July 29, 200916 yr Casualgaming.biz has interviewed Jagex about MechScape. It's a fascinating read  You can read the full interview here: http://www.casualgaming.biz/news/28984/INTERVIEW-Jagex There's a lot of VERY interesting info in this interview, such as the following: "Its not about grinding; its about research." "The game universe is very fluid; it changes based on how you react with other players and NPCS" "Just to give you a hint, his game doesnt have XP {Experience points]. It is so different from everything else."
July 29, 200916 yr iiinteresting. I really think it's not long off release now. They're doing more and more interviews and more and more bits of information are being released. Arrrgh I'm so excited!! I think the idea of the game changing based on how you react with other players is fascinating, It's nothing I've seen before that's for sure. I edit for the [Tip.It Times]. I rarely write in [My Blog]. I am an [Ex-Moderator].
July 29, 200916 yr I just want to know how the no exp system will work. Want to be my friend? Look under my name to the left<<< and click the 'Add as friend' button!Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^
July 30, 200916 yr No xp just made my jaw hit the floor. Sounds amazing! I do detest seeing the numbers grow larger and larger between higher levels on MMORPGs. Puts me off slightly. I think my Runescape subscription will be put on hold whilst I delve into whatever they decide to call it.
July 30, 200916 yr I'm just as stunned about the no xp as the rest of you are. Makes me really want to play the game now. I wonder how you progress throughout the game without experience though, I can't figure out how they would implement something like that. It sounds like they know what they're doing so it will probably turn out to be a great game. Pyramid Plunder Guide Tip.it Forum Rules Adventurer's LogThanks to Cowboy14 for the awesome sig!
August 2, 200916 yr This no XP thing is a HUGE piece of news. I like that it will take away a lot of grinding, but how will you unlock "higher-level" content? This will be hard to pull off, but if done right it will be an awesome game
August 2, 200916 yr isn't it EVE online that has a no-exp based system, where it;s based on time played or something? Want to be my friend? Look under my name to the left<<< and click the 'Add as friend' button!Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^
August 3, 200916 yr Now I'm not as excited about MS as I originally was. I'm more worried if I will even like it now. How "casual" of a game are we talking about here? Not having xp sounds good if it takes away the grinding, but the big secret is how do you progress your character. If it's more playing and less grinding, then I'm all for it. If it's invest/research and wait, I might not be interested. I tense up at the mention of different races. One of the best aspects of Runescape is the ability to dabble in everything. If different races means limitations on what each race can wear, do, travel to, etc., then I might have to skip this game. God, I hate all the speculation. They talk about not playing into the whole corporate market model, but holding interviews and saying it's nearly finished, it's great, and we're not telling you anything about it isn't the best method of promoting yourself. If I never played Runescape and happened upon this interview, it wouldn't interest me in the slightest bit to check it out. Ok, you're helping to build a buzz within your own community, but nobody knows what the hell we are buzzing about. Nobody knows anything worth any value about this game. At least let the public in on what we're supposed to be getting into. Is there really nothing to preview other than a random song and a few pieces of concept art? Jagex had a great game in Runescape, and I hope they use their genius talents to make Mechscape good, but they really fail at promoting their products.
August 3, 200916 yr I completely agree with JP on this. I recently tried to explain it too my younger brother but there wasn't really much I could tell him so he is completely not interested. How are they going to get the hype of by their main advertising of word of mouth if the mouths have no words to say. Is this how Jagex wants people to describe their new amazing game? Yeah Mechscape is a sci-fi game with Mechs. There are also Human and the Pliigi which we know nothing about. It won't have xp and is a mmorpg. There is desert and futuristing themes in it too! I think that sums up all that is currently comfirmed.
August 3, 200916 yr No exp could mean that you gain skills and weapons by ingame/dropped currency. Or, as someone already mentioned, it goes by played time. Hopefully not, as I have enough time stealers already. :P You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?
August 3, 200916 yr I don't think it will be based off played time either, because in other interviews jagex stated they wanted it to be a more casual game for older more busy players who don't necessarily have the time to grind. That's what I'm hoping for, and this xp-less based system is even more interesting.
August 4, 200916 yr Hopefully its not a game where you have to buy higher level items/levels by paying more money... Tip.It's Official Undercover Agent
August 4, 200916 yr Hopefully its not a game where you have to buy higher level items/levels by paying more money... Do you mean an Item store, where you buy items for Real life money, if so, i think it's against Jagex's policies to do that, at least it has been in Runescape. Want to be my friend? Do you mean an Item store, where you buy items for Real life money, if so, i think it's against Jagex's policies to do that, at least it has been in Runescape. I certainly hope Mechscape isn't like that, since they were willing to risk Runescape sinking in the ocean to protect this philosophy.
August 4, 200916 yr I agree, but i highly doubt they would do it. Some may think that Jagex have no idea what they are doing when they are making content for Runescape, but they really do have years of experience in creating games and content that appeals to thousands of players. And they also have a habbit of pushing boundries of what is possible, i wouldn't be suprised if this system the are making with no exp is a very unique sysem. Want to be my friend? August 4, 200916 yr No experience. Does this mean everything depends on the equipment? Meaning there should be an infinite amount of items and you can customize them the way you like, made from items you gathered? If that's the case: Awesome. "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do"[Currently playing: K1ll L1f3]
August 5, 200916 yr Not too much speculation there eh :) I really do wish they would give us some info, because the longer we go without knowing anything, the more speculation will grow, and that, without tring to insult Jagex, can only mean at least some people will be dissapointed.
