This guide is on how to make animated .gifs easily with Camtasia Studio. You can download a trial version here for FREE. You need to have a recording program to do this, like hypercam, or camtasia.

I. Adding a clip to the timeline

 

 

 

Open Camtasia Studio, and click Import Media on the left. Or by clicking File then Import Media. Find where you saved the clip and open it. Drag the clip onto the timeline. A box should appear, choose Custom

 

 

 

 

 

 

II. Shortening a clip

 

 

 

Sometimes your clip will be longer than you want it to be. Just go to where you want it to start on the timeline and press S. Now right click the part you dont want and click delete.

 

 

 

 

 

 

III. Zooming in on a clip

 

 

 

On the left side click Zoom-n-Pan. Scroll down to the bottom and uncheck the box that says Maintain Aspect Ratio (This allows you to adjust the image to the size you want it). When you are finished, scroll up to the top and click Finished.

 

 

 

 

 

 

*Important* If you changed the size of the image, remember the two numbers width and height for later.

 

 

 

IV. Speeding up or slowing a clip down (Optional)

 

 

 

Right click the clip, and click Clip Speed. A box will pop up, you can change it from regular speed to slower or faster. Just change the 100 to 50 (Half speed) or 200 (2x Faster), for example.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Typically you shouldnt add effects to .gifs, its only one clip. It doesnt have to be edited like a serious video.

 

 

 

V. Producing your .gif

 

 

 

On the left side, click Produce Video as. Choose Custom Production settings and click next. It then asks you how you would like to produce your video, at the bottom choose GIF animation file. You can change the frame rate, it makes it higher or lower quality. (15 is low, 30 is high). Next, add the two numbers you needed to remember from step III. For the next two windows, just press next. On the third one, choose where you would like to save it. Allow it to render, and then upload it to any of these sites.
