommended AND at least 60 Str is a MUST but 70 is highly recommended) So people know not to go at 40 def, 40 att, and 40 str.

Just work on those for now a 6/10
